### 4/5 — Fun, short little time waster.

*2023-07-20*

This game is nothing great, but I appreciate the small amounts of inspiration it takes from either SaGa or Octopath.

One of seven main characters to choose from, and you can freely recruit the other six characters in whatever order you wish, with a maximum of three usable teammates in battle.

However, most team comps will probably include Lylia, as she’s a very good healer. Trust me, for the final boss, you’ll want a healer.

The battle system is extremely standards turn based RPG fare. Not bad, but basic.

The default movement is slow as molasses, but the game world itself is so small, it’s not too tedious.

There are random battles, but the encounter rate is very low, and the exp gain is quite high.

The story is minimalistic. It’s nothing special, but there’s a singular decent plot twist near the end.

This game is exceptionally short, beatable in a little over an hour.

All in all, this game is nothing special, but it’s a good palate cleanser after finishing any longer, more involved rpg.

I give it a 3.5/5.

Round up to 4/5 because I’m generous.

### 3/5 — Bug

*2022-06-04, version 2.2.2*

Seems there is a bug after the encounter with King Daelan. After ‘waking’ there is nowhere to go. Cannot progress the story

### 4/5 — Nostalgia but limited

*2022-01-14, version 2.2.2*

Loved that it was exactly like final fantasy 2.
Kind of short though.
Biggest problem is it’s called 7 stories but from what I saw when I beat the game the ending has nothing to do with my character at all. Are there actually 7 stories or even 7 endings? I highly doubt it

### 3/5 — Too easy

*2021-10-17, version 2.2.2*

Really good game and story just far too short and too easy for me.

### 4/5 — Old school RPG

*2020-12-08*

I like that it has 7 characters to choose from. It’s basically a classic RPG style game. There are townspeople and a world map. Apparently it’s made using an RPG maker though that’s fine with me.

Only thing I don’t like are the black bars on the screen— it should be updated for the latest devices. It would look much better if it didn’t have them. I only played a bit so far, and it’s pretty decent.

Update: there’s been an update although I still see black bars on the edges of my iPhone 11.

### 4/5 — Totally worth it!

*2020-12-03*

This is a very fun game which reflects the creativity and skill of the developer. I also truly enjoyed the sequel to this, 7 Souls. Thanks for the fun!!

### 4/5 — Worth a play

*2020-10-14*

It’s a fun little game, surprisingly short.

### 2/5 — 7 stories? More like 7 minutes

*2019-05-01*

You can beat the game in under an hour. Two caves, 2 or 3 towns. Too short for a good rating from me.

### 3/5 — Be Warned, Not iPad 4 Compatable

*2017-09-01*

Many iPhone games can play quite well on tablets but this is not one of them. Whether you use x1 or X2 display, there are portions of the game screen which are not available. Only half of the action button is viewable, which can still function, but the bag, located at the top right corner is completely missing. So you are unable to access your equipment, stats, inventory at all. This is unfortunate and perhaps they will be able to adjust the resolution in a future update. I knew the risk of buying it so I have no one to blame but myself, but for a standard res RPG, I decided to take a chance.

EDIT.....new update was to provide x3.5 resolution for tablets. Unfortunately the update does not work. States that the iPad 4 needs to be updated to most recent version but my iPad 4 has the latest update...

### 2/5 — Plot fail

*2016-05-24, version 1.1*

It introduces all these promising back stories and all we get is a single bland storyline that addresses none of them.
Fun enough array of skills to mix and match, albeit offering little variety of enemies.
About as poor as RPGs come.

### 4/5 — 7 Stories an epic RPG for all

*2014-09-14, version 1.1*

I've played 7 Stories before a while ago a little around when it first came out and I was hooked I played it and played it and played it my favorite team of was the high elf pyromancer dude (Great with physical attack in great attack magic )the dark Baron (A tank with spells) and the alchemist(can heal poison inhibit enemy and has awesome attacks as well balanced all around) this team just worked great at slaughtering all of the enemies and keeping them from even laying hand on me.... AnyWho my friend is playing this game now he's a beginner to it and I don't have time to just sit with The guy and talk him through it does anyone know if there's a strategy guide or let's play videos on YouTube for this game my buddy is stuck please help gamer community like The awesome people you are :) my friend is stuck and I cannot help him it's all up to you

### 2/5 — Viel zu kurz!!

*2013-10-10*

### 3/5 — Too short

*2013-07-10, version 1.1*

Good game but way too short, reminiscent of F.F mystic quest.

