If you don't do crosswords, this app will guide you and make the learning process really enjoyable. I was just part of an event in which I had some time on my hands but had to be available at a moments notice. A number of coworkers and myself were trying to solve crosswords for hours! We had a great time, realized we weren't as dumb or as smart as we thought, and felt satisfied when we solved a puzzle. You couldn't ask for much more!Show lessPuakia
Good app but broken in iOS 8
I've been using Across Lite for a long time, but unfortunately it's broken in iOS 8 and there hasn't been an upgrade in two years.
The problem is that if you're using the iPad's keyboard and exit the app, the keyboard won't render when you return to Across Lite. The only way to fix it is to force-close the app (double click the home key and swipe up on the app) and then reopen it.
This used to be a great way to solve the NY Times and LA Times crosswords, but I think the publisher has lost interest in keeping this app current with the latest releases of iOS.Show lessBocaboy
Great app
This is an easy to use app. I haven't been using it too long and am still on the puzzles that came with the initial down load, so I can't comment on adding puzzles. My only tiny complaint is that there is an inconsistency in how it highlights the word you are working on. When it chooses the word, it highlights the first unfilled square. Depending on the way you choose the word, it may highlight the first unfilled square or the first square of the word whether it is filled or not. If you are not paying attention in the last case, you will overwrite what is there with the wrong letter.Show less1Analyst
Outstanding!
A well thought out design in an app that does exactly what it was designed to do, entertain you. It uses a unique way of character entry as opposed to a common keyboard, this threw me off at first but it only took a few minutes to get use to and I find it easier to use now then a common keyboard. No keyboard to get in the way of a beautifully designed smart layout that gives the impression of doing the crosswords on paper. I highly recommend this app, if you intend to learn to do crosswords they also have "Across Trainer." It's a beautiful app to look at. It also has so many settings options for customizations. Very Nice!
I read reviews and decided to try this. I'm only a few in, but love crosswords and have been doing them since I was a child. When you do enough of them you learn a lot of words that are commonly used and these puzzles are no different. Of course, some of them stump me, but get enough letters and I can solve them. So far so good. I'm working my way through and look forward to the more difficult ones.Show lessAmes Account
Crosswords done simply
I am enjoying this app to solve NY Times Puzzles (for now). Great feature is that you can choose among free downloads by degree of difficulty. I too enjoy the Bluetooth Keyboard feature....much faster and do wish there was a tab function. Often I'm not ready to work on the word that is selected, but this is a minor down side.
I also wish it kept track of which puzzles you download by the reference number in the list of puzzles. I find I have to keep a manual list to avoid repeating a puzzle.
Looking forward to getting into the other free puzzles available when I exhaust the NYT Tuesday puzzles.Show lessWildwoodrver
Excellent app!
This is the best crossword puzzle app by far. I use it on my iPad every day. You can access endless free puzzles that I haven't begun to exhaust in the year that I've been using the app. I was frustrated at first by the letters down the sides instead of a regular keyboard but now that I have a case with a built-in keyboard, I can use that to enter my letters. I also love that I can see all the clues at once. I just can't think of anything to change about this app.Show lessSteinway72
Challenging? Above Average
Like all crosswords puzzles, how difficult or easy they are depends on how literate or well read you are (and what type of upbringing you had in school regarding grammar and English, LOL). In about two hours, I knocked off three crossword puzzles, the first easy one, the large easy one, and the first New York Times crossword (I don't remember the newspaper date :-). I heard that the New York Times crossword puzzles are the most difficult so I thought I'd try one. Like many fairly good crossword puzzles, which this is, it stimulates the mind and makes you think really hard, digging really deep to find some of those words (i'm embarrassed to say that some words were quite easy but ones that took awhile to get.)Show lessCitywildcat

Best crossword app period! AcrossLite has been the leader in crossword solving software for quite a while, so it's no surprise that they have made a first-rate app for the iPad. I've been using AcrossLite to solve NYTimes crosswords since it was first introduced on the computer. It works very well on the iPad. I appreciate how the designers of the app have continued to make improvements. I have purchased the premium version, and it is definitely worth it!Show lessTimPlatt
Outstanding app!
This is by far one of the best apps for crosswords that I have worked with. First of all you can change the view so that you have a keyboard. It starts out with letters on each side but if you put it in the portrait mode you find an icon for the keyboard., You do not have to download a bunch of crosswords that you will not use. It leads you to different Internet sites where you can download the difficulty of crosswords that you wish.
