Buy the hard copy instead

While the workbook is a nice compliment to the handbook, the app is not worth the price. The reason is that, despite its chapter headings, it is no more interactive than a PDF. The quizzes will ask you to write in the answer, or select the correct answer, but I can't find any way to do that in the app. You can highlight, and it has an erase function, but the keyboard simply doesn't let you type anything in the workbook. Better by far to purchase the hard copy you can write in.
As a update, the author replied to my queries that I should be able to print out the book, but there is no option available in the app to do that.

Needs a lot of work!

This workbook is essentially a digital version of the paper workbook. I really like Machado’s Private Pilot HANDBOOK; it is an informative and enjoyable introductory treatise to aviation. I was hoping this WORKBOOK companion would have some interactive features rather than being just a digital book. I was disappointed. Each page is presented like the paper version, with many questions per page. The answer key is at the very end. So you have to write down your answers on a piece of paper and compare them to the answer key. This is cumbersome and annoying.

What this app could be is an interactive test: in each chapter, present each question one by one, and allow the reader to input an answer into the app (instead of having to write it down on a piece of paper, ugh). The app could tell you immediately if you got the answer right before moving on to the next question, and give you a score at the end for an overall look at how you did. It would be super easy to develop an app like this, it involves taking the existing information in the book and changing the format to be more interactive. Any app developer could do this at minimal cost. Hopefully this app will one day be updated to get with the times; aviation is very much an iPad community, and you either adapt or get left in the dust...
