  • Glitchy AF

Excellent app - when it works properly. Up until a couple of weeks ago it was fine, then it started crashing on me, giving me unexpected error messages, and forcing me to login again. It got to the point that I had to uninstall and reinstall the app before every run because of the issues, and has now reached the stage where it is now not even letting me log in again.

Like I say - excellent app when it works, but completely giving out on you 3 weeks before your first ever half marathon isn’t the time you want issues accessing your training plan

  • Long term user

Started using Nike plus in 2007 and made the switch to the app a few years ago now. Have enjoyed most of the new developments like mapping the run, being able to post to social media and adding photos. A few things I think will help; 1 Nike Fuel; what is the point? I rely on other apps (such as running heroes) for rewards but think Nike should have done something by now. 2) live tracking; on long runs would be cool for followers to track progress real time. 3) syncing can take a while, especially from Apple Watch and doesn't seem to happen automatically (you have to open the app. Will be interesting to see what things come in the future and still my go to app for tracking (too much history, so that keeps me loyal).

Update Jan 24 well here I am 17 years of using Nike to track my runs. I see from my past review that Nike fuel has been binned and still no live tracking which Garmin does. No problems syncing anymore but I use Garmin and feed it through to the Nike app as prefer Garmin watches over Apple and the Nike app. Need a new level after volt as have been volt for years. Would also like some validation of results for challenges as some people’s miles are just ridiculous and it makes it a pointless exercise using it as a motivation too. I will stay with Nike probably forever as it has all my history. So many apps doing Rewards and I think something could be done in this area. And I want an avatar, that would be cool.

  • LOVE THIS APP… but the UI not so good

This app is amazing. I get bored most of the times while I’m trying longer runs and Coach Bennett’s cheesy jokes have managed to get me past the 8 mile mark which is pretty crazy considering 3mi was a STRUGGLE before starting NRC. However the UI itself is a little questionable. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled this app a couple times and it doesn’t mark properly runs I’ve done before and there’s no good filter system for looking through the huge catalog of runs they have available, you literally just have to scroll A-Z through every single run. Also as somebody who lives in a colder area I force myself outside for long runs and do speed runs on the treadmill, and I’ll often forget to mark a run as indoors until it’s too late and you can’t change it while in the middle of running (maybe NRC could just make a warning or something saying hey, you don’t look like you’re moving on the GPS). The Apple Watch integration is a little finicky also, maybe 40% of the time it doesn’t show stats on the watch and I wish the indoor running would let me put my phone down and just use the watch’s sensors for tracking the distance. Also I’ve used this app a lot and I’ve started to notice a lot of the messaging gets super repetitive, like I swear they use the same script for multiple runs which is a little annoying.

  • Buggy once again.

Rely on this app so much but so frustrated that it doesn’t sync with my Apple NRC watch and have to keep manually adding runs using the data from my watch. Think it’s because it keeps logging me out of NRC on my phone. And even opening the NRC app on my phone is buggy - a minimum of 3 tries before it comes up with not a blank screen, a screen with just the logo, nor a screen where the login button can’t be pushed. Please fix!

  • Mostly pretty good

I’ve been using it for 12 years now and it’s not a bad app, but could be much better. The training system they had 10 years ago was much better, not sure why they got rid of it. When I switch apps (ie change music or podcast), it’s buggy (black screen forcing me to shut down app and restart, or the screen doesn’t align properly), the help is basically non existent, it spams the inbox every week with something useless, and the distance calculates differently to other apps (I’m either consistently shortchanged in NRC or getting freebies in strava).

Also not sure if there’s a way to export. This is a massive killer for someone who wants to trial the app. Just don’t bother unless you’re happy to lose your data

  • Data silo

I was happy using Apple’s own watch app to record runs. However, I broke my watch and in the meantime trying different apps to record runs on my phone. The Nike Run Club app is very good in terms of doing one thing simply, it has a good interface and the guided runs and training plans are very good. Like having a bunch of coaches in your pocket. But it locks your data in and doesn’t play nicely with other apps, not even Apple’s own Health or Fitness apps. For example, I beat my 5k PB recently, but you wouldn’t know from looking at the Apple Fitness app or Strava. Another example, the NRC app will record a GPS map during the run, but that won’t export to Apple’s apps or other services like Strava. Even third party solutions struggle to get much of your data out. It’s my data and if I can’t get it all and do what I want with it, then I can’t recommend Nike Run Club. I won’t be using it until Nike changes that and if you care about your data, you won’t either.

    Update:
So Nike recently made it so data would port to Strava, which is great and a step in the right direction. But still so little data is recorded in the Apple Fitness app. No GPS map, no elevation, etc just pace and distance. So it’s still a data silo really ☹️

  • Great features small issue

I have had this app for 3 years but I’ve only started using it the past 4 months consistently. I’m these 4 months I’ve accumulated around 50 miles ran and I have become addicted to running making it even hard for me to not go on a run on rest days. I would like to point out the “run levels” because they are an awesome way to compete, track your progress, stay motivated, and to want more everyday. When you want to go on a run you can set a speed goal, a distance goal, or a timer for how long you will run. This helps for various reasons with different types of runs. The one issue I have been having with this app is that it doesn’t track my speed/distance/location as accurately as it should. I’ve noticed that sometimes when I try faster paces and take the same route I usually do I find myself running farther than I should (passing the one mile point and still having .05 miles left on the app). Also It’s the same with speed. When I try faster paces I burn my energy just to find my pace was the same as previous slower runs with the same distance even though I felt faster and more exhausted. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

  • Great, could be awesome

Don’t get me wrong! I love using this app so much! It makes tracking my runs so much easier, and is super convenient to use. However, there are some things I think could make the app even better. One of them is the tracking. I love that when I’m looking back on my past runs I can see where I’ve run before, but I think it would also be helpful to be able to plan routes as well. Since it already has the gps, you could just draw out a route following the streets, or you could type in however many miles you want to run, and it could find possible routes or trails near you to try. I personally think that this could make this app even better and more convenient than it already is. I also think it would be fun to “remix a run,” if you were to redo a run you’ve already done, and it could guide you to take the same route, and then you could try to beat your past time or something like that. It would also be nice to have almost a shopping tab where it would be personalized to your runs and the activity you’ve done, and it could have recommendations for different shoes or Nike clothes that would be best for you depending on where, and how much effort you do when you run. None of these are fixes to problems or anything, but rather just things that would make your app even better. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and have a nice day!!!

  • OK app but notifications are obnoxious

Decent app. Has 3 classifications of notifications: run reminders, friend run reminders, and shoe notifications. I’ve disabled all but the latter, and still receive Inbox notifications unrelated to my shoes. Had to disable notifications at the phone settings level.
  • Leave it to Nike

I’d say nike running app has become the most consistent and trustworthy running app I’ve used for years. It’s probably changed my life and attitude towards running. I was hesitant initially to try the guided audio runs bc some of the talking and coaching would overlap my music but I’ll alternate between that and my normal non-guided runs. I’d also have to say I have used NRC even more when I became pregnant as I used the pregnancy running guides too, and now I’m so glad they have the walking series too. I used to be so fixated on numbers and stuff but I’ve learned throughout the years they are not as important to me as much as feeling good and being consistent, and after a few guided runs I’m actually looking forward to them and I’ve felt more motivated than anything else. The tips on breathing really help too. Please add some stroller jogs if possible for parents, and one major update needs to happen: when a coach is talking you through the stretches and you have to pause sometimes, the run itself pauses which is annoying and so the audio instructions stop. Please fix this! Aside from that, this app is one of my highly used apps and for good reason.