### 4/5 — Fun 7th Saga Clone

*2013-01-20*

This is a pretty good RPG. You basically choose a 3 person party with 7 different lead characters. Only complaint I have is that it could've deviated from the SNES game, 7th saga a little more since some things, word for word, are the same, like fighting that bounty hunter, getting orbs to become ruler, or having the cave locked. At least the game is balanced (and you have 3 people in your party you get pretty quickly instead of 2).

### 3/5 — Good except for random crash

*2012-12-17*

I enjoyed the game, but it got really annoying when I was fighting bosses and it would crash. I would then reload the game only to find that the boss I was halfway through beating was nowhere to be seen as I was either at the beginning of the map to get to him or in the kings case right in front and had to re-fight him again. Fix this please!

### 4/5 — Great game

*2012-11-24, version 1.1*

Way to short I don't really feel like I got my money's worth should have expanded

### 4/5 — Great short RPG!

*2012-10-23*

Great game, although way too short. But I picked it up for only a dollar, and 3 hours from start to finish was actually perfect for the amount of time I had to play anyway. Great graphics for a handheld, d-pad worked almost flawlessly. Character moves a bit slow though for a short game it's not a problem.

### 2/5 — falls short of expectations

*2012-09-22*

I bought this game a while back because I love classic 8-bit rpgs, and this seemed promising, especially the implied Secret of Mana-esque replayability based on which character you pick.

in some aspects I wasn't disappointed; the graphics were lovely, there was nothing glitchy, and I was able to build a strategically good party from the classes offered to me. I also really liked that I didn't lose any armour or weapons equipped to characters I switched out.

however as people have pointed out, the game is very short. I played it through in about four hours, and got bored quickly in replay. for all that the character biographies seem to imply that the story arc will depend on the character you pick, there was absolutely no individual story. the game would benefit from characterization, inter-party dialogue, perhaps a change in the way NPCs interact depending on who you are playing, and stronger emphasis on character goals. the ending tried to tell me that the characters had given up each of their individual goals in order to work together, but there wasn't actually any sign of that team development within the game.

in short, I felt like I could play any free RPMaker2000 game, or knock one up myself, and get the same fight-monsters-level-up experience. A little early grinding and good use of the Pirate "Quick Strike" meant the game was never challenging for me, and I was deeply disappointed by the lack of depth to the story and characters, the lack of puzzles, and the difficulty in following the story in the correct order (I still don't know when I got the "dancer's key".) the twist ending was cool but what seemed like an exciting new game on the surface fell leagues short of Final Fantasy, Lufia, and other famous jRPGs.

### 3/5 — Good but Short

*2012-03-15*

As others have said, this game is too short. Also, I found wasted potential in the fact that there was little to no variety in how the seven characters interacted with each other. Otherwise a very fun game.

### 4/5 — geht

*2012-02-14*

### 4/5 — Short and sweet

*2011-11-04, version 1.1*

Yes, it's about 2 or 3 hours long, but I enjoyed the brief ride. Good graphics, easy battle system. It's very basic but polished.

I can't wait to see more from the makers because this was a very fun little game.

My only complaint is with 7 main characters I would like some interaction between them, and character development besides what is written in the game summary. I liked the simplicity of the plot but I would have enjoyed seeing more conflict between the heroes. I did enjoy having that douchebag poison guy finally want to join my green lady :D

More dialogue between party members and more plot!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — What??

*2021-02-03*

This is the most ridiculous game ever!! There are no instructions on how to play and what you are aiming to get!! All this thing did was move back and forth and side to side!! Glad I didn’t pay money for this!!!

**Developer response:** There was a bug that was skipping the introduction for some players. If you download the latest app update and start a new game you should get the proper intro :)

### 1/5 — Not Another RPG Maker Game!

*2018-11-15*

I would like to preface this review with the disclaimer that I adore the RPG Maker series of game development software. For those not in the know, RPG Maker is a program that comes in a variety of different instances and generations, each more powerful and feature-packed than the last, which allows users to create their very own Dragon Quest-style RPG with, optionally, no program at all. Each generation comes with pre-loaded sprites, animations, and music, with newer generations including tools to develop one’s own sprites and back-end programming utilities should the user desire a more customizable experience.

7 Stories is developed with one of those RPG Maker programs. This itself is forgivable; RPG Maker is a great tool to use to learn the mechanics of game development and design, and if a person is able to monetize the game and their experience of learning a skill, I say all the better. The problem is, in my view and evidently the view of the role-playing game community as a whole, that the program comes replete with so many assets that it actually discourages originality and uniqueness. Because so many of the games made with RPGM utilize the preloaded assets with a minimal amount of customization, they all tend to play the same, look the same, and in the end are entirely forgettable. This is the real problem with 7 Stories: its complete lack of originality.

