  • Absolutely astounding ...

From one of the best musical minds of all time, Jordan Rudess, comes an astounding application. Not sure there's anything Jordan hasn't thought of for this app. If you're a musician, at any level from tinkerer to touring professional, you really need to buy this. It's an amazing connection between math, music and visual imagery - and, just as you'd expect from Jordan, it rocks. It's the best $10 app I've ever bought in the iTunes store ... strongly, STRONGLY, recommend it.

  • Deep, powerful, and expressive!

At first glance MorphWiz seems like a cool and fun way to make sound, but it is really a very deep and expressive musical instrument. Under the hood is a powerful synthesizer, and on the multitouch surface is a unique and expressive way to control pitch, timbre, and loudness with your fingers. This combination turns an iPad into a truly innovative musical instrument that allows you to quickly make pleasing sound, but like any traditional instrument, it offers the precise control that, with practice, allows you to fully express your musical ideas. MorphWiz makes you want to master its incredible power, and provides a very satisfying musical experience! This app is to me the first truly 5-star app in the music category! Deep, powerful, sounds great, stable, well thought-out. Enough - I have to get back to playing!

  • Bebot, refined

JR has earned instant attention from any iPod or iPhone musician... This app has a lot of the insight into performance I'd expect, taking one of the most interesting existing music apps, bebop, and refining the core idea. The result is a powerful instrument that is fun to play and which has some great new ideas in there. The responsiveness and human feel is awesome, there are several types of simple synthesis to chose from, many different scales, excellent capabilities to save and share presets, etc. The ability to layer and record your performance feels a lot like playing with a good loop pedal. The eye candy provides a little visual feedback but mostly annoyed me, but it can be configured some as well as turned off. Good chorus and delay. Really the only downer to me is the sound itself... It's good, but has lost some of the simplicity that makes bebop sound phat without being quite sophisticated enough to avoid having all of the many presets tend to have a distinctive similarity, a kind of space theremin sound to everything. If this app could break out of that (maybe adsr or filters would help) it would be a timeless addition to the short list of beloved synths musicians just dig. Definitely worth the buy, but keep improving it Jordan, k?

  • They did it again ! Just beautiful !

I went to buy a sound system just for MorphWiz. It is fantastic! Great design, functionality, easy, done by real artists. Sound and graphics: 100 stars! and...at a reasonable price. Thank you. My idea would be to combine it with Hexatone..could they be syncronized in some way? Would like to have options to adjust the tempo without changing the pitch? Anyway: congratulations for this great app.

  • Best sounding, most playable synth app so far!

Very intuitive, great sounds, and low latency. A truly instrumental instrument! I'm going to hook it up to my DAW and record samples with Ableton Live and Logic!

I have bought just about all of the music apps for iPad, and many for the iPhone. And the one thing that I find missing in all of them is the ability to enable an external sync source. Just imagine the potential!! The ability to sync multiple ipads, iPhone, iPods with DAWs and endless softsynths, as well as actual hardware! This could be done easily with the open source DSmidi Wifi server that many control surface apps use such as the AC7-Pro. I would pay double for an app like this with that capability!

  • Most useful and playable synth yet

I love this app. The interface is deceptively simple, but there's a lot under the hood you can adjust, tweak and customize (in real time, while playing!). Then it gets out of the way and lets you just play. The interface allows for very expressive and creative real-time performance. It took me less than an hour to feel completely comfortable with the entire app, and start putting it to interesting use!

The sound shaping options offer a wide range of variety and flavor, and with each new sound I'm inspired to dig deeper. I'm sure the sound shaping tools will expand as the app matures. I've already created a number of custom Presets, and done some cool loops with them using the Record and Looping/Overdubbing feature.

Finally, a lot of apps offer next to nothing for support or learning (it's almost like, "A manual?? What's that!"). The MorphWiz website provides in-depth info, demos, and a complete set of video tutorials explaining each part of the interface. Not only what it does and how, but also how to apply each feature.

MorphWiz is definitely the most playable synth I've tried on the iPad. It'll be a regular 'go to' for me when I'm feeling creative or looking for inspiration.... I'm having a ton of fun with it so far!

  • Best Instrument

This is so far the best musical instrument on the app store. Absolutely amazing how many sounds you can produce with it, and how easy you can change the settings to create your own patches. Morphwiz is a serious piece of software that not only will approach music to non musicians but it also will provide a set of new sounds to professional musicians for live performances or even in their recordings. Jordan and Kevin have done an impressive work here, congratulations! Alright!

  • Just really, really great.

This app is pretty amazing. It uses the iPad extremely well - especially for synth soloing and swelling pads! The most incredible part is the vibrato sensitivity that it maintains while still allowing you to slide between notes! That must have been difficult to develop. Then not only that but you can slide up and down to change the waveform of your sound from square wave to sine wave or anything that you set. The preset sound bank is enormous and runs the gamut of synth sounds, but then each sound is very customizable so that the sonic possibilities are pretty much infinite. This is a serious app, I plan on using it on some of my recordings in the future. I recommend buying it and not just relying on the presets, but also looking through all the menus to change parameters, however you'd also be happy just using the presets. This could easily cost a lot more!

  • Very nice alternative music instrument

MorphWiz rules, it's amazingly expressive and very stable for a first version. The list features is comprehensive, but the interface is so well thought out that it's easy to pick up. I'm looking forward to more synth features since the current possibilities are a bit limited. Knowing Jordan, this is just a start though and in the coming months I'm convinced that MorphWiz will reach even higher sonic capabilities.

The interaction with the visuals is very immersive and I've heard that a next version could allow you to project these through the iPad's VGA adapter. This will create interesting possibilities for on-stage visuals.

  • wizawesome!

i found this app by doing what i do every morning. i check the music category on my ipad for what was released that morning. this morning, i saw an app logo of a male witch/wizard, which instantly attracted my attention, being that i love magic and what-not. next, i checked oyt the description... it seemed like it could be an amazing app, and it came down to one thing for me. does morphwiz support sonoma's audiocopy/audiopaste, which i look for in all music apps. i didn't see it under the description, so i went to the morphwiz website and found jordan rudess's twitter page and asked him through a tweet. he responded yes. then, a few hoyrs later he held a video conferwnce, taking questions and explaining more about morphwiz. once i was assured of audiocopy/audiopaste and that there was a metronome, the rest is history. i just purchased and ran through the app. it is amazing and very much inspiring! my list of what will be my core ipad music production apps is steadily growing. StudioTrack, Reforge, and now MorphWiz. I am waiting on BeatMaker 2 to be released. this app rocks!
