### 3/5 — It’s fine

*2026-03-22, version 3.9.4*

Came here from the 5K app. While it tracks running and walking paces and distances covered fine, the system integration is a significant downgrade. I’m sure that has to do with how many people use this app and how big of a team/time the developers can dedicate to improvements vs maintenance. It doesn’t seem like there’s been a visual overhaul since the iphone 4 or something (which doesn’t ultimately matter) and the mid workout verbal prompts don’t work as easily, if you can get them to work at all (it takes a LOT of trouble shooting when the 5K version just worked). All said: it works and does the job it needs to do, but that’s it.

### 3/5 — Meh

*2026-03-11, version 3.9.4*

Assumes that you run on its schedule rather than checking when you run eg week x run 1 on a Thursday after 3 other runs; doesn’t monitor progress and set next run requirements accordingly

### 2/5 — Not maintained

*2025-07-23, version 3.9.3*

The pace clock stops, the gps is 0.02 km ahead when starting, the app was last refreshed for iOS 7. Maps need updating.

### 2/5 — Kind of unusable

*2025-01-29, version 3.9.2*

Needs a major update to run well on the current operating system

### 2/5 — App doesn’t work

*2024-09-23, version 3.9.1*

So generous of them make an app worse than the original. Did you guys test this even once? my hunch is no because then you’d know the halfway, running and walking cues all doesn’t work, at least not when listening to music which everyone does while they run.

### 2/5 — Worked for a while, then useless

*2024-09-02, version 3.9.1*

This app worked fine for the first part of training but suddenly quit cueing, tracking distance, pace, etc. So now I’m 2/3 of the way through training and have to switch to a new app.

### 3/5 — Needs voice commands

*2024-06-01, version 3.9.0*

I like the app for the over all use, but couch to 5k is much better for over all feel. This app doesn’t tell you what you should be doing inside of the run. Let’s say you’re supposed to do a 10 min jog then a 7 min tempo run, but then a 10 min jog. It will tell you to start your first jog, but a voice won’t tell you to do the tempo or the second jog, it sends me a notification. But no actual voice tells me what to do.

### 4/5 — Excellent little app

*2024-04-11, version 3.9.0*

Have used the interval runs regularly over the last four years. Nice to see how my performance has fluctuated over the years. You can log notes against a run along with an emoji. I can see tough runs today were tough before.

### 2/5 — Prettier but not as good as C25k

*2023-10-23, version 3.8.0*

At first the 5k to 10k app looks nicer, in practice it's inferior to C25k. There are no voice prompts mid run, so I have to look at my watch. There is no "Week <x> Day <y>" screens to share, just a nondescript "Finished" screen. That said the workouts are great.

### 4/5 — A bit glitchy

*2023-10-13, version 3.8.0*

Program is ok as a follow on from Couch to 5K but does not run as well, the commands only come through now and again so I have to guess timings for each stage
It’s very glitchy but it gives me weekly goals which is great
All the voices (when they work) are super annoying!

### 3/5 — Could be better

*2023-08-02, version 3.8.0*

Would like voice prompts during run. I have to keep getting my phone out to check which part of the run I should be doing.

### 2/5 — Too finicky to be useful

*2023-07-28, version 3.8.0*

The app requires you to have your phone with the ringer on, screen permanently unlocked and only works with Apple Music. My phone has been on silent since 2012, and if I run with my screen unlocked, I’m begging for issues (workout paused, skips ahead, skips back, etc). I don’t care about not being able to use other music apps as I use Apple Music but I care very much about having to use it within the app which means I can only listen to my playlists and in the order I put them together, not shuffled. The workouts are good and offer a great variety, but if I have to follow all these rules to get to them (and then they might be skipped around) what’s the point? I’m not bothering with contacting support.

I just use Garmin Connect to build workouts lifted directly from the app. At least then I know I won’t have any issues.

### 4/5 — Shame about the voice cues

*2023-07-19, version 3.8.0*

Such a great programme to take you from 5k to 10K. Well paced, safely increasing runs just such a shame the the voice cues seem so hit and miss. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Pleeeeeease fix!!!!

