  • Do not like latest updates

City Mapper is my main way of getting around New York and it’s the first thing I suggest newcomers download to navigate the transit system, but the newest updates are not good. You used to be able to access the bus routes in real time from within your trip, but now you have to exit all the way out and find them in a roundabout way. The navigation often glitches and won’t let you go forward to back to the next or previous steps once you’re in a trip. It gets stuck and then the app shuts down. The older version never had these issues and they’re such an important part of use for every trip!

  • Complete waste of four pounds!

I have used this app for years for public transport and walking routes in London and abroad, and recommend it to everyone. I recently started cycling in London and had been using google maps voice instructions for longer journeys. I found the routes were too busy and on main roads, whereas the citymapper routes were quieter and more suitable for cyclists, so I decided to pay for club to get step by step voice instructions. This was the first app I’ve ever paid for, and I was extremely disappointed. The voice instructions were delayed, so that it would tell me to turn into a road after I’d cycled past it. I cycle at a slow to average speed, but I’d have to have been cycling at a snails pace to hear the instructions in time. It kept telling me to do U turns because of the delayed instruction, and a journey that should have taken an hour took two. I had to stop using it half way through because it was doing to opposite of what it was meant to - getting me lost rather than showing me the way. Some may think this is an overreaction, however I am such a fan of all elements of the free version that I trusted that the paid version would be even better. But unfortunately my trust has been broken and I will be removing my subscription and will only consider redownloading it if this element is improved tenfold.

  • Quirky excellence

This is, hands down, the best transit app I’ve ever used, and I’ve used quite a few. It provides a surprisingly detailed understanding of your city; covers all modes of local transportation from traditional (bus & rail) to newfangled (Uber & scooters) and the very best of human-powered (walking & cycling); and offers up highly accurate and intuitive directions (tho I have noticed, at least in Chicago, some obvious route options missing from bussing suggestions)... And all of this excellent info is staged with a welcome sense of whimsy. Citymapper is a must-have (at least a must-try) for every wayfarer, pedalist, and straphanger.

  • Love this app!

I recently went on a trip to New York and you know how confusing the subway is. It was a great tool to use to get around quickly by finding the fastest route. I never got lost and would use this app again for any trip they have available. Now I’m back home and at first they didn’t have my city but I suggested making one for it because it is a large city and they did! It’s now even easier for me to get around downtown using metro systems and walking around. Thank you city mapper!!!

  • Used to be better

This app used to be the best way to get around Berlin, way better than Google maps. Recently has become extremely inaccurate for some routes, almost like it's inhabiting a different reality or something. Wildy wrong on things like the U bahn. It's shame because it used to be the king
  • Beautiful design, but lacks one main feature.

First off, I have to say this is the most aesthetically pleasing transport app on the market. Everything works well, with many many features to explore, and I would love to use it as a daily driver, but it’s missing the most convenient feature.

Similar to the official PTV app, there needs to be a page where I can see saved stops going in one direction only.

Currently, the app’s saved stop feature shows every single train line in that specific station. I don’t need to know that, I just want to know the next train that will take me home/to work. That’s the point of a favourites page right?

And if possible, incorporate a “next departure” feature based on your nearest saved stop as a complication on the Apple Watch. Similar to app, NextThere.

I can’t wait for this to be implemented, as this will then become the all in one PT app I’ve been searching for. But until then, I’ll will wait patiently.

  • App can’t orientate correctly

Was told this app was great by someone who used it in London. However upon trying it in Melbourne, it couldn’t orientate correctly despite location services being turned on. First time, it sent me around in a much longer route than the most direct route. Second time, I just wanted to go for a walk to a supermarket and it couldn’t even handle that. The marker for where I was was jumping all over the map. Can’t be bothered trying to use it for anything else seeing as it couldn’t handle a short walk.

  • Essential for London

Im a university student studying in London. Without this app public transport would be infinitely more effort. It breaks down each step of your journey giving you times for trains, information on delays and cancelations and tracks as you walk for directions between stations. I admit that at first glance it can look complicated but take a minute while ur waiting for a train or bus to try different features and after a few journeys u will get to grips with it. After reading other reviews I would stay away from the in-app ticket thing as people are saying it is more expensive and less flexible than oysters but I dont use that feature anyway. I also appreciate the small detail when it gives the calories it will say what percent of a meal it is (eg. 0.6 english breakfasts or 0.8 burgers)

    To conclude, download this app.

P.s. I wrote this essay of a review while I was supposed to be writing an actual essay

  • Best Navigation App

Honestly the best app I’ve ever used to get around a city. I was recommended it by my orientation leader when I got to college—I go to AU in Washington, DC—and it has made my life 100x better when it comes to getting around a new city. I even use it when I go home in New York City because of how amazing it is wi try showing updated information on trains and busses. Everyone should use this app I recommend it to every person I meet when I notice they’re not using it to get around. We should all take more public transportation and less single person vehicles! Also they’re design gimmick is super cute 10/10

  • Love this app and...

I’ve been using CityMapper for some time. It’s worked for me in my native Brooklyn and when I’ve traveled to Paris, and other cities in the US. I’m temporarily living in ATL and am sad I don’t have CityMapper there (I’m using Whiz). It’s my go-to travel app. Thanks for making it such a great product!

The main reason I’m not giving this app 5 stars is that the times are often much longer (sometimes 2x as long) as it takes to actually travel. For instance, it will say a stop 3 stops away takes 29 minutes no matter what time of day (not including wait time). It takes 10 (including walking time). I’m not sure if they are playing the airline game wherein they give you a longer time to that their “on time” date is higher, but I find it incredibly frustrating if I’m going somewhere else and I leave a lot of extra time and it takes half of it. I would love for CM to tweak their algorithm to be more accurate.
