I'm going to have to disagree with pighood completely. To me, the design is simple and accessible--there are three "pages," and for each of them you can change the sound settings. You can switch between the "pages" quickly and easily. You can alter the pitch and distortion in Hz, and each of the buttons below the Hz entry fields further alter the sounds. Multiple buttons can be on at the same time. This allows for nearly infinite customization, i.e. multiple buttons turned on on one page, no buttons turned on on a separate page, and one button turned on on the other page. And, moreover, like I said, you can change the pitch and distortion. It's simple and playable, and what you play is replicable. Whereas Toplap plays itself, I play Grid.

  • Essential

In a music app landscape saturated with emulations and replicas of existing hardware, this app is a refreshing find, one that can only exist in a multitouch interface --a new instrument. Well designed, intuitive interface. Myriad possibilities in sound design when you spend a few minutes to learn how to manipulate each grid mode. And as it is ultra responsive and visual, Grid lends itself well to live performance as an audio source on its own, or to be further processed through your own effects chain.

I use this on an iPhone 3GS. And although it works well on an iPad, hope to see a universal version soon.

  • Doesn't seem to be functioning properly

Please update for iPhone 4 on iOS 4
  • Inventive!

This app creates such an amazing sound, the small tweaks to the frequencies adds the the number of sound generation possibilities for sampling into my daw to create kits and sample loops.
Very nice work, look forward to the future releases.

  • Really fun, just kinda hard to get the hang of

I really like the versatility of the program and I felt like most of the effects I was trying to produce were pretty easy to make. The only thing was that it was hard to get something that didn't sound pretty synthetic, but I've been messing with the app for about an hour now and I've been trying to produce some more organic sounds and I'm kind of getting there. However, once you get the hang of it, this app is an awesome one and produces some awesome sounds. I would recommend this to anyone even remotely into making music!