### 4/5 — 10K

*2023-07-17, version 3.8.0*

I want to run 10k

### 2/5 — Good report

*2023-07-17, version 3.8.0*

I have only used this 3 times I would totally recommend this app. Sign in for me was a bit of an issue. But I’m not sure if that’s just for me or if it’s the app. But overall fantastic.

### 3/5 — Good enough

*2023-07-11, version 3.8.0*

Loses stars because you can’t mark a workout as complete without actually doing it - I don’t take my phone with me when possible so just have to leave it running at home. Also be nice to be able to go out of a work out to check what some of the terms mean (what’s the difference between a jog and a steady run?!). I did get the voice prompts though, and it’s getting me out running.
For five stars it needs to be cross-compatible with other apps, like Runkeeper

### 3/5 — Good running program outdated app

*2023-05-26, version 3.7.1*

Like many here I came through the brilliant Couch to 5K. The 5K to 10K app however, needs updating to have feature parity. The app resolution and display area is not optimized for modern iPhones.

### 4/5 — Useful tool

*2023-03-19, version 3.7.1*

Could do with more audio prompts along the way, rather than just half way, and I would like to have control of the music myself at the end of the workout because I often run a few minutes more to get home after the official workout has finished

### 2/5 — Bugs

*2023-03-01, version 3.7.1*

The Couch to 5K program was great. This one has a lot of bugs in it. Starting with acing to watch an ad when you want to use it. I’d rather just purchase it with no ads. Second when you start a run you never know which one you will get. Today I tried to start Week 2, day 2. But it gave me “Open Run”. Third it doesn’t prompt you when you are suppose to change cycles. Just to name a few

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Fix the lock please

*2025-07-21, version 3.9.3*

The locking on the 5k is better. I locked my app but somehow it came undone and my time restarted with 4 minutes left to go on my run. Not cool.

### 1/5 — Error Code 500

*2023-09-24, version 3.8.0*

Can’t login via email or facebook. I’ve deduced it’s this app at fault as facebook emailed to say my Facebook info had been shared with you. My preference wouldn’t have been to share my Facebook profile with your app but I wasn’t getting anywhere with just my email and password.

I get the above code when I ask for a password link to be sent to my email.

I can’t see the point in this app if you can’t login & keep track of your progress/runs.

Let’s face it you’re not scoring high with this app - I’ve read the reviews!

### 1/5 — Apple Watch??????

*2023-09-04, version 3.8.0*

Why is there no 5k to 10k app for Apple Watch???

### 1/5 — No prompt during running

*2023-05-19, version 3.7.1*

There are no prompts during the sessions which make the app useless when you are running unless you keep looking at your phone every 2 minutes… completely useless for the purpose

### 1/5 — Absolutely terrible

*2023-03-25, version 3.7.1*

Really only works if you’re holding your phone and as having it in your pocket or in a running band affects the buttons and distrupts your run.

### 1/5 — No Apple Watch Connect

*2023-01-07, version 3.7.1*

Anyone else having trouble installing it to your Apple Watch?

### 1/5 — Hate It

*2022-02-23, version 3.6.8*

I hate this app. It inaccurately estimates my average mile minutes. It too easily unlocks and then either pauses or moves to the next section. Worse still, if you do accidentally go to the next section abs try to go back, it erased the miles you already clocked. Couch 2 5k was so good. This app is t worth it.

### 1/5 — Crapp

*2021-04-14, version 3.6.7*

This is a Crapp. A huge disappointment. There are absolutely no audio instructions during your run, no encouragement, no notification that you should start or stop running. You might as well check the time on your watch while you are running. Plus it requires far too much information to get into the app and does not integrate properly with the iphone, meaning no auto fill. Coming off the back of the sensational couch to 5km this was such a waste of time.

### 1/5 — Eh

*2021-03-02, version 3.6.7*

Doesn’t always say when to stop rubbing and doesn’t tell u have far you have gone only good thing is that it’s free but you pay for what you get but helped me get a stamina

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2021-01-09, version 3.6.6*

It was a plain and clearly very dated app, but it used to have a basic 5k to 10k plan that tracked workouts.

