  • This is the Star Ship game we deserve!

This is a fantastic game. My friends and I play on a home LAN and supplement the PCs with iPads. Yes, the iPad version is buggy when you exit it and try to relaunch but there is an easy workaround. Just double click the home button and swipe the Artemis app up to kill it. It should then relaunch fine. If you've wanted to command a star ship or at least be a part of the bridge crew, this is the game for you!

  • Pressing the Home button then going back in = black screen

The latest version (2.1.1) still has a bug on my iPad Air 1 with iOS 8.1.3: launch the game, wait for it to finish loading, then press the iPad's Home button. Then touch the app again to go back into it. The music keeps playing, but the screen fades to black and the game is unplayable until it's killed and relaunched.

  • Does not work on current hardware/OS

Application crashes to home after splash screen on current IOS (8.1.2) and current hardware (new iPad Air 2). I even followed developer's suggestion and restarted the iPad with a hard reset/power off/power on. New installation; I'm beyond the period of time available for refund.

I'm a fan of the desktop version, having bought the game twice on the PC platform (once for 1.x and again for 2.x/Steam). This version, however, appears to have had fatal and unresolved flaws since the fall (IOS 8).

  • Fragile app, broken on ios8

I'm playing the demo version on two PCs while using the iPad 3 as a server because I heard it was more stable than as a client. The game looks promising but the frequent crashes eventually made us give up. None of our ios8 devices work with it; they all crash out after the inital splash screen.
  • Lots of potential. Needs updates.

Definitely a fun game. You need a bunch of people to make it really fun and shine as a stimulator. The pc game works with this app and vice versa. It's such a cool idea for a game and I could have fun with this for hours on end.

However it does need some updating. Some bugs here and there and occasionally had difficulty connecting to the server, but I don't see the developer having a problem fixing these minor issues. All around fun game, if you love star trek or star wars then this the game for you hands down.

  • Bugs Galore, needs update

Artemis is a great game, and since it's been around on PC for a couple years now, my review will focus on this mobile version, not gameplay. Sadly, this mobile port is pretty buggy. There are several crashes I can reproduce on command, and when switching to the 3d view it lags a lot, which shouldn't happen on latest gen iOS devices like the iPad Air, because as Artemis players are aware, the graphics aren't exactly demanding. Or stunning.

In addition, this app needs to be updated to the latest version of the game, as it throws an error when interfacing with the PC version (though still playable).

What I love about this version is that I can now play Artemis at LAN parties without having to lug my PC around. The touch screen interface is a joy - no more keyboards or mice, just intuitive controls. It functions as one would expect. It also kind of gives a fun "Trekkie" type feel to playing, making it feel more futuristic.

If you play Artemis and you have an iPad, I highly recommend this app. I just hope that the devs get the bug issues sorted out soon - though I hear that mobile versions of the game are developed more slowly than the PC version.

  • An incredible game. Nothing else like it.

This game is unique. There isn't anything else like it in the world. I would encourage you to get it with friends and geek out. It needs a bit more polishing, but I feel that will happen once it receives more downloads.
  • Amazing and revolutionary

This is the first game I know of that requires this method of collaboration and can grow into something truly amazing with further development. Mods are being built, check the website. But what is really cool for teachers such as myself, is that the higher order thinking, decision making, collaboration, and verbal skills are aligned so nicely with the new Common Core State Standards in math and literature. As well, one can easily overlay other tasks such as linear regression, kinematic etc. onto the space-time map. Awesome way to practice the standards...Go Artemis!

  • Update...

As expected Artemis DEV Thom seems to have no interest in correcting this shifty port that he probably paid some 12 year old devastated to make for him. It's been far too long and he's building too large of a user base to not provide updates and bugfixes (especially after the Steam release)

Note to all game devs: if you're going to promise cross-platform you need to maintain that functionality between all platforms, not just what you find convenient because you aren't comfortable outside of your windows environment.

This can't be your hobby project anymore, people are paying you good money for services you aren't providing. Step up or give up, Thom!

  • Frustrating Bugs But Fun Is Still Possible

We encountered frequent problems trying to run this with all iPads (even when the server was an iPad 3 on iOS 6) – lots of disconnects for the clients and trouble reconnecting and the server would crash every time we got into battle with a group of enemy ships. Very frustrating!!

Luckily, we were able to scrounge up a Windows laptop (and buy the full desktop version) to try using it as the server and this helped a lot. The server stopped crashing and we could actually complete missions. The clients would still sometimes disconnect but it was playable and fun.

Note that if you use the desktop version with your iPads, you may well get an error on connect that the server is the wrong version, but you can dismiss this message and still play successfully (thankfully).
