  • Trustworthy, but terrible search engine

Trustworthy, but the search engine doesn’t allow for any typo or any type of mis labeling. There’s no “I get what you are meaning to search for” from reverb. That leaves a lot of hidden gear, which can be very annoying as a buyer. If I look up “browne protein guitar pedal” it comes up as error. If i type in “browne amplification protein” I’ll get one. If i type “brown amplification protein” I’ll get another. I think they could do better with search engine optimization. Overall good though despite my heavy criticism. Try looking up a Gibson les paul custom studio. You’ll never find it unless you use google.

  • The worst

App hasn’t functioned properly for the past several updates, most options are greyed out now sort, filter, add to cart, checkout, customize feed, nothing works any longer. “Tech support” has been a useless waste of time. At this point I need to use a desktop to use the site at all, app is now only good for browsing.

(And to your reply of asking for specifics, nope I have already done all of these things you are asking for REPEATEDLY, after four or five times of sending you information about app versions, phone and ios versions, screen shots and everything else you asked for over and again, your “tech support “ effectively abandoned the issue. Any attempt to pull up Reverb on Safari or any mobile browser redirects to the useless Reverb app. You come on here and front like you want to help but it’s simply not true.)

  • Fixed the clogged watchlist, but not the most important part..

Love this app but.. The timing and accuracy of the feed is still wrong. They used to have it where the feed was always the newest listings first, but it isn’t like that anymore. I have things listed days ago 4th in the list, meanwhile I have to manually search for new listings if I want to catch any “good deals”. Part of the incentive to open the app numerous times a day was to try to catch the deals as they pop up before they got snagged but now I have to just hope I search for the deals before they’re gone. It basically nullifies a main component of adding things to your feed. Again, I do love this app/site, I just wish they’d quit tinkering with it as it worked better before they sold the company.

  • Best Online Music Store

Reverb quickly turned into the number one online music store. It is the best place to find used gear anywhere in the world actually.

Their App, I gave 4 stars because 01 it can be glitchy at times 02 their search engine is too specific, and 03 I’d like to have saved searches that I could be alerted for when new listings pop up.

The main glitch I find in the app is when you are filtering your search, and then sorting, it will say no results, when there definitely are results. Usually closing the app and reopening fixes this but it can be a pain or downright misleading if you don’t know this is an issue.

What I mean by their search engine being too specific is, if you mistype feMder Stratocaster instead of “Fender” or GiVson instead of “Gibson” it will say, “Wow that is really rare, no results found” or something to that effect.
Unlike every other modern search engine that will intelligently realize you made a typo and say “showing results for X, if you want to search for the mistyped thing click here” you have to type exactly what you want. Well, what if the person selling the item mistyped? What if there was some little nuance that you were unaware of like a Gretch BroadKaster (spelled with a k) drumset?

Overall the app is very good. Just fix those issues and add a way to save a search and be alerted for new listings and I’ll give it 5 stars...

  • Things are starting to go the wrong way

Reverb has always been the best place to find a deal on music equipment. However, I am starting to see trouble ahead. After Etsy took the reins Reverb lost that personal touch that Chicago Music Exchange provided. Reverb has sold out unfortunately. I understand why the creators left. They never expected this to be such a hit, and was admittedly overwhelmed. Since the change of guard we’ve seen a fee hike, transparency is not strong, support is becoming difficult to receive, surprise fee’s being added for “processing”?? What really bothers me is now tax is being imposed upon used items. None of the above is good signs for how the future of Reverb is going to look. This used to be my first and last stop for all things music. Now there is no driving factors keeping me around. I want this to succeed, but this business model is a fast sinking ship. I hope something changes before this place is a barren shell of what it used to be.

One last thing.. I have mentioned this to support more than a few times but this bug still persists… Please fix the feedback shuffle bug!!! It’s so frustrating trying to read through a shops feedback then all of the sudden the page jumps to a completely random spot, thus losing my place down the list.

  • Where did the price guide go?

Why did we take this out of the app? It was super useful as both a buyer and seller. I have to open up the share link in my browser to actually see it. So it’s not that it’s gone altogether, just removed from the app for our convenience? I’d prefer not to have to have to use two different methods of interaction, especially when it was there before. Maybe it’s hidden in there? Well, I can’t find it.

Similarly, the shipping calculator is only accessible when actually listing a product.. why? Again, I have to open a browser and search for “reverb shipping calculator” to find a version of the tool that doesn’t make me jump through the hoops.

One more thing... The first item I listed seemed to let me select the the actual item as it is in Reverb’s database and filled in all the necessary info for shipping. When it came time to purchase the shipping label it was super easy. Now it doesn’t do that? Every item since has asked for the HxWxL and weight. I like to have the shipping place pack it up with proper materials so I can never be sure if the label I purchase from reverb will be correct. I don’t want to overpay but I also don’t want it to be incorrect and have to buy another one.

  • Starting to make bad design choices

I love this site and am very grateful for its liberating us musicians from eBay. Just to comment - as there is no feedback option on the app - that app changes are starting to be poor.

The new home pages are far less user friendly than the old one where you could easily switch between watch items, recently viewed etc. Much more fiddly now with the new homepage. Also, the new default setting of listing lots of categories and having to expand a very short list of my own recent searches is a real pain. Being able to see a full list of my recent searches was so much easier and useful.

So generally this is a great app but please consider reversing these changes and don’t go down the route of making changes for the sake of it, which usually means bad ones!

  • Smooth payment through papa!

    Very easy to use. Thanks.
  • Now and then.

I recently decided to stop selling on Reverb. I’ve been selling with them for a number of years, since before the acquisition by Etsy, and it’s changed quite a bit. The market is flooded with new buyers and sellers, but remains severely male dominated which I suppose female dominated Etsy couldn’t care less about. As a non-binary femme, I faced issues of micro aggressions with buyers and sellers alike. The app became increasingly difficult to navigate inventory as a buyer. As a seller, I dealt with what I strongly suspect was gender based harassment from buyers that when I contacted support about, had to endure a ridiculous, time consuming, mainly unsupportive ordeal to resolve.

All of this considered I see no benefit to Reverb compared to other selling platforms anymore. They need to improve the app for sellers and buyers alike, allow blocking (even eBay has this feature!) and take reports of harassment more seriously. Until those things happen I won’t be using Reverb anymore.

  • Not an easy experience (UK based)

To be clear, I’ve not tried to sell on Reverb, but tried/wanted to buy, yet the app hinders this compared to other buy/sell platforms out there (mainly eBay)

    - iOS app is too cluttered. Not as intuitive as it could be when wanting to browse/search.
    - infuriating search engine; the default global search is a very misleading way to hunt for items. Having to change it to UK each time is time consuming. Pushing so much U.S content in a European (yes I said it) area is counterintuitive for local buyers. Most UK buyers will be frightened off by shipping / import fees.
    - and lastly, prices..especially for second hand items, are way high. It’s odd when the internet has made us so price savvy for second market items; finding a reasonable deal, let alone a bargain is hard here. By typical used prices, buying new seems the clear option..at least you’d have warranty / returns options in that case. So, eBay it is then.

    Pros.
Your demo/teaching video content is great..well done there.
Well done for making a music inst/tech dedicate buying/selling platform; it just needs to iron out the creases for me to use it.
