I’ve used it from the VIC High Country to Cape York. I can sit at home and look at areas I want to visit, zoom in and out and follow tracks without having to find the next page the map joins up to. I plan routes and save as gpx files and when I’m out and about I can see exactly where I am on the map with GPS accuracy. I can save my favourite camps or points of interest and send them to friends. Yes the app is a bit clunky and takes awhile to learn, but so are paper maps. ### 3/5 — Review *2026-03-29, version 2.4.2* HEMA Maps offer solid and reliable mapping, especially for regional and outback travel. Just about unusable, so disappointed. THEY GET A ONE STAR FOR THE ONLY DECENT THING IT DOES AND THAT IS A ONE OFF PRICE ENJOY ### 1/5 — Zero stars for this app. *2026-01-11* This used to be a very good 4wd mapping app before their mapping system was corrupted and taken over by memory maps! Now the Hemma mapping app is rubbish - just electronic copies of paper topo maps that don’t show any detail at zoom and no clear signage. You pay top dollar for the “new” version of Hemma mapping app and the maps that they supply and the ones you can download are useless, particularly if you plan on any four wheel driving or adventuring. Not even sure you can use an external gps connected to your iPad to show your exact location. Memory maps that are supplied are also useless. If you swap platforms ie, apple to google or Samsung they won’t support your $100 purchase and transfer, expecting you to pay again. Visibility and clarity of tracks when zoomed in a grainy and poor, your better off purchasing a hard copy map in my experience. I paid for their other App as well and it’s vanished from the app store after persistent log in issues. So no word, no refund, just gone. I don’t hold out any long term hope for support of this App based on that. Save yourself the hassles and buy DMD. ### 1/5 — No CarPlay Support *2025-07-28, version 2.4.2* Using this app purely as a digital version of the printed maps is all you can expect from this app. Although it does that well, $99 for a map is seriously over priced. There isn’t really any excuse for not supporting CarPlay other than trying to promote their own HX2 which is also ridiculously overpriced and means another device to charge and unnecessary clutter on your windscreen when CarPlay could do the same job. ### 1/5 — So disappointing! *2025-07-09, version 2.4.2* This is such a clunky, old-fashioned, ugly excuse for a mapping app. It does you no credit, HEMA, and you should be ashamed to be offering it for sale. If you’re out in remote Australia and don’t have service, Hema maps is still available. We were able to take some very remote off the beaten tracks to waterfalls and camp spots that most people would never get to see. I have travelled to many parts of remote Australia using this app, and wouldn’t leave home without it. Those who are looking for routing instructions like Apple Maps, ie turn right in 4km etc, won’t like it. What it does it does extremely well. At any point in Australia, you can see exactly where you are on the map, and have a variety of maps to choose from depending on requirements. It does not show you petro stations, nor does it give reviews of the local fast food outlets. But it reliably show where you are on the map, the direction and speed you are heading, without internet or 4g access. I love it, and insist on whomever I am travelling with in remote areas, also carry the app on iPhone, or iPad, or preferably both for redundancy.
