Listen, I've read the reviews of this game, and I think many people miss the point. This was a Commodore 64 game ported over to the iPhone. A brilliant concept! I did some reading up on the developers of Minimae and these guys are for real. The original is a great game too, as I DLed and played it in my C64 emulator. Look, if you like retro gaming, this is a great 3 hour quest. There is another world, World 2, but I have not played it. I beat the main game and thought it was well done. I give it 4/5 just because there are two options, attack and run. It's a bit of a grind, but definitely worth the 2 bucks.

  • Research this game before you buy

This game's description, while technically acurate, seems a little deceptive to suckers like me who don't do any research beyond what they see in the app store.

I picked up this game when it first came out based on the game's description, hoping that I would get a simple old school Dragon Quest experience with clues to follow and puzzles to solve. I was a bit disappointed when I found out that "hidden secrets" and "side quests" actually meant 48 spots of gold to step on and one underwhelming spoiler bit after the main game. Never did find any of the promised mini games.

If you are thinking of picking it up, look up some more info on it first to make sure it's something you'd enjoy.

  • Just plain fun!

P1xl does a fantastic job with this retro dragon-warrior-esk RPG. The controls couldn't be smoother, the music couldn't be better composed. It just rocks! Smooth autosave makes for veery convient here-and-there playing. Looking forward to more games from this awesome company.
  • A quaint RPG without frills but still has heart

This is a nice little retro RPG which revolves around killing monsters and exploring. If you want glamorous graphics, intricate story, and tons of items, look elsewhere. While not much of a challenge, the fun part is exploring due to the limitations of the game engine itself. This game knows what it is and makes no claims otherwise, indeed at times it is very tongue-in-cheek. There used to be an era of video games when it could elicit smiles and curiosity before maps, plot, and high-end graphics got in the way. This game does a pretty good job of recovering that feeling!

  • Fun retro JRPG-style game .. needs a new name

Seriously, guys change the name--you can't search for this app in the appstore easily. Just call it Minimae without the crazy character at the end. But anyway--this is a fun throwack to the days of the original Dragon Warrior. It covers all the basics--items, turn based combat, lush green tilesets. I dig it! My only complaint is I find the controls a little fiddly. Without the use of a virtual d-pad, I find myself sliding my finger all over the screen and having to constantly re-position it once I hit the edge. I'm not a huge fan of virtual d-pads, but there's gotta be a good compromise somewhere.

  • Minmae

Okay... Here goes this game is CRA! ... It don't even deserve the P. I was fooled by the pictures because it actually looked decent however you'll get so bored and realize you've wasted 3.00. The story is worse. It straight up tells you find 10 rings with no map or direction the combat is a washed up version of pokemon that isn't even close! You just keep pushing attack and there's no spells or weapons. DON'T BUY!!!

  • Really?

Ok, I have not finished the game yet but im on the last ring. Im giving this game 2 stars for the lack of content. Can you at least compete with the origional dragon warrior? No spells or healing items is a drag. The only sence of leveling is finding a ring and purchasing a sword. (Finding a ring gives you 10 hit points, Purchasing a new sword gives you a better chance to hit). When you attack you either hit or get hit, and you only do 1-2 damage througout the entire game. You only take 1 damage. When you get to a cave, there is no need to fear the dungeon ahead because well, you just stay at the entrance, fight a monster with 1 more hit point than the last and get the next ring. The only reason I gave this game 2 stars is because I intentd to complete it. This game should be free.

  • Old-school RPG aficionados should give this a look

Playing this game, you can tell it was made with love. It's quite simple -- in fact, about as simple as an RPG can be -- but I really enjoyed it. It took me back to the days of ultima on the apple IIe. The graphics and music get the feel of those old games just right. Highly recommended for anyone who likes this sort of thing (old-school 8-bit RPGs). My only minor quibble is that the Attack and Run butons are too close together, which occasionally caused me to run accidentally.

  • awesome!

classic gaming and fantastic graphics/chiptunes! plenty of extras to do, however there's basically no replay value at all, the game gets really monotonous after a while. the battle system is a snooze, and you can easily accidentally run away when you touch attack, but meh, gripes i got over. I'm mainly looking forward to whatever comes out as a sequel, hopefully with a multiparty/multienemy system, magic, and more equipment/items. keep the graphics and chiptunes similar though, this is beautiful.

  • Just plain fun!

Brings back memories of the old Com64 days - a lot of fun. Wish that it was longer!