As far as stories go, we’re presented with a pretty typical and safe RPG storyline: Elderly King of Fantasytown must choose a successor to his throne, here by dispatching seven adventurers on a quest to retrieve four magical orbs. Whomever succeeds in retrieving the orbs will presumably earn the crown. To be fair, the creator did spend a bit of time on their characters, the titular seven different protagonists the player is able to choose to play as. Each has their own style of dialogue and skill set and although there isn’t much a light displayed on the personality of the characters more than their objectives for wanting to take the throne, they each feel tangibly different, much more than just a color-swapped stock sprite. The differences in learned skills and attributes allows for some small amount of party customization. Once immersed in combat however, this fails to make much a difference, as the battles are effectively reduced to the rinse-wash-repeat pattern of tap fight/skill, tap the enemy, and wait for the enemy to attack you.

The game difficulty scales rapidly and unevenly; the first area has two types of enemy who are easily killed. A battle with these enemies can yield 15-50 exp points depending on the number of enemies fought, with the average earned being about 40. In the second area, the enemies grant roughly double the exp points, but are much harder to kill and will harm you much quicker. In terms of resource management and battle efficacy, it makes more sense to just grind in the first area until strong enough to bypass the second area all together.

The setting is dull and boring and is the aspect of the game most obviously hindered by the game-in-a-box approach that so many RPGM developers utilize. There is an overworld map representing forests, plains, mountains, deserts and oceans, with little 2x2 tiles representing towns, castles, dungeons and caves. It is sparse and ugly. (As a side note, why is this type of level design still acceptable in 2018? Just design the level proper, stop being lazy and relying on an overworld map.) Once the player interacts with a 2x2 town tileset they’re transported into the town with scale-appropriate buildings, trees, the occasional townsperson milling about, etc. You know what I’m talking about. You’ve seen this before. It’s nothing new. The dungeon designs aren’t much better.

And that’s pretty much the game. With all said, I would rate the game 2/5. It’s passable and serves its purpose; I bought it to mindlessly slaughter monsters and to engage in the occasional grindfest while I’m waiting for appointments, coffee, etc. and that exactly what I would recommend it for. It also doesn’t have a paywall or pester you to upgrade or spend money on in-game resources.

That said however, I ultimately had to award the game 1/5 because, and this is an important note, there is a game-breaking bug in the second dungeon. Once you enter the dungeon, for whatever reason you are unable to leave. Attempting to walk out simply transports you back inside. This doesn’t appear to be a feature of the level as it continues to do it even after you defeat the boss. Because this bug broke my game and make progress impossible, I have to rate it 1/5.

PROS:
- Mindless grinding is always fun
- Characters feel tangibly different
- Party customization
- No paywalls or in-game purchases!

CONS:
- Uninspiring, routine gameplay
- Lack of originality in world design, chipsets, animations, or story
- Game-breaking bugs disallow the continuation of the story
- That overworld map

### 1/5 — Quickest RPG ever

*2016-06-24, version 1.1*

I really liked this game, but I've never completed an RPG before with only a level 9 character. I honestly thought the last boss of the game was the first boss of the game, I actually started laughing when the credits rolled. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but over way, way, too fast to be considered a true RPG. This game is easily 5 stars if it was three or four times longer. But as it sits it feels too rushed and they don't give you a chance to properly care about the story because it's over before you can blink.

### 1/5 — The 7th Saga died a little last night.

*2014-11-23, version 1.1*

This is an incomplete knock off of the 7th saga, almost blatantly straight from the 1993 SNES title. Only it's about 1/40th the adventure. I picked it up last night and with minimal effort finished it this morning. I'd highly recommend this to anyone with about an hour of spare time.

### 1/5 — I didnt even want this game

*2014-11-10, version 1.1*

I hit the button and it auto payed for it didnt even ask me for my pass word i want my money back

### 1/5 — Terrible game

*2013-03-23, version 1.1*

First there is not even a variety of things you can do nor is there really any variety in game play. Basically when you enter the game there is only 1 way to go 3 or 4 spells max you can use and like 3 bosses total total waste of money spent.

### 1/5 — Short games

*2013-02-15, version 1.1*

It's a great game but there are only two towns and 4 or 5 Dungeons so if you like short games its a great game

### 1/5 — NineHoursLater

*2011-08-16, version 1.1*

This game won't be worth it even if it were free, first off it's a cheap rip-off of a SNES game "7th Saga" second, it's very short. I tried spending some time lvling up and still beat it at lvl 11. I'd suggest catching up on sleep over playing this garbage.

