18 years old warning!!!

Anyone young barely about to open an account here please read this. (I am 18 years old).

I have barley opened and account with this company. It’s been I think 1 week and a half. The first 3 days their servers were down and no one would pick up the phone (First issue). Then after finally getting the chance to look at my account my password wouldn’t work (second issue). After a week I went shopping with my family. It was going great and what I had “available” isn’t actually what is available. So if you have something pending stop shopping until it goes through. And anything you have “available” is most likely not what you have available. The app doesn’t truly show you the details in real time.

The service is bad, servers constantly give issues, the app is terrible cause it’ll make you go into debt like it did to me cause my available money isn’t actually what is available.

So if you are young like me (18 years old.) and it’s your first time opening an account. Beware of how trash this bank is in every way.

I will be changing soon after paying my debts to another bank. So little amount of time with this bank and already giving me issues. Ridiculous and one more thing. You make a purchase and it won’t show up or go through until 3 or 5 days later.

So be careful for the ones who are new like me. Even my family and friends have had issues. Don’t use this bank for anything.

User friendly

I have accounts at two local credit unions and use the mobile app for both. GECU is far more user friendly. I love the more discrete swipe down quick view and the easier transfer and bill pay features.

Customer service issue

Your customer service is terrible. My wife spoke to someone about the skip a pymt offer and they told her that her next payment wasn’t due until January so there was no need to apply to skip. They also told her that my request to skip a pymt was approved. To our surprise, both of our car pymts were withdrawn for December. We had problems with your bank last year and moved our auto deposits for our paychecks to Bank of America. This is the last time we finance with your bank. You have really gone downhill the last few years. It is very frustrating. My in-laws said the same so I know it’s not just us. I make it a point to tell friends and family how dissatisfied we are with your credit union.

Zelle doesn’t work

This has frustrated me to no end that I am unable to get Zelle to work on this app. For years since having the app I have never been able to use the Zelle feature which apparently only works on the app. All the other features work fine but not being able to use Zelle is frustrating

GECU is the greatest place to do business with due to the staff, they are professionals and knowledgeable experts in all of what they do and is expected from the customer. Always polite, interested in the customer’s situation and taking care of us. I’ve been a member over 35 years and it just keeps getting better. I will never do business elsewhere. Thank you..

Balance always changes

My total end balance constantly changes. I will literally take screenshots of it and then in the next hour it’s a different amount even though the charges are exactly the same. Then you have the audacity to charge overdraft fees. Everyone that I know that has GECU has the exact same issue and complaint. 😡

Dark Mode

The app is great, it never stutters or anything but cmon guys it’s been what 4 years since dark mode came out on IOS and you guys still haven’t updated that, sometimes I’m driving at night or just in a dark environment and it’s really annoying having all the light of my phone blast my face because there isn’t a dark mode, that’s the only reason I’m giving it 4 stars. Please guys update the app im sure a lot of people will appreciate a dark mode option.

Fees Fees and loooong posted charges

Not only every purchase l make gets posted to my account, but it lasts 3-5 days to actually charge which l hate, and l love opening my app to seeing how it charges double for some transactions. I also hate paying $30 on $30 on $30 for fees that Chime or other banks would NEVER charge that lousy crap. Not only they use our money to make money buy charge us for sparing us a few extra bucks. If customer service doesn’t dispute the double charging or refund the money that im negative because of the double posted charger im closing this bank account and choosing to stick to any other bank

Holding my paycheck

I have been with Gecu more than 10 year and suddenly you start holding 30 dollars of my pay check but now you are holding half of my check, why?? I have been depositing checks from the same company since day one.
I will change banks, I don’t recommend Gecu anymore
