Great way to do genealogy.
I Love this app I love doing genealogy in the first place and this has helped me in my pursuit of some of the lines that I had spent years doing. I started doing genealogy in 1972 and for years I worked with just paper then computers came along and I started working on computers to help me and doing my genealogy. Then when this came along all of the work that I had spent years doing was doubled in a matter of weeks this is a great app. But, I no longer recommend getting this app through Apple. Get it directly from Ancestry. Apple screwed me over. I had the app for years. Then I had problems but when I contacted Ancestry they couldn’t help me because I had bought it through Apple. They recommended I contact Apple customer service. I tried and sent a text message to the company. They thanked me for the message but I was required to wait 48 hours. Well I waited and since it became a weekend I waited 96 hours. Nothing happened and no contact. So then I cancelled and they said ok your cancelled but you still have it till almost a month from now. However it doesn’t work. So now I’ve paid for a month of service that I don’t get. And of course no refund. Wow what a crappy way to run a business! Get it direct from Ancestry. That’s all I can say!Show lessTrace Percentages!
Love using the Ancestry DNA App and the membership has been useful as well for my family tree. My suggestion is about including our trace percentages in the updates. I’m hoping Ancestry will consider showing the <1% on our ethnicity reports in the updates in the near future. The reason I say this is because I’ve also tested with 23andMe along with family and we all show regions and ethnicities that are trace percentages that are consistent and we know which side of the family it’s coming from and is fact checked and showing in the family tree as well. Ancestry however doesn’t include on our official reports, but I’ve seen the hacked version of my ancestry results showing my trace amounts and it lines up with the 23andMe. Please consider going back to showing the percentages that are less than 1%. It really helps in family research and I believe we should see all of our percentages, not just the ones you want to show. Let it be up to us, the customer to fact check whether it’s a for sure thing. I think it’s important for us to see each and every percentage!Show lessGood source of information but scummy to boot
I was initially enthralled with looking into my family history and the records provided by ancestry were helpful and not something I could have easy access to otherwise without having to foot over the large amount of monthly cash for it, unfortunately I lost everything except the stuff I entered in and the photos after unsubscribing from the service and I now get annoying popups for having the gall to click on things.
Most of the information seems correct but I end up having to do a lot of weeding out because a lot of it gets attributed to the wrong person. There also isn’t much on certain people despite me being able to find stuff elsewhere, it’s ok if you like death certificates and some censuses and you can also look at what other people have entered in but otherwise it’s pretty useless.
I also find the “cultural” aspects of the site to be the most abhorrent, but of course it has to be “mainstream” because that’s the only way to make money these days. I shouldn’t have to see pieces of my chopped up dead baby on this app and I hope people can see this review and know to stay clear away from this app, there are plenty better services to make family trees on and it is not worth the incessant amounts of money.Show less
