  • Great game for the iPhone... before the update

I loved the old version of the iWesnoth app on the iPhone and played it for many hours, so I was excited to get this update. Unfortunately, this is just not playable on the iPhone because for some inscrutable reason, the zoom in/out feature is no longer available. So this means I can't see more than a tiny part of the battlefield, making tactics impossible. Too bad. I don't feel that my $s were wasted because these developers deserved more than what I paid for the first version. But still, I wish this were still playable on an iPhone because the old app is unsupported.

In fact, pinch-zoom was added to the mainline version in the last update. Please try it out! And you can still play the 1.10 version, which is no longer supported, but still available and runs (the MP and content servers, though, are shut down, or will be at some moment in the future).
  • Most underrated offline play games out there!

Great campaigns, loved the legacy edition way back when it originally came out. If your stuck for hours in a plane or car this has always been my go to. Love it. I hope there is more content coming at some point wether that’s a 2nd game or expansions.
  • Freaking amazing game

Got this game for free and haven’t stoped thinking about it since, so I bought the HD iPad version. Wonderful game packed with hours of game play! This game is worth every penny

Sorry for your experience. We will see if there's a bug in the rating component. Generally, clicking "No, thanks" once should make the prompt go away forever.
  • Brilliant

Love it. More enormous linked scenarios with equipment PLEASE!
  • Classic strategy game

I have been playing Wesnoth for many years and can now enjoy it on my iPad. Also when my son was in year 1 at school he found reading the scenarios more interesting than his school readers and it spurred him onto being an avid reader.
  • Excellent

Great title, worthy of much more exposure on the App Store. Old school in it’s business model, which is a great thing. You buy the game you have the game. You can even play it for free on a PC/Mac to see if its for you. Nothing to lose really.

Not sure if the developer reads these reviews, but just in case here’s a feature request: Improved mouse support now mouse on iPad is a thing. Would be great to have touch scroll on Magic Mouse to move the screen and also right click contextual menus. 👍

  • Unplayable in current form

New to this game and wanted to give it a try but after struggling with it for 2 hours i am now writing this review. It seems like a fun game if it works but when I use the action drop down and try to recruit more often than not it will not activate the recruit menu and the other half the time I have to tap quickly over and over to get it to work. A lot of freezes happen when using the undo action and when trying to set up a multiplayer game. Overall I would have loved to play it but in this form it’s unplayable.

  • Greatest game out there. Still one issue on iPad:

If you could implement the old touch control to fix the silver mage issue of not being able to see the whole range of movements, I’d be very grateful. To any that haven’t played, I give this game 6 out of 5 stars barring the small issue mentioned. Brilliant game, always keeps me coming back.

Edit: Thanks for the response! If I could add one more thing: I’ve been experiencing routine crashes while playing online. Maybe it could be because I was with people who were on PC? Not sure, but it made it impossible to finish several scenarios. Just a little bug, still love the game!

Thanks for a kind words! Crashes can usually be fixed by flushing the game cache. Will update the control schema soon, in the next release or one after that.
  • Decent turn based strategy. Eastern invasion STILL broken.

I certainly got my time worth. So for that alone, it is worth the price. The rng can be infuriating at times. Not a fan of that. My gripe is the campaign Eastern Invasion: [el] captured is broken on iPad. You cannot move your heroes before the enemy kills them, unlike pc. It makes this scenario impossible. More than a year this has been reported.

Update: 100 turns later and I lured them out, 1 by 1

  • Please fix this Bug

The Rise of Wesnoth- Clear Water Port -Turn Four will not save and go to the next turn. I have an iPad Air running the most recent operating system. And I have loaded the most current version of Wesnoth. I have run into this bug before for other scenarios where you can give commands to your allies.

Please fix this scenario so I finish it. It is a very good scenario