The audio never really worked in the background, but now the run tracker won’t even load. I think the latest iOS update broke it—January 2021.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great stepping stone

*2025-07-16, version 3.9.3*

I’ve been running 5k for about a year and needed to find an app to help me a) get quicker and b) transition to 10K. This app is perfect for it and is really helping

### 5/5 — Free and it works

*2025-04-01, version 3.9.2*

Pretty good, but wish it showed the entire plan for the run, not just what segment comes immediately after the current one. Still, I like that it’s free and doesn’t require pages of surveys about your goals before getting started. The voice prompts work for me too.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-01-31, version 3.9.2*

I’ve been using this app since 2018, and it has been my go-to training companion for every 10K race. It keeps me on track, motivated, and ready to perform at my best!

### 5/5 — Great app that helps you instill a training plan

*2024-09-09, version 3.9.1*

I used the Couch to 5k to start running then I made the transition to the 5k to 10K app so I could get better at 5k’s. The 3 day plan you get here will greatly help you too!

### 5/5 — Perfect next step

*2023-05-31, version 3.7.1*

If you’ve just finished Couch to 5km then this is absolutely the right step if you want to push on towards 10Km, can’t rate it high enough.

Really sensible progression. Removing walks and introducing tempo runs (which the app does explain in the settings). But also includes rest weeks which are also really important.

The app does prompt you mid run, for section changes and half way point - but it’s true it can be a bit tricky to get the audio through - I suggest unmuting and changing phone settings to allow this app to interrupt you.

It includes distance and pace tracking. Meaning you don’t need to use additional tracking apps (though I do use strava also).

It also tracks and store multiple sets of data for each run, so if you repeat runs or the whole programme like I have two years apart you can track progression in the app.

And it’s free!

And negative would be that’s the community side of it clearly hasn’t been maintained for 6 years but that’s not really what I need it for.

And it might be a negative to people that there are no celebrity voiceovers but as this isn’t a coaching app like C25k is thé it’s not that necessary in my opinion.

Long story short - download this app now!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2022-09-13, version 3.7.1*

This is such a great app. I use it when I’ve been slacking on my running to get back up to speed and distance. Just wish they had a 10K to 13.1k app

### 5/5 — Love this program!

*2022-06-02, version 3.7.0*

I’ve used the couch to 5k app to get back running after pregnancy and injuries, and now I’m using it to build up endurance for longer distances. I love that it eases the runner into safe progression.
I would like to see:

More integration with treadmill. When I manually add my distance it gives me a pop up that my stats are erased. This is ok as I track stats with other apps.

More coaching during the run. For instance, I was distracted at the beginning of one of my runs and missed the instruction for what a tempo run is. As someone who didn’t do track in high school and basically just goes out and runs I don’t know what some terms are. I would have liked that instruction in my ear as I ran.

Regardless, I feel like this is a safe progression that will keep me from being injured by overdoing it! I have recommended the couch to 5k to new runners and I’d recommend this one too!!

### 5/5 — Just the prod i needed

*2021-05-23, version 3.6.8*

I’ve downloaded this app as i can run 5km without to much of a problem, i need some structure to my running, it tells me when to speed up my tempo, when your halfway, when to slow down etc etc, it beats just running along at the same speed. I can feel im getting fitter. The only thing id improve is that it automatically synched with i tunes but all my best running music is on Amazon music and I can’t get it to swap !

### 5/5 — LOVE THIS APP

*2020-12-04, version 3.6.6*

Highly recommended if you're new to running no matter what age or fitness level you're at (start with the 5k first of course)

### 5/5 — Versatile

*2020-10-29, version 3.6.6*

I love that I can use this app when I’m pushing a stroller, on a treadmill, on the beach or trail, and sidewalks. Great integration with my playlists and accurate mile measurement. Plus, I can’t imagine anyone training alongside me than Drill Sergeant.
