OnCue Monitoring Software for Kohler Generators
I enjoy having the ability to monitor the activity of the generator, and have confirmation that the weekly exercise period has been started & completed. It’s also another way for me to monitor if the electrical utility has had a failure, causing the generator to run. The only thing that I want to eliminate is the three+ years of activity that cannot be erased from the app. Have been using the software for 3 years.

Embarrassing Technology
Koehler should be embarrassed by how poor their technology is. Being in the tech industry, including User focused cloud applications, its like Kohler doesn’t test their technology. Simple things just don’t work - or don’t work consistently, and you never know if its broken or the service down. Additionally, I’m not sure what industry they hire out of, but their app and technology is incredibly NOT user focused.
Thank goodness this is a nice to have feature and you don’t have to rely on it for anything. If you did, Kohler generators would be going out of business - though I did recently read an article about poor quality control of Kohler generators. Maybe QA of manufacturing and QA of tech report to the same person.
In today’s world, they should simply be embarrassed. Kohler - hire some decent people to your tech team. You’ve had long enough to get this right...and you still haven’t.

OnCue Plus Needs Work
Don’t waste your money!
Ever since I connected the OnCue Plus system to my 20RESA Kohler generator I have been sporadically receiving the following message:
“The OnCue Plus Server cannot communicate with the generator @@@@@@@, serial number @@@@@@@. This will not prevent the generator from providing power in case of utility power loss; however, no messages will be sent until communication with the OnCue Plus server is restored.”
Unplugging and than replugging the wireless OnCue Plus system temporarily restores the connection... but rarely for any substantial length of time. Very frustrating to say the least.
I’ve tried disconnecting the battery and shutting off all power to the generator and controller to no avail. After reconnecting everything again, my effort was successful for about two days, after which the OnCue Plus system started sending the same error messages again.
I’ve reached out to Kohler for help a few times... and I continue to hope they can help resolve my problems once and for all. If that happens I will upgrade my “zero” star rating for the OnCue Plus system and post the solution for others having the same problem to use.

Early review
Only a couple months into ownership. Did lose the connection to iPhone once. Read about all the work others did. In the house, just unplugged OnCue system and it reconnected automatically and has worked fine since then.
Have had one power outage and I received all the information needed.

Useful but lacking in several key capabilities
A must-have if you have a Koehler generator but... it’s lacking several key capabilities that would make it so much more useful.
1. You cannot set the controller time from OnCue. You have to get the key and go to the generator.
2. You cannot set or reset the exercise time from OnCue. You have to get the key and go to the generator. If you remotely start the generator, that becomes the new exercise start time and resets the exercise interval.
3. You cannot see the output current of the generator.
4. You cannot read the engine oil pressure. At least on the 20RESA - just the oil temperature and the temperature is not even close to accurate.
5. It randomly looses the network connection and will not always reconnect without a hardware reset which requires removing AC power and disconnecting the genset battery. Then it will immediately reconnect but this is a lot of effort and could be fixed in the controller firmware.
I’m a retired electrical engineer with extensive experience in embedded control and software development - I know what I’m talking about here. As I said, it’s a must-have but it could be a lot better.

Zero Stars
I've had this app for several years and it rarely works (can't see my generator). After a lot of trial and error it seems I can reestablish communication by updating firmware. This requires taking a laptop outside and physically connecting it to the generator. So it seems the engineers are changing things that cause communications to fail without warning owners that they need to update or things will stop working. So frustrating. A simple email saying "a breaking change is being made, please update your firmware" would be nice. Even better, hire developers that understand backward compatibility. This is not a new problem, it's been the situation for years. And to think I paid extra for the option to connect to my smartphone. Not sure how a large company can get away with this for so many years. Email support is worthless.

OK, BUT
This app gives you the basic information required to monitor your generator but could be a lot better.
The information supplied is somewhat cryptic and convoluted in its presentation.
It is also lacking information. My unit has load shedding capacity, but even with the amperage transducer hooked up it won't give a reading of the power being used or the percentage of power being used even though there is a space for both of these readings as part of the app.
All in all, it could be a lot better.

Handy App
One of the deciding factors in choosing Kohler was its connectivity and tech offerings. This app does everything you want in remaining in contact with your generator while away.