### 1/5 — Miserable Rpg

*2011-07-14*

Maximal 1 stern.

### 1/5 — Wayyy to short... 

*2011-05-31, version 1.0*

Keeps freezing on me when fighting end boss.  so I can't finish the game. Everything about game is easy. Not fun. Skills are boring. Lacks any real story. Would be good if story continued after final boss. Like if there was a better plot that thickened. Music and sound are terrible. Controls are basic and boring. Dungeon mazes are simple and short. No animations either. Equipment lacks and level up system is beyond basic. Not worth a buck.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great classic SNES style RPG.

*2018-02-25*

A truly “classic” RPG, similar to those found on the SNES or even PS1. I love RPGs of this style. This has a good story, great graphics, and a solid fighting system.

### 5/5 — 7 Stories

*2012-11-23, version 1.1*

I love the graphics, story and the music of the game. NEED A SAVE IN THE MENU. THANK FOR THE ATTENTION.
Keep the good work make a sequel.!!!

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2011-07-08, version 1.1*

This is an amazing game, I loved the story line and I loved all the characters and the different skills they could possess. And how each character had a different story and different goals at the beginning but it became one goal to find the orbs.

I definitely wish that it was long or that there were other games similar to this. I loved the ending of the game as well.

This game style reminds me of the pc game Aveyond! :)

I really recommend this game! :D

### 5/5 — Amazing game!

*2011-06-02, version 1.0*

Engaging story, unique characters, dynamic battle system. A must buy for any RPG fan! Can't wait for the sequel.

### 5/5 — Too short!!

*2011-05-25*

Cmon plz add more story line plzplzplz and make it into more of it's own game rather thAn coppying off of final fantasy!!!! Good game overall but needs lots more effort and who knows if u make u make it better I will tell all of my friends about it

### 5/5 — AWESOME GAME!

*2011-05-22, version 1.0*

Loved it! Wish it could have been a longer game though.

### 5/5 — A grand game! Tons of replay value!

*2011-05-22, version 1.0*

This is a throwback to Final Fantasy VI and just as fun. Tons of great story, action, and replays!

### 5/5 — wished it was longer

*2011-05-21, version 1.0*

Great Game. Pretty humorous. WIsh it was longer.

A sequel or second act (update) would be cool.

I got about 1-2 hours of gameplay per dollar, but I really soaked up some time getting all the abilities and 'hidden content.'

If you've got the money to spend and are looking for a good experience, and not hours and hours of repetition that you get from the sim and arcade games: I definitely recommend this one.

can't wait for the next one.

### 5/5 — Loved it but short

*2011-05-21, version 1.0*

Great game that reflects the RPG's of the 80's like "Breath of Fire" or "Lunar: Silver Star Story"! Just wish it was longer-I am hopeful for a second game down the road :)

### 5/5 — First impressions...pretty good so far!

*2011-05-20*

Technical stuff:
- It takes about 5 seconds to startup on my iPod Touch 4g, so it isn't bad in that respect.
-does not have fast app switching support-- reloads each time you go out of the app, regardless of multitask.
-it does, however, automatically save on a regular basis.
-It's not quite retina display optimized, but the graphics are clean enough so that you hardly notice it (see screenshots).
-The D-pad is a tad on the small size. It's okay for me (i have a small frame/i'm pretty skiny), but it might be harder for others. There is no option to change placement/size of the dpad.
-There is a slight pause on your character anytime you press "A". May or may not affect gameplay.

Gameplay:
-Looks like a your typical JRPG style game.
-The premise is also typical JRPG-- some king is retiring, so he calls seven heroes to his castle to help find four orbs of power.
-There are seven different heroes, each with a different background and personality. You start with one which you choose.
-Along your journey, you encounter the other heroes and they each have different things to say to you based on who you are, which is kind of neat. According to in-game dialogue, some of them may join you eventually.
-Some pretty good music. Definitely above average. It may even be memorable with time.
-There are hidden items
-It has a menu battle system like the Final Fantasy games. The menu is on the right-hand side of the screen. Unfortunately, there is no setting to change it to left. There is also no touch/slash control like in Ash, but battles move fast enough.
-My character walks just a little too slow for my taste. You might get impatient with it haha.

So far, based on the pretty good production values, I'd say it's worth picking up. The dialogue is solid. The one major flaw of this is that it's only 3-4 hours to beat :( You can play through again with other characters, but it's almost the same each time. Still worth a few bucks, though.
