  • Hidden cheesy Analytics Data toggle

App itself is alright, great interface, detection is good but can be improved further.

The only problem I have is with the Send Analytics Data option. Usually Apps put it in options/settings even if its defaulted to send data. At least they are open about it.

Scanbot however, much to my disappointment, hide it in ios settings(Settings -> Scanbot ->Analytics).

People don’t usually don’t look there, I only discovered it by reading the Privacy Policy(I suppose they have to mention it there for legal purpose). The app itself does not mention such toggle whatsoever.

It’s a weird design choice to say the least, cheesy, even ungenuine to say the worst.

  • Just awesome

Dabbled in a few of these programs but this one is the best

Hey Utluna, thanks a lot for the positive review! :)
  • Poor decision moving to the subscription model!

So we get to keep the Pro features which have been released prior to 9.0 update - any new ones are being a subscription paywall. £6.99 it cost to get the Pro, and now it’s devalued even more.

Should have been clearer about moving to the subscription model and grandfathered old customers to the new model - but instead of asking us to pay MORE (discount for the first year of subscription aside), those who paid should be given all the features and only new customers to pay the subscription fee, as they will not have the option to do one-off anymore.

It is a good app and I will continue using it, but only because I already paid for it and there is nothing better around - which won’t be for long as more features will be only for subscribers... Would not recommend it to new customers, unless they are 100% fine with paying the yearly subscription.

Edit: So the devs don’t care so long as I’ll be using Scanbot? Looks like the app AND customer service is going downhill then. Ripping people off who paid £6.99 for ONE app, or rather few extra features. What a joke.

Hi there! Thanks a lot for your feedback. Great to hear that you'll keep using Scanbot anyway :) Kind regards Aylin
  • Scanner

Most recent version requires in-app purchase of subscription / substantial price increase.

Previously reviewed as a completely off-line resident scanner with no subscription fees and privacy. Install the free app and use in-app purchases for lite - ocr, search, and annotate; pro - ocr, search, annotate, automatic perspective correction, filters, qr/bar codes; or vip - update the free version to pro with a second pro license useable with ios or andriod devices. Excellent support.

Hi there! Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a great review. I'm happy to hear that you enjoy using Scanbot this much :) Kind regards Aylin
  • Works well

Great app works equally as well as the other many options in the App Store. However, I would advise you avoid this one as they’re now going down the subscription route... better to support another developer that doesn’t want you to pay $35 a year to get updates. IMO.

Hey! Thanks for your positive feedback. The subscription model isn't for everyone of course :) Kind regards Aylin
  • Subscription

I Bought this app few months ago when it had a one time purchase system. Now they changed it to yearly purchase system and I thought I again need to purchase it from the beginning.... But they assured me that the features for which I had paid months ago will still be available and I only have to pay for newly added features through yearly subscription..... I am relieved. Thank you 🙏

Hey Jasper, Thanks for your review of Scanbot. Don't worry! We did not take away any features from you! You can still use all of the old Pro Features that you unlocked earlier, from text recognition to automatic upload everything except for the new Scanbot 9 Features is still available in the app. You can skip the subscription if you don't want these new additions and just stick to the old Pro Features without paying. More information about our thought process and reasoning can be found in our new blog post (https://scanbot.io/blog/about-the-new-scanbot-subscription-and-our-thoughts-behind-it/). You can find an overview of the features each option includes here: https://scanbot.io/learn-more-about-the-subscription. Best regards Christoph
  • My go-to scanning app for years

If you’re looking for more than the basic scanning Notes app can do for free such as:

    * OCR your text to search later
    * auto-recognise and take actions on contact info
    * auto-upload to cloud services
    * auto name or prepend your files with date&time
    * create separate workflows you use over and over

Scanbot is one of your BEST options!

Definitely worth supporting the developers if you can, this app has been continually updated over the years and they immediately fixed a bug in the most recent major update that took my Pro features away like OCR.

Hey again, thanks so much for your updated and detailed review of our app! Happy we were able to help you. :) Best, Lucas
  • Great app

Works better than any of the many I’ve tried. Well worth the cost!

Only problem is ‘send images’ has a bug where it only sends one image, not all. PDFs work fine but not useful to me.

(Auto-fixing book page warp would be great down the track too! No idea if possible)

Hey there, Thanks for the feedback! Can you reach out to us via email to support@scanbot.io and elaborate a bit on the error with the image sharing? Thanks in advance Bennet
  • What OCR? And subscription to get new features!

Great ripoff. Pay for the app, think you’ll get regular updates with new features, but surprise! You paid for an app which will never get new features unless you keep paying.

Also, it has never successfully read any document. It tells me it found nothing when I hold my phone over text, then tells me to snap a picture manually. What’s the point of claiming it has OCR?

  • Subscription Model Isn’t for Everyone

Just bought this app about a month ago along with Unfade, part of the reason I chose these apps was no subscription. Honestly I feel a bit put off now, like I was tricked (yes, I understand that I haven’t lost any features).

Well, I completely understand that $0.99 or even $4.99 doesn’t cover the development cost of a high quality app such as Scanbot I would really like to see a standalone version of the app for around half of the subscription price.

Not a huge fan of the subscription model, I have enough bills monthly adding a scanning app to the mix is not appealing at all. Honestly, $29.99 a year for a scanning app is a big ask....like huge when you can buy a scanner for around $100 and not be tied into a subscription model.

Lastly, the way this transition has been handled hasn’t been great. Many users such as myself updated to the newest version to be present with this new payment system. What should have happened is 9.0 should have been it’s own separate release to separate this massive change in policy.

I hope this is a learning experience for the developer and moving forward they will consider allowing a one time payment for each major release as well as providing the subscription model for those who prefer it. At $29.99 a year I’m afraid I’m going to probably bow out at some point, it’s just to much for an app that scans documents (something that to some degree is already built into iOS notes). I think $14.99 is a more reasonable price point and fair to users and the developer.

On a side note, after poking around the AppStore I noticed that there’s a $99.99 version of Scanbot Pro and a $9.99 version of Unfade (Photo Scanner) Pro - are these one time buy apps with upgrades for life? This is another example of how confusing your revenue model is for your users and it’s not explained at all on your website (at least I can’t find anything). Love some insight from the developer on these versions.

    Thanks.

Hey there, Thanks a lot for your honest and very detailed feedback! While the transition definitely has not been smooth, we learned a lot and will make sure that we will communicate such changes differently in the future. Having 9.0 as a separate release would've resulted in an old app that we would not have been able to support with security updates and bug fixes though. If you have any questions, please let us know via email to support@scanbot.io. Best regards Bennet
