  • the best app

i’ve had this app for years; it’s a great learning and reference app.
  • Calibration doesnt work any more

Used to be really good, but the calibration doesnt work anymore. I have taken my iPad out of its case, tried all the moving it around and still its not working. Needs to be resolved as this use to be a really good app and there’s no way i will upgrade to ad free, if its as bad as this

With newer versions of iOS the Apple calibration screen no longer appears. iOS now relies on device movement for calibration. Check the compass icon at the lower edge of the screen for the reported accuracy. Typically the accuracy will improve to around 10 degrees the more the device is moved. Double check that the location has been detected correctly or set the location manually.
  • Works in your house to?

Doesn’t look like it uses the camera to locate constellations hmm
  • Love it

    Great app. Love it!
  • Wonderful App

I used this so many times driving around the country and being able to find the stars as seasons changed.
Using one night with my grandchildren made them star watchers.
  • Useless, compass does not work

Pointless app when the compass constantly changes and doesn’t know which direction the iPad is pointing. I know the direction of north, south, east and west, unfortunately this app doesn’t.
And yes I have tried taking my iPad out of the case to prevent interference and it makes no difference.

Apple has changed the way the compass is calibrated. The calibration screen is no longer shown. Instead iOS relies on the motion of the iPad for calibration. To help calibrate the compass move the device around in all directions for a few seconds. The app shows the current accuracy reported by iOS at the bottom of the screen. If you continue to see problems please contact support so we can look into it further.
  • Helpful app

Works great. Very easy to use. Very helpful finding things in the night sky.
  • So much potential

I haven’t been able to use the ap for some time as the compass and calibrations just won’t work. I used to love this program. I’ve tried everything to get it to work

The compass calibration has changed with recent iOS versions. Newer versions of iOS use just the movement for calibration. Moving the iPad around in all directions for a few seconds when the app starts helps speed up the calibration process. The compass accuracy reported by iOS is shown along the lower edge of the screen. Check that you are not using a case with hidden magnetic or metallic parts that can interfere with the compass. Please contact support if you still see problems with the compass alignment
  • Does not allow me to choose location, and does not automatically set location. Otherwise interesting.

Does not allow to set location on an ipad3 and does not find location automatically though Wifi and internet working. It shows 90 degrees off in longitude.
Frustrating but nice if it works

Terrible moon seen 90 degrees above horizon, app shows moon below horizon from a San Diego location.!! No way to calibrate! Waste of time

Update Nov 9: Check that the time control has not been activated - check that the current time is shown at the top of the screen. Please contact support so we can help figure out why your location is not being set. The compass calibration has changed with recent iOS versions. Please contact support if you still see problems with the compass alignment Location by Wifi may not always work for all networks. For Wifi location to work it must have been previously mapped and the location passed to Apple. Until your network is mapped you can manually enter your location. When entering longitude check that the correct East/West is selected.
