### 3/5 — It does a decent job keeping track

*2026-08-05, version 10.2*

I wish it was better interstates where it tracks and transfer data for actual bodyweight.
I wish that the app would do a better job, adjusting weights for exercise that I added

### 2/5 — iPhone version sucks

*2025-06-20, version 9.5*

Hard to adjust training maxs. No ability to create accesories. No ability to skip workouts. This really sucks.

### 2/5 — Glitchy now? For paid user

*2025-06-02, version 9.5*

This app used be great but now for some reason it’s miscalculating all the weights which is super frustrating… it will say to do squats with 45lbs but then tell me to load a 10 & 2.5lb weight to the bar (which would make it 70, not 45??). I am a paid user, unfortunately.

### 5/5 — great app

*2025-01-29, version 9.1*

got my numbers again

### 5/5 — If you take strength training seriously, download it!

*2025-01-28, version 9.1*

5/3/1 works every time, without fail. TRAIN-EAT-REST-REPEAT

### 5/5 — Great For Logging Workouts

*2025-01-14, version 9.0*

I like the workout options!!!

### 5/5 — Over thinker

*2024-12-17, version 9.0*

As an over thinker this app is incredible. I like to look at all angles before making a decision. This app does all the work and lets me focus on pushing the weight. On day one I nervously jumped in and became comfortable in the second week.

### 5/5 — Works great

*2024-10-22, version 8.7*

WellDesigned and intuitive.. Works great

### 3/5 — App keeps resetting

*2024-10-12, version 8.7*

Great app however, randomly resets half way through your workout losing all data for that workout. Really annoying.

### 5/5 — Now it is a five+

*2024-09-25, version 8.7*

9.24.24 I have no idea went I wrote the last review but this still remains the best 6/3/1 app out there! Developer responded to my review with a little insider info, “Long press on the weight amount and a box will pop where you can enter weight in digits!”

Old review: Would have been 5 stars but the only way to change the weight in a lift is by using the +\- at .5 increments! Might be away to adjust the rate of change in the settings but haven’t found it.

The authors get major props for the options and functionality they built into this thing!

### 5/5 — Good App

*2024-07-30, version 8.7*

Enjoy the laid out percentages when trying to get stronger. Only been about 2 weeks since using, but enjoying so far

### 5/5 — Strength gains

*2024-07-29, version 8.7*

This app helped me to build strength at a consistent rate and it helped a lot by me being guided on what amount of sets and reps of specific weight I had to do.

### 2/5 — App closes randomly

*2024-07-28, version 8.7*

All aspects of this app is great, including all the personalization possible.

Only downside and it’s a big downside, is that the app randomly closes and I’d have to to relog the workout. This is with the premium paid app.

### 5/5 — Goat

### 5/5 — Reset cycle

*2024-01-06, version 8.7*

Bonjour
J’ai enregistré un cycle et j’aimerais revenir en arrière uniquement pour ce cycle là comment je fais ?
Merci

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — None if the cycles actually work

*2025-05-18, version 9.4*

Every single cycle is wrong. Its like something is off in the programming. Has me doing the same weights i did last week peaking for a deload week. Wont load BBB sets. Pathetic app

### 1/5 — Unknown cause of app termination

*2024-10-26*

I paid for the Apple Watch connection. However, the app closes for no reason during exercise. Rebooting the watch and phone does not resolve the issue. Please tell me how to resolve this issue, and if it does not resolve the issue, please refund me.

**Developer response:** Please update to the latest version (8.8) and send a bug report via the about page if the issue continues.
Update: 22 Nov 2024:
Please let me know if you've updated to version 8.8.

### 1/5 — Constant crashing

*2024-10-08, version 8.7*

I’ve used this app for years and loved it.

It has become unusable due to constant crashing during the workouts. After the crash I have to re-enter all the lifts and weights

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2024-06-26, version 8.7*

It was working for 3 months and now all the sudden it doesn't let me workout. I click the icons and it doesn't do anything.

### 1/5 — Weights Calculate Incorrectly

*2024-04-05, version 8.7*

I have a TM of 90 for Squat but then weight calculated for my 1+ set is 90, when it should in fact be 85 or 87.5 (90*0.95 rounded to nearest 2.5). The same is happening for my OH Press with TM of 60, the weight 1+ set is 60 when it should be 57.5. This is very frustrating as I am being asked to hit my TM on my first cycle, which runs the whole programme from the outset. Have deleted and re-downloaded multiples times and issue has not resolved.

