Entire Hard drive erased!
For a long time, I thought Find my iPhone (and its accompanying Find My Mac) were great. If my phone or computer were ever stolen/lost, voila! I could find them again! Let me preface this by saying my problem is with Find my Mac, NOT Find my iPhone.
So I was on the app, and my Mac wasn’t appearing. I was trying to take precautions and make sure the app worked, so I wanted to remove my Mac from the app and then readd and see if then it would work. And while this is partially my fault, I think it is also the application’s. I selected “Erase my Mac”, thinking this would just remove my Mac from the app. But NO. IT ERASED MY ENTIRE HARD DRIVE because the app thought my Mac had been lost/stolen. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. There was absolutely NO warning that the app was going to do this, no “are you sure you want to perform this procedure”? Which resulted in me having to find a data recovery place (which, by the way, the place the Apple Store referred me to and the only place they work with, Drivesavers, had quotes of $700-$9000 effing dollars! Thanks a lot Apple!) I eventually found a local one that cost me $150, and while I am lucky it only cost that much, this has all been a HUGE headache which could have been avoided by clearer language demonstrated by this app.Show lessGUPrepster411
Life saver
I was at Baskin Robbins and the cashier stole my phone when I set it down on the counter to take my wallet out. I was distracted so I didn't notice I didn't have it until a few minutes later. I asked the servers there if any of them had seen it and they denied it. I went to the Apple Store at the mall and one of the guys working there went back with me while the other one kept playing the alarm on the phone. The cashier panicked and said he "found" it and had to give it back because his supervisor heard the alarm and heard I was looking for my phone. Seriously saved my life. I just wish the gps was more accurate like in addition to the map there was a compass or something that will point you in the right direction because the map could only tell me it was in the mall not how close I was to my phone.Show lessFKMA89
Worked when I really needed it -Happy Ending
One of the 3 iPhone's got stolen on my account and I was able to successfully use this app to lock it up with a message. (Hateful message, don't mess with me type of stuff ) I even bought another iPhone, because I couldn't wait and can't be without ... When they couldn't do anything with the phone cuz I made it useless with this app, about a week later they drop off at some Taco Bell, and the manager called me based on the number I entered using this app. Long story short I returned the new phone (was still within 14 days) and used the original one. Funny part is that when I did get the phone back, the battery was full, so you can tell they really, really tried! Thank you apple.Show lessmaZloPro
Very good if u have a bit of luck.
Last night I lost my iPhone4 on the bus. I realise a secunds later,them I run to loging the app on my laptop and I found it by tracking. I had luck ,the guy didn't sweet off the phone and I could left a message from the app, he could read it on the screen even was locked. Luck me again cos he rang me back in the number I left in the message and he gave me back the mobile. ;)
But I still agree with the people hos saing the app could work even of the mobile off that's could be five stars. :)Show lessrflondon
Very Grateful for App
Lost my iPhone, managed to set up lost mode remotely, so that despite being having a dead battery and the keypad being locked, the very thoughtful person, who proved there still is a lot of good people in the world!, able to phone my friends mobile to report his 8 year old had found the phone, and that I could come over and pick the phone up, very grateful that this app exists, and worked for what I needed it for.Show lessGiggityX
No 5 stars because of 1 tiny fault
I misplaced my iPhone 6plus and on my iPad I tried finding it via maps and it said my phone was 5 mins away from my home !? I knew it was wrong as I've never BEEN where it said my phone is as it's a block of flats and unless somebody's thrown my phone across 1 block of flats , a road, a small park and a huge clump of trees I'm not sure anybody could do that 😑 any who. I then used the sound thing and found it under my bed but a huge fault with Apple they are usually rather good but. Not this time.Show lessBeeboo087
Almost gave it five stars
I misplaced my new 6 plus. Could not find it anywhere so I used the map function which showed it as being just outside my home. I knew this was not possible as I last used it inside the home. So that did not work well.
But the sound feature was excellent and I used it to trace the phone. It was wedged down the back of the couch and I doubt I would have found it at all without this feature.

A Life Saver!
I recently lost my phone while I was at a very busy, public place. I honestly had no clue when it had escaped my possession, so my odds of finding my phone were slim to none. I had deleted the Find My iPhone app on my lost phone so I didn't think to use it. After doing everything in my power to find my phone I decided to try to find it using this app, despite the fact I deleted the app on my phone. Thankfully, I was still able to track my phone, even though I no longer had the app. I have my life on my phone, so you can imagine relief I felt when I found it. Useless
There is no way that other people are going to use this app anymore if they don't have the new iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0. There are still users out there like me who use older iPhone devices with software up-to-date with iOS 7.1, and now when I plug my iPhone into my computer, I get a message saying it needs to be updated. IMPOSSIBLE! And now I can't get it removed from the device because the button says "Update" instead of "Remove."
Please, Apple, the next time you update this app, please me a bit more considerate of your customers. Not everyone can get the latest device and update to the latest software.
For anyone reading these reviews, do not download this app if you don't have iOS 8.0 or later. The best thing to do is to either get the iPhone 6 when you're able to, or wait for the next updates to come on your current device/s.Show lessEllynoreMoonwood
All pro's and no cons
Due to the fact that you can find your phone for any reason is good enough of a reason. For the people who said privacy on not wanting to be tracked, it's as simple as not giving your apple login out or turning off the service in general. Abracadabra fixed your privacy issue....ienvee
