  • Love Pinochle!

My family loves to play pinochle, and this is a great substitute when we aren't together. I only play the single hand version and the only problem I've encountered is when I try to flush out the last of the trump by leading a low trump, my partner will throw a point on it if the player to my left doesn't have the ace or ten I'm flushing out. This has cost me a few bids. It'd be nice if my partner was smart enough to know there's still some higher trump out there than what I'm leading and lay off. Other than that, I think it's great. I'm getting addicted to the whole passing cards when we play it straight as a family. Only other suggestion is an option to turn off the question about 5 nines. I don't need it asked each time when we never allow it. You play with what you get. Sorry if u have 5 nines but it's part if the game.

  • Vastly improved

The developers have made a number of needed improvements in this version:

-The annoying sound has gone away.
-You now have an option to set how marriages are counted.
-You now have the option to change bidding to increments of 5 over 60.
-While some people have found the two-row display distracting, I actually find it to be an improvement in that cards in the corner of the display could be difficult to tap, so you might, for example, play a 10 when you meant to play an Ace. I think their solution to this problem was quite nifty.

Having played this for a good while now, I have some additional suggestions:
-The little icon indicating the trump suit during play and while passing cards appears right over your cards if you are playing double-deck. This makes it difficult to see and get to one particular card, either to play or pass it. The icon could easily be moved.
-The gameplay AI could use a little fine-tuning. For instance, if I are playing double deck and passing four cards, it is easy to meld a 12 card trump suit. Despite that, your partner (north) will skate an ace, allowing east to get his aces in, while north invariably has his burned.

Still a very good game, and easily the one I play most on the iPhone.

  • Fun but needs work

I love Pinochle, so this game is realistic and fun to play to kill time. However, some improvements are needed:
    * Game keeps locking up or stops displaying what is bid, requiring a reset of the game
    * The switching between 1 and 2 rows of cards displayed is annoying, and can cause you to play the wrong card when it switches between views
    * There should be a 'go back' command to reverse the very last play you made, in case you accidentally select the wrong card on the tiny screen
    * The online games allow you to jump the bid by more than one to let your partner know how much meld you have. This would make the game more realistic
    * Your partner does not play their aces when they get in. This causes you to lose tricks almost every hand, and can cost you the game
    * Your partner doesn't throw counters on plays when a suit is played that you have trumped previously
    * There needs to be a correction between a level 2 and 3 setting for bid aggression - at 2, it is way too conservative, at 3, there is no sanity in bidding
    * The game should remember your selected settings for play - if the game locks up, or you don't play for a while, you have to put all of your favorite settings back in
Still a fun game to play, but could be a lot better of some of the basic things get fixed

  • Finally Pinochle on the iPhone

I've been looking for a Pinochle game for my iPhone since the App Store began. I'm very happy that the developers created this game. I haven't played in many years, but remembered it as a great game, but had forgotten how to play. This game and even the reviews here have brought back some very good memories. I've gotten back up to speed and I really like the game. All the suggestions in the reviews are needed for future updates. For me, the most important are:

    1. Option to not pass the 4 cards
    2. Way too many double pinochles for my opponent
    3. Error in scoring the run with the extra King -- it's counted as a run plus marriage incorrectly
    4. Faster card playing speed
    5. Lay down when you or your opponent have winners for the remainder
    6. Pause option when each player melds to give you more time to see what they have
    7. Ability to increase the bid by more than one at a time
    8. Eliminate the overbidding by the computer players -- they'll bid like 36, but only have 4-6 points in meld
    9. An Undo control -- sometimes I tap the wrong card inadvertently

But if you like Pinochle, definitely buy the game.
