  • It's a full instrument!

For those that complain about the price, just realize that it truly is a full instrument. It's a massive keyboard with the variability of a three hundred dollar piece of tech, and it's a full instrument. Once you get the feel for how it works (there are tutorials online) it's quite easy to experiment with and play. Some fiddling with your device CAN allow music to play while you use Morphwiz (Dream Theater's Instrumental tracks make wonderful playing fields for improvisations), and the recording feature (as well as re-recording) make all your favorite little melodies easy to show off. Awesome app from an awesome artist. 5 stars forever!

  • Amazing inststrument

I'm a musician, kinda, and I love morph wiz. It's a lot of fun and after playing it you get the sense that the iPad has the potential to be a unique and very usable new format for creating music. My only issue with morph wiz, like others have mentioned, is that despite being such a unique instrument, it doesn't quite make the cut for real song making. It's also a wee bit overpriced.

Some feedback: Instruments like thumb jam and even sound Prizm are great for song making. I'd love to see morph wiz put out a second version with some updates. Two of the biggest issues are the lack of usable sound types, and the unfriendly Ui.

Please make morph wiz the instrument it could be. It would be awesome to see it reach it's full potential! Good work on developing such a unique tool, and people seriously buy Morph Wiz it's awesome!

    Thanks!

  • Great expressive instrument

I'm a synth nut, and for me as an ambient electronic music recording artist I find the sounds to be quite nice. Do some sound similar? Yeah, some do, but it's not like you can't adjust and alter them a bit. I rarely use presets in anything without mangling them to my liking. Anyway, I like this. I've skipped MorphWiz many times but now that I finally bought it, I love it. I wish I had sooner, but the bad reviews scared me off. I'm finding this to be a very nice and useful app. It's not for rappers, or hip hop. Maybe that's where the negativity comes from?
At any rate this is great, it's deeper than it looks and fits in great for electronic music types like me. It's not just a novelty.

  • Pure Genius

This music creation application is so brilliant, yet so extremely easy to use, its range of potential users is as vast as its range of musical sounds.

When I purchased and downloaded the app, I had never previously tested it out. However, its creator, Jordan Rudess of the iconic prog metal band Dream Theater, has proven his brilliance time and again over his sprawling career, so I figured the app was most likely worth the price tag (only 10 bucks).

I have had so much fun this app and I've barely scratched the surface. Even my 7-month-old daughter has been experimenting with new sounds--I'm thinking of hooking her up to GarageBand!

MorphWiz definitely lives up to the hype: it's affordable, it's user-friendly, it's groundbreaking.

Music lovers won't be disappointed with this amazing app.

  • Now this is an instrument that uses the expressivity of the iPad

As a professional keyboardist and audio technologist for the last 20+ years, I've always been focused on the expressive capabilities of electronic instruments. Morphwiz is the first app that I've seen for the iPad that really harnesses the capabilities of the medium to allow a user to alter the timbre of the sounds they are playing in real time. The sounds themselves are first rate (though to be fair, I'm a progressive rocker at heart, so Jordan's sounds would naturally appeal to me), and the modulation pad on the upper left part of the screen really distills the most important timbral change parameters for a given sound to a single slider.

Add to that the synthesis and custom programming capabilities, the sequencer, and the trippy graphics in the background, and you have yourself a first-rate app. Very well done, Jordan. If I see you at NAMM, I'll come up and congratulate you on this work in person.

  • It's the spearhead of the wave of the future.

I'm primarily a guitarist, but at times I've wanted a keyboard solo here and there, or textures that have more freedom and malleability than just using pre-sampled loops. MorphWiz is the ticket for this, and more.
I've handed the app to a few 'real' keysmen, and boy oh boy, the possibilities are truly endless here.

In a few years, or sooner, every cutting edge musician is going to have an iPad in their musical arsenal, and MorphWiz is the tip of that particular spear. As you practice, as with any instrument, it sounds better and better. I will most certainly be using it in the studio, and on stage as well.

MorphWiz is true new musical instrument. Much like the Chapman Stick, it isn't quite a keyboard, it isn't quite like playing a guitar. But if you have even a bit of music theory under your belt (the understanding of chord structure, an understanding of the root of the chord) MorphWiz will serve you well.

It isn't a toy, not if you are using it properly. You can change tonal parameters, and monkey with the presets till form follows function.
It's worth every penny, and then some.
Certainly one of, if not 'the best', serious musical apps in the
    store.

If I could give it 10 Stars I would, it's THAT good!

  • Even just for noise, it's a hoot!

I can play this--a bit. Noise: I can do that with no problem. The trick is to make musical noise--that I can do pretty well. This is one monster of a sound maker! I would like a few, minor changes though: 1) Allow a person a way to access patches directly instead of going through one after another until the right one is hit; 2) Hey, how come there's no slider on the IPhone but one on the IPad--real estate issues? ;3) I am afraid of tweaking the presets cause I like them and want to be able to get back to them if I want. Now, if I have misunderstood anything, I apologize. Even with these desires unfulfilled this baby is still a MONSTER!

  • Fun for ALL Ages

Finally, a music app that both I and my 1 year old daughter can use and love equally! That is in no way saying that Morphwiz is not a serious music making and improvising app, but that it is so well designed that even a toddler can use it without tripping over the UI. There are lots of other music apps in the store but Morphwiz has the biggest selection of scales and patches. Also the UI, while maybe not the most polished example I've seen, is very intelligently laid out. Modes like preference settings and patch selection are designed in a way that keeps the user (or my 1 year old daughter) from accidentally invoking them while playing. 5 star rating!

  • Swarm intelligence

So Eric is my big kahuna boss, I work in sales and marketing!! You should hire me to market this great app!! He told me about you and this app so I bought it. I thought I would support your idea!! Lol!!

But I love this app!!! Omg it is so much fun and a great way to relax and forget about a stressful day. I am no musician. Can play a little gutair. What I love about this is that anyone and everyone can play and it is original and sounds terrific. I love my iPad and I adore this app!! Thank you, Jude

  • Beautiful AND Innovative

As a fellow developer I'm amazed at the amount of effort that has gone into the app! Truly a labor of love. Everything from the beautiful sound to the usability is well thought out in a way that makes it easy to use for casual users, while at the same time providing a high degree of control to those who need it via tons of options. And great use of presets, I have yet to go through all of them! WELL DONE!!