### 1/5 — Il faut payer plusieurs fois la licence ?

*2023-11-27, version 8.6*

Bonjour

### 1/5 — how can i switch to 863 template?

*2023-04-15*

how can i switch to 863 template?

**Developer response:** Please see settings, Main percentages, Repscheme. May I know the reason for the 1* rating? Could you please send an email if you need further assistance?

### 1/5 — Junk

*2021-10-15, version 6.9*

Junk

### 1/5 — No assistance on paid version?

*2021-07-28, version 6.7*

I paid for the app weeks ago. Was working fine. Now all the sudden it’s asking me to pay again for assistance lifts??? What gives.

### 1/5 — Charged twice

*2020-07-27, version 5.9*

I have the 531 pro and assistance. Out of no where I dont have assistance workout capability? I had to pay another $3.99 for assistance once again. Just got ripped off

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Powerbuilding

*2026-07-11, version 10.2*

Great program to build strength and muscle

### 5/5 — Such an amazing app!

*2026-06-17, version 10.2*

I’m so glad to find this app. Makes following the 531 program so easy. It has all the features you need. On top of it, you can purchase it for a lifetime. Such a great developer!!

### 5/5 — Now it is a five+

*2026-05-21, version 10.2*

05/20/26 Still a 5!

9.24.24 I have no idea when I wrote the last review but this still remains the best 5/3/1 app out there!

### 5/5 — Great app for base 531 lifting.

*2026-03-06, version 10.1*

This app is great for basic 531 lifting (BBB, FSL, and so on). It missed a lot of what’s in Beyond, but you can probably brute force it in if you wanted to.

There is also a great Apple Watch integration to feed your lifting information to your hand so you aren’t having to constantly keep checking your phone. Great for lifting so I can try to come out a bit, it’s as close as you can get to pen & paper but with the convenience of an app.

A couple minor (again - very minor) complaints:

One is that the watch app frequently seems to forget you are lifting and loses your workout progress. It almost seems to never recognize if it’s in a session and run in the background. I am unsure what causes it but it happens quite frequently. Not the worst issue to go back into the app to send info back to your watch though, but it would be nice if the active workout didn’t lose progress so frequently if the watch goes to sleep for a brief moment.

Two is that editing your template can be a bit of a pain with an unnecessary learning curve. Once you know where you can edit from (Settings > Templates) it isn’t too bad, but it seems unnecessarily complicated for simply adjusting accessory lifts

It is still a 5/5 app though.

### 5/5 — Great Weightlifting app

*2026-02-03, version 9.9*

I like this app because it is simple, helps you improve steadily, and it’s free.

### 5/5 — Rare gem

*2025-11-24, version 9.7*

One of those apps that I would miss if I didn’t have it. Organized logically, includes timers, and automatically adjusts your 1RM based on your performance. I bought the Apple Watch extension, but I’ve yet to try setting it and leaving my phone in the car. Regular app definitely worth the price.

### 5/5 — Absolutely Worth the Money!

*2025-09-13, version 9.6*

I use this app religiously every week. I’ve been tracking progress and following the programming it sets up for me for over two years now. My overall strength has steadily increased. I’m 64 years old and my total for bench/squat/deadlift has methodically increased from the mid-700’s to over 1000 lbs through following the 531 methodology. The app has several great features like a plate loading function that uses the weights you own to then quickly tell you what to load on the barbell so you don’t even need to do any gym math. It can also set up programming for alternative lifts like front squats or dumbbell bench press, etc. Bottom line, if you have the patience and commitment to do the work, this app is a fantastic tool to help you achieve your goals. This has been worth every penny!

### 5/5 — Only dev that values privacy

*2025-08-27, version 9.6*

Try this 531 app, this dev will NOT scrape ALL your personal data. For that reason alone I give it 5 stars.
And the app is great, and well maintained

### 5/5 — Unbelievable

*2025-08-13, version 9.5*

Way exceeded my expectations

### 5/5 — Bug

*2025-06-02, version 9.5*

Bonjours , après avoir fais quelques semaines, l’application bug et m’empêche d’accéder à des entrainements. Impossible de cliquer sur une icône.
