iPod app perfection
I would buy an iPod again just for this app. I rather play this than the top title games on gaming consoles! I've played this so much and I really want to more updates being brought out, I'm going to donate money to make sure I see some. This game is worth every penny and more. So please buy it...4794saint
Very enjoyable, a great purchase!
I really enjoyed this title. The retro grapichs were a pleasure. The gameplay was smooth, intuitive, and long lasting. I was entertained for a good month and a half by the varied chapters of levels. If a new set of levels becomes available for 2-3$ it would be an instant buy!blakehaven
Great retro platformer
This is the game bionic commando shouldve been and that's not a slight against Bionic Commando. I hope other companies follow suit and release more retro inspired games. In fact I am going to see if this developer has released any more games right this secondKangaRod
Easily the most played app on my iPhone
Title says it all, picked up the lite version and got hooked pretty quick, just as fun and as challenges as an old NES/Snes game and probably just as addictive. If you enjoy the lite, pick up the full version. Well worth it.Mike Kik
Extremely playable
Many things contribute to make a great game such as realistic graphics, emotive music, deep storyline etc. Hook champ has none of those yet still manages to be great game. What is does deliver is a massive dollop of fun and playability.
The concept is so simple, swing through a landscape evading a chasing demon collecting coins to buy upgrades and unlock later levels.
What makes it fun is the responsive control system, coupled with imaginative multi route levels. The difficulty curve is just about perfect with a high replay value to beat the top score for each level.
Sure the graphics are simple and the sound is 8 bit quality, but that just adds to the charm.
My iphone reached capacity ages ago and i delete stuff to make room for new apps and music. I cannot bring myself to delete this game as it is just so much fun and makes the perfect game to fill a spare 20 mins here and there.

Really good game with a few problems...
I got Hook Champ about a week ago and just completed it today, and I must say it's one of the few games that I've spent more than an hour on without getting bored, and it's got a really fun feel to it. The graphics and music don't really stand out, and the dialogue is bewildering, but the important thing is that it is just really fun to play, and lasts pretty long. The reason I don't give it five stars are that it is far too difficult in places. A large part of that is the frame rate dips- there are literally times when I've been playing a level perfectly, when it freezes for a second, and when it begins again, I've fallen into a lava pit and died. Coupled with a really sudden ramp up in difficulty in the last few levels, and it ends up being pretty aggravating towards the end. I often shoot my hook when I wanted to walk, and vice versa, but I'm focusing too much on the bad points...
There are loads of fun items to buy, most of them just upgrades, but this is one of those games which really feels like it's based around manipulating a physics engine rather than the (also good) level design, so even these small changes make a big difference to the game as a whole. The levels are all filled with little interactive items, like frogs jumping around, or stalactites falling on you, which add a nice bit of polish...

Best game on the iPhone easily. Amazingly addictive, great gameplay, regular updates, friendly developers who care.. Don't let the old school 8-bit graphics put you off. Highly recommended.buttercrumpet

All-around excellence
This is an excellent game.
The reasons as to why it's so good have already been addressed by other reviews, but I'd like to point out that buying extra characters, making some parts of the game easier - it doesn't detract from the experience, or make it less fun. All it does is change the gameplay style.
If you don't want to pay the little extra money to buy the extra characters; don't. They're not necessary, all they do is make it more fun for some people that do indeed want to pay the money.
I bought one of the extra characters, Hookbot. It has definitely changed the gameplay, but in no way is it "less fun".Show lessDanielBlaston

I have had my iPod touch for over a year now and have downloaded literally hundreds of apps. I'm the guy that never writes reviews or rates any app. However this is by far the best game I have ever come across on the app store and I feel obliged to tell everyone i can about this gem of an app. I've spent hours playing this game and it's the only app I keep coming back to. If tou try to get all the hats then there's atleast 50 hours of gameplay in or you. It redefines addicting... Should be #1 in the app store over everything. Dowbloa this game now!Show lessAxelgrind
