Quit changing things that we like
As a host of five years, I have seen so many changes come over the app. Some are good, but sometimes I feel like the changes are made without the host host in mind. We won’t even talk about the policies put in place because that is more of a company issue and not one with the app. The app can be very useful to track vacations as a traveler and listings as a host. I like that it’s also compatible with Siri now and Siri can tell me all about my trip. Being able to search for homes is a breeze. This is one of the nicer platforms for sharing your home. A couple of changes recently made to the app do not help me as a hostess or a traveler. As a traveler, I like to see the nightly breakdown as well as the cleaning fee, separated out. I can only do this on the full site. Otherwise the cleaning fee is lumped into the price. One big change for hosting is how much stays have increased in my area. It used to be on the dashboard or the insights where I could see how much stays have increased in my area by percentage. When I call support for them to help me with using that feature, they make it sound like it still exists. They walk me through some steps only to get to a dead end. That feature has been removed. It would be great if support was able to understand my concerns better as well. I can explain things over and over and they still don’t get it. Overall it functions well for the necessities.Show lessProfits Over Truth
Recently stayed with a host that was very clearly defrauding us. They staged “damage” that occurred from our stay but had faked the damage themselves after we had left. A deep dive into the host’s reviews ended up revealing a pattern of similar behaviour and other scams. After trying to claim over $800 in damages for a window blind that had been taken off the track, we tried to resolve the issue with Airbnb, showing that we had made the host aware of issues that we did find present (there was a tear in the couch and the dryer wasn’t functioning) but this damage was not us. We also showed them the multiple other instances of shady business the host had done. Airbnb originally claimed that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to find us responsible but they were going to reimburse the host themselves and close the matter. Fast forward a few days later and now Airbnb is claiming we are fully responsible and need to reimburse them for the money they sent the host. The lack of consistency and what honestly just seems like trying to make back their money in spite of lack of clear evidence shows they can be just as shady as the hosts they collect their fees from. Airbnb had become a platform where this stuff is permitted as long as they get their cut, and the customer is left to pick up the bill. I unfortunately can’t trust their service team to have my back, so I won’t be using their services again.Show lessAvoid using Airbnb
I have been a user of Airbnb for almost a decade and have had mostly good luck with the platform. That is until my most recent stay. It will ultimately be the reason I never use Airbnb ever again. We stayed in a beautiful house in Antwerpen Belgium, however, upon noticing the reviews where the host was participating in fraud like behaviors i.e claiming guests have broken things and charging excessive fees for it I did the right thing and did a thorough walk through to alert the host upon check out of the condition of the property and even noted some regular maintenance items that needed to be taken care of. For example the dryer needed to have its ducts clean for better circulation. Well you try to be honest and that doesn’t get you very far. The host immediately charged us $325 for a blind she had very clearly just removed from the track and said it was broken. When I got Airbnb involved and pointed out the pattern of behavior from this host. Which also demanded an off Airbnb $500 security deposit before handing us the key and when we argued she refused to give us the key until we paid despite the stay being paid for. They failed to protect a loyal customer. And is not trying to get us to pay $250 for damages we did not do. Unfortunately this company is supporting a host that’s defrauding them and customers. 0/5 stars.Show less
