  • It’s legit

The app itself is really good. I haven’t used it very long, but it’s worked very well and fast for the time I’ve used it. That’s not what this review is about though. The five stars were earned in customer service.

I bought this app and imported all of my manga. Everything went smooth except for one file. And as luck would have it, it was the file I wanted to read.

I bought this app after work on a Friday and it was late by the time I figured out I couldn’t read the manga I wanted. So I emailed the dude, thinking I’d get a response Monday. This dude got back to me in hours. Helped me trouble shoot the issue over the weekend. Back and forth, multiple emails and stuff. I’m just really impressed.

This app is sold at a reasonable price, it works, there’s no subscription, and whoever is running this joint actually cares about their customers. Where else do you get that for 5 bucks in 2024?

  • Excellent

The app is great! Ran into some problems and support was extremely helpful and fast! You’ll never find any service like this!
  • Google Drive blocked for trying to access sensitive info?

You’re no longer able to sync files using google drive. You get a message saying, the app tried to access sensitive information. It’s a bit concerning but I emailed the dev(s) and they said} they’re working on a fix. Hopefully this issue can be resolved because it’s a good app.

I contacted the dev(s) for help with this and received a quick response with a detailed explanation.

This started to happen a few days ago, I am working on a new release to inform the users about it.
  • Google Drive blocked for trying to access sensitive info!

I’m unable to sync files anymore because according to google this app tried to access sensitive information. I’ve never seen that message before. It’s very concerning. Hopefully his can be fixed because it’s a decent app.

Edit: I received a quick response so raising the rating. It’s apparently a known issue, though it’s not written anywhere on their site or in the description. I mean, why still have the Drive option if it stopped working?

P.S. contacting the dev team required using the default iOS app for some reason. I had to sign in there, which worked fine, just to get their email address. Beyond annoying!

I just wanted to read some comics!! I’ve spent like half an hour trying to figure this buggy thing out 😭

  • It’s ok

I thought this app would offer more since you have to buy it! I wish when we swiped down it wouldn’t close the comic and I wish there was a better way to see panels. The marvel app reads through the books automatically which is awesome. I thought this app might do that! I like how the swiping through the panels was better on the marvel app too. It may be better to just pay for the marvel app and ditch trying to read comics on here. Please get rid of closing the comic when swiping down. I want to see the next panel not close my comic! Thanks and god bless!

Please, use the Help section to contact me if you need to. You need to configure the behavior of the app to your liking. You can enable double tap for zooming (or use two fingers tap) and you can pick the layout for the hot areas of the screen. EDIT: please use the support service, swiping down shouldn’t close the app when there is scrollable content. Panels navigation is configurable, you only need to zoom in a panel (using two fingers tap or a double tap, depending on how you have configured the app) and then you can tap to go to the next panel, you can go through a full comic panel by panel just by tapping…
  • No epub support

Actually surprised there is no epub support. Modern day epub is so popular yet lacks such feature. Hope dev can add it. I’ve seen people requesting it since 11 years ago.

    Developer Response

YACReader is specialized in comics, and for comics the standard is cbz/cbr, most digital comics you may find around don’t benefit from epub or pdf formats since comics normally contain an image per page. I am not against epub, but adding support for it means adding support for books too and I’ve been focusing in other features.
  • Good App but Performance Issues

This is the best comic reader I’ve used in terms of features, but I am having consistent performance issues. Reading in PDF format, no matter whether optimised PDF performance is turned on or off, the app will start to lag as I read through a volume (noticeable with delayed and stuttery page turns) and will sometimes crash entirely. I am using an older iPad (6th gen) but I haven’t had this issue in any other reader I’ve used. Still rating 4 stars for its feature set and ultimately despite the issues it is still (at least currently) my reader app of choice. But I do hope these issues can be addressed!

Enabling the PDF optimization requires to re-import your PDF files. I recommend cbr or cbz over PDF for comics.
  • Best Comic Reader

I had to leave a review for this for anyone out there on the fence. I’ve been reading comics in the Kindle App (Comixology) but that wasn’t helping the comics I had that weren’t in Kindle. I was using Panels and just not pleased with the guiding reading feature and the import was OK. I found YAC reader based on some Reddit forums and this app is so worth the price - I’m frankly amazed it’s so reasonably priced for the functionality you get.

    1) the YAC Library on my desktop keeps things organized so well, quickly imports comics, and makes it extremely easy to share to the reader I use in IOS. And 2) YAC Reader then is an extremely functional and easy to use reader that makes importing and syncing with your library a snap.

Pay the price with confidence as you’re getting an amazing comic book reader with more functionality then you can imagine. Take the time to search the user manual as the developer has great guides for everything you need out there

    Thank you!

  • For the things that it does do, the app performs well

I like all the options for importing methods, that’s very helpful. As long as your source file is high-quality, the images look nice and crisp (no weird hashing of screen tones in manga).

Two things I REALLY wish this app supported:
    1) Manga/comic ePUB files. I buy most of my manga as ePUBs, so the lack of ePUB support is probably my biggest complaint—this is what will keep me from using the app regularly.
    2) Ability to change “pages-up” setting automatically upon rotation. It’s a pain to have to manually change the settings every time I want to quickly switch to a 2-page spread and back to 1-page portrait.

2 is already there, you just need to select the automatic option…
  • It’s a good app for downloading comics.

It’s a good app but I didn’t realise it was 7$. I accidentally purchased it thinking it was free. I didn’t realise it costed money so while using the app, I thought that it was actually quite good while knowing it was free. The downloads were quick, and the quality was really good. It was easy to download and transfer. (PS. I accidentally got a refund but I’d like to cancel my refund if possible. Thank you! )
