works for me

Chapters is in a three way tie with email and browser for most used app on my iPad. It has an clean, elegant interface, most of the capabilities you'd need, none that you don't and tech support second to none. (before I bought I had a question and emailed the developer - I had an answer within the hour.) I keep three notebooks at present, and one of them is my personal journal which I've kept faithfully for many years. Writing is a significant part of living mindfully for me, and my journals are irreplaceable. I want them close at hand, convenient and easy to use, and easily backed up in case of a software or hardware failure. Since I started keeping my thoughts in digital form about 12 years ago, my program of choice has only changed three times - once while I was using a PC, once when I switched to a Mac and now to Chapters on my iPad.

Perfect

After being let down by the unreliable MacJournal app, I decided to try Chapters and I am very glad I did.

I was looking for somewhere to write a daily brain dump to keep my writing flowing and this is perfect.

It's clear, attractive, reliable, has a word count and can sync with Drop Box. Big thanks to the developers for a great app.

Favorite Writing App so far

I use this app several times a week for 1) journaling; 2) writing chapters of a longer work; and 3) storing ideas, book notes, and other longer notes.

I love it that the notes and writing can be organized into notebooks. Most note/writing apps are lacking in organization. Not this one.

Great for journaling, note taking, everything

I've been using Chapters for all my personal writing, for note taking during class on my ipad, for business meetings... you name it... for almost two months now. It's fabulous. I looked at a lot of apps before settling on this one. What sold me was ease of use and the ability to backup, download and email my work. The format of the notebooks is convenient and uncluttered. I like the new listing of notebooks and ability to order them by the last one accessed, too. It really helps keep things organized. The developer keeps improving it.

This app would be a steal at triple the price. If you're looking to journal, take notes, document anything important to you, quit looking in the app store and just get this. It's a winner!

Excellent app!

Does just what it says and is very easy to use.

The support from the author is exceptional and responsive.

Dropbox support for backups works well and it's very reassuring to know that you can backup without connecting to iTunes.

Well done

Excellent idea, excellent app . Multiple journals makes my life much easier. I wanted a work journal, diary, and place to organize something I am writing and ability to back it up easily and restore it if the worse happens.

I wrote the app developer who emailed me back quickly with how the backup works in conjunction with dropbox and it's own backup system which after I read his reply made a lot of sense. This developer thought carefully about developing this app and I am happy with it.

The Perfect App for Writers

It wasn't easy to find an app suited for writers, but in Chapters I found the perfect tool.

The ability to create different independent journals (an advance over their other app - Chronicle) turned Chapter into a great app to maintain different ideas for books/tales projects and to actually write them - and it helps that it is possible to find written texts by date, title and "lead" just by looking to the left side of the application.

It is official: I am switching from Pages to Chapters after using Evernote, SketchNotes, Droptext and even the native Mail for iPad.

Along with Chapters I use Ideawell, iThoughtsHD and Things to organize priorities, concepts and tasks. Together those four apps work as a well oiled machine (even with no integration) to writers.

To get even better, Chapters would have to get a MacOS (and PC) client version, to syncronize with its iPad version using WiFi.

Great app for managing multiple projects

Great app! It is also getting better with every revision.
I use it to manage multiple projects. Time stamps, indent, bullets and other features make note taking much easier.
The archive feature eliminate the fear of losing a notebook when hitting the trash icon by mistake.
Please consider adding a one-button-archive-for-all-notebooks feature. This will make the archiving process even more painless. It will also be great to include the shapes (e.g. to do flow charts)capability as found in iWorks.

Good, but I need one thing to make this really usable for me

If I am going to seriously journal using this app, i have to have better quality images. The App seems to do a serious compression when I import pics, but I'd like to retain the original resolution.

I want to be able to export my journal (which it has!) and save it as a long term document for my children when they grow up. But I need my pics to be sharp and hi-rez. Please add for 5 stars.

Thanks!

Best app for journaling and note taking

Chapters is the best app I have seen for taking notes and creating journals. It is extremely intuitive and gives you the ability to add small pictures to show what you are talking about. The extended keyboard is fabulous. It allows you to add bulleted notes and, finally, an application with a TAB key!!! If you do any kind of writing, this is the app for you.
