  • Melody feature

I've moved beyond identifying two notes at a time and I'm glad to have the melody feature. I'd like to see an option to have the delete button available the first time. As soon as I know I hit a wrong note, I have to finish out the melody incorrectly, and then after clicking retry I have to delete each note one at a time. That's very cumbersome. Also I was hoping that chord progression recognition would be more involved. This is more about giving suggestions than a review. As an app this will be very useful to anyone who buys it. I'd give it 5 stars if these issues were addressed.

  • Amazing

I have been using this app every day for just about a year now and the results are simply amazing. I went from struggling to recognizing intervals, to being able to hear them and identify them immediately. This app. is probably the best investment I've made. I just wish there was a way I could keep track of my progress and maybe even challenge friends to an interval recognizing match. That would be awesome!

  • Sadists?

I was really excited to download this program and was enjoying the process till it came to trying to hear the difference between a minor, or major 3rd on iPhone speakers. I get the impression that the app designers are enjoying the frustration they are inflicting. Not only do you have to try and hear a half step difference between the intervals 3-4 octaves apart, they seem to make most of the exercises "colored" by making the major chords end on black keys sounding dark, and minor ones sound more major by the notes they chose, and there's no way to get better at it. I breezed thru most of the other exercises, but this one I'm actually getting worse results with every run thru. It's all I can do to not smash my phone. Also, nothing very fun about the app. I thought there would be some game play. Not. Very cut and dry.

  • Worth the price

Many ear training programs are really quite dull or they are too narrow in what is studied. This program is neither dull nor narrow. In fact, it is quite extensive regarding the various aspects of ear training and pitch. I have been using this for about a week and incorporate it into my daily music practice. The only thing I would want is to have a violin sound, although I do quite like the piano. I have not tried out the guitar sound, but I don't think I will be disappointed.

  • Love this app, but I have some suggestions:

Love this app, but I would be so much happier with my purchase if some things were added:

    1) PLEASE make an exercise playing the scales ascending and descending together! Doing them separately is strange because we learn to play them in ascending/descending fashion in piano and it helps to get the full scale all at once. It's much harder to identify the melodic minor without hearing the difference ascending/descending played together.

    2) Please add the natural minor in the major/minor scales exercises, too. It makes for good comparison to hear the natural minor before the harmonic and melodic. Please, please add it!

    3) Please add some exercises on cadences! I like the chord progressions, but I would love exercises to identify actual cadences.

I would love this app even more if these features were added.

  • Great App

I'm in my second third semester as a music major and I have to say, this is a great app for any music major, or anyone looking for ear training. I like that I'm able to switch between different instruments, it makes hearing the notes on the instrument you're use to a bit easier for me.

Anyway, 5 stars, no problems at all, although I would like to see some "test" or "quiz" type of projects on it. So I can get an even better feel of actually being in a class room setting.

  • It works!

Great app! After 2 months of 15 minutes a day, my ears are trained on intervals. I was terrible when I started, but am batting 1.000 now. Now on to chords... I used this app in combination with the app of the same name by Jon Lay. That one is great for practice since you can train on only the intervals giving you trouble and have a button to arpeggiate the harmonic intervals. This one is good for the final exam. I'm very pleased I discovered this app! 5+++++ stars!!!

  • Solid practice tool

I've tried a few ear training apps, of the ones I've tried this one seems pretty solid so far. Good sound, lots of different exercises to choose from, some ones that I haven't seen before. My only slight issue is with the chord progressions, you can only choose two or three chord exercises, I wish I could hear more, like maybe 8 or more in a row. Other than that this a good app, probably comes the closest to replacing Auralia.

  • It's really helping!

I'm getting into music very late in life and I'm amazed at how much and how well I'm learning from Ear Training. I'm not advanced enough yet to be able to offer any constructive criticisms. I just think the software works really well, is extremely easy to use and produces great results. At this time, it's all I could ask for in ear training, and then some, so I give it five stars.

  • Best Non-contextual Ear Trainer?

This program is effective for introducing yourself to ear training. Supplement it with contextual ear training programs and try also to listen to the intervals and chords and their qualities in the music you play on your instrument and you will do well. I've steadily improved my ear using this program and others in the last few months. Def. the best for the price in the app store, though you should try the contextual ear training apps like SolFi Pro or Do Re Me also. The way enharmonic notes are named can be annoying and fail to reflect the way that intervals should be spelled (e.g. D to E# being considered minor third when it should be called a sharp second [D to F is a minor third]) but as long as you aren't misled by this it shouldn't matter. Some of the chords in the lessons on progressions are given the wrong roman numerals, which is a much worse mistake. Overall it's worth your time and money, but nothing replaces listening carefully to your own instrument and singing things for yourself. 4, but not 5, stars because of the naming/spelling mistakes.
