  • Steady decline from 5 star app to 1 star app

I've been using NRC for over 3 years, and have recorded ~500km with it, and today is the last time I will be using it, and here's why:

*Steadily declining use experience.* I'm sure most runners use this app similar to the way I do: Apple Watch app for recording runs, and the iOS app for tracking data. While it has seen zero improvements since I've used it, the iOS app has been fine. However, the Apple Watch app has been bad.

    - The settings make no sense: "Celebrations", "Cheers", and "Voiceover". I turned celebrations and cheers off, because I don't want the neighbour hood hearing my pep talk. When voiceover is toggled, the frequency option toggles, so you would assume this is the distance read out right? Nope. No idea what it is, but cheers does it. My per/km readouts stopped for a few months, and it ended up being this.

    - Downloading runs isn't usable. I want to run with my headphones paired to the watch, and to support this, Nike allows you your guided runs. So yoiu set out to do your run but guess what... The _list_ of downloaded runs requires the internet. So I hgave runs saved on my watch, but unless I keep my watch open all the way the run, I can't actually start it. Would have been forgivable if it hadn't been 3+ years with no fix.

*Unkept promises.* All the hype in the app and the promised features mean nothing:

    - Where are the Nike experiences? It's been years and nothing

    - I've never been to store on the east or west coast that accepts the Nike pass or does anything with it

    - Anyone else complete the member days challenge? Your reward will be sent each May huh? Maybe my reward is the truth

*Inaccurate data.* The above would be forgivable, but for me this is the last straw:

    - Distance based runs don't work. e.g. If I set a 5km run, at 4.1km it tells my I'm halfway... And that it's 8.2km. I thought I did something wrong, but this has happened multiple times starting about 3 months ago, and now I've just given up on the feature

    - Distances are tracked wrong! What?! The app has one job... I've just completed my second run where I would have done a sub 5min/km pace, and it tells me I'm at 8min/km. At first I chalked this up to GPS drift, but when I look at the map, on the way back, on exactly the same route, one "kilometer" is almost twice as long as the next. How? I mean the route is right there on the map, you have the distance data clearly. Why isn;t the geting recorded properly? This is messing al my other stats in Apple health too, like VO2max. That one is the last straw.

    - While I'm at it: Apple Fitness records more detailed that NRC

I had so much hope for this app; and I actually went out and supported Nike buying stuff despite the douchey customer service, because I want them to maintain tools like this; it's such a good idea. But it's clearly been neglected, and I realized I've continued using due to lock in and not wanting to lose my data. Waste of potential utility for us runners, and waste of potential customer base for Nike.

  • I love the guided runs!

This app is so good! I have always liked the idea of running and being a “runner” but never stuck to it consistently. This app has completely changed that! I have now started training for my first ever half marathon and I would have never considered a 10km run an “easy” run 5 months ago. The coaches are great and have kept me focused and on track.

  • Get running consistently

A great app with almost every feature you’d want. The standout though are the guided coaching runs, they’re a great way to get you running consistently.

    How to improve?
Provide easy access to downloaded guided runs on Apple Watch. If you’ve downloaded runs to the watch, but they’re not on the ‘main menu’, you can’t access them when disconnected from your phone.

  • Amazing app, some suggestions

I suggest that we should be able to cycle through the run colors that we have already unlocked. Leveling up through the colors is awesome, but once you are stuck at a certain one, you want to go back and experience some of the other colors again and that is not possible. I am suggesting that you should be able to pick your run color whenever you want, if you have already unlocked that one. Sometimes when I go for a run, my screen goes dark and I can’t access my run, and the only way to stop my run is to remember where the buttons are, this is a good bug to be fixed in this app. Another bug to be fixed is sometimes when I run on the treadmill, and input my run, it doubles that runs mileage on the leaderboards. On your stats you have the correct mileage, but your friends see that you ahead of what you currently are for the week, month, and year. A final suggestion would be able to see your friends full stats… all time mileage, etc. those graphs that we seen on our screen should be accessible to friends if allowed in settings. I hope someone reads this and continues to suggest these things, or someone from Nike reads this and takes my suggestions into account somehow. This is an amazing app, thanks!

  • Tried others but not as good as this!

In the past, I’ve looked at other apps and nothing compares to. This is not only gives you runtimes gives you goals to set and goals to get to has great coaching. If you want someone to talk to you while you run and then you can also play music or you can do. Nothing allows you to set your own pace, set your own goal for the for the run. I think it was a great app. The only thing I could say is that it no longer tells you every half kilometre and I miss that I like to know when I’m halfway through a kilometre and then 1 1/2 km and so on it tells you went to turn although on the third run it doesn’t so be careful of that when he goes 12 1/2, almost that’s when you turn anyway that’s my review. Have a great day

  • NRC really helps

I used to be a runner back in my high school days and don’t we all wish we could be back to those speeds lol. Anyways I was told by my doctor that I was getting up there in weight (‘6”6” 260 lbs). Granted that’s not heavy but I have a small / medium bone structure and my BMI hit over 30. I thought I was doing pretty well and carried the weight well…I stated this to my wife and she tried to kindly disagree. She didn’t call me fat but said I didn’t carry it as well as I thought…that stung. With my schedule I knew working out hours a day was not how I am wired so I went back to running. I was running about 3 times a week in May but hurt my meniscus and was out 6-8 weeks.

Anyways I recover and really try hard starting August 1 and has this app been one heck of a helper/motivator. I have watched my average mile drop almost 3 minutes!! I can check all my routes from all my runs. I love the challenges that I can do and see how I compare to everyone else. I know it’s my journey but I’m competitive lol. This app has been a great tool and helped me in my journey. I even got my wife to join!!

I’m sure there’s things that can be improved but right now I’m very happy with this app and recommend it!!

  • Great for all fitness levels

I love this app. I have been using this app for about 7 years now and it is great. I love the guided runs that are on here and the way the coaches make you feel like they are right there with you every step of the way. This app is great for anyone who wants to just get out there and run no matter what fitness level you are. I have only just got back into running after recovering from a couple of injuries 12 months ago and it is great that you can re-do the runs you have already done so that you can restart when you get back into it. Love this app. Just wish there was a setting to turn the music off while the coaches are talking so that you can hear them better. Other than that it is great. Love it.

  • Great potential, but held back by bugs and poor audio guides

I’ve been using this app before it was called Nike Run Club. I love it and it’s part of my daily routine. That being said there are some serious problems with the app that have sprung up. The Facebook cheers feature which many people have actively reported as not working still hasn’t been fixed after years of not working. But that’s not my major problem with the app. The guided runs usually involve this guy called “Nike Global Head Coach Bennet.” I don’t think Nike could have picked a worse person for this job. His voice sounds like a high schooler trying his best to sound like a cool adult, and he is constantly speaking in this strange cadence and trying to deepen his voice to sound more inspirational. He says the most scripted, cheesy, lame uninspiring things completely taking me out of the zone. All this “you’re awesome, you’re already so great, and you’re getting better with every step you take” gets old really fast and is no way to motivate you to get better. If I’m already awesome why am I running? Please Nike, get us a mature, intelligent and charismatic guide to get us through our runs. Something actually inspiring and epic, not this drab, monotone mess. (Sorry Bennet.) You know who was awesome? Eliud. That voice and run was amazing, UNTIL coach Bennet had to come in and say something pointless. Ugh I’m done.

  • Changed my life

This app is not the first running app I have used but for me it is the best one! It has changed my life because it continues to motivate me to get out and run with its weekly and monthly challenges for a start. The stats are great too for seeing how I have progressed since I started using it. The guided runs have also contributed to my progress. I have really only used the guided speed runs but what a difference they have made! I thought I only had one speed but turns out I can vary my speed and it’s been fun. At the end of the run I love the little motivational comments, even though I’ve heard them all, I still enjoy hearing them. Then through this app I have benefited from a session with a nutritionist and a special women only run in Melbourne. Amazing experiences and opportunities to meet like minded people who love to run! Thank you Nike and all the coaches - I just love this app! Now I’m going to try NTC as well…

  • Fantastic Coaching

I’m really impressed with the coaching available as part of the app. I picked up running recently and had started tracking runs in Strava. I decided to check out NRC because a friend of mine is using it and referenced it. I’m sure glad that I did! Previously I would just go out and run hard. But it’s hard to motivate for that kind of pain. I decided to try NRC’s 10k program to give me something to work toward. It has me doing speed runs, recovery runs, longer distances, etc. As a new runner, it has made running accessible and even kinda fun.
My problem is with the app itself. My 10k program from Nike is a PDF and it says which “Guided Run” I should do in the app. It begs the question why isn’t the program itself in the app? Failing that I should at least be able to search the guided runs for the name provided. But, no. So that’s why 4/5 ⭐️.
It seems like they could do so much more with this app too. The coach doesn’t know my pace so can only say the level of effort I should put in. But the app does! It doesn’t seem like it would have to be very sophisticated AI to customize the training plan to me. Age should be considered too. As a 50-something I’m just not going to build strength and stamina at the same rate as a younger runner.
In short, I’m happy. I’m glad I’m using the app. You should definitely download it and give it a try. AND there is still a lot of opportunity for it to grow and improve.
