  • A pale comparison to Apollo

Switched to this from Apollo and it lacks many of the features that I have taken for granted from Apollo. Swiping to go back has no adjustment so your constantly accidentally replying or saving comments. Scrubbing through a video will often cause the app to freeze or become unresponsive (an issue that seems to be over a year old). App will randomly crash while minimized or completely refresh. No way to mute videos other than physically turning down the volume.

When this app inevitably changes to a subscription model, there would be no way for me to justify spending any amount of money on something that doesn’t even live up to the quality of Apollo.

  • Love the app

Has all features the Reddit app doesn’t have and isn’t a nightmare to use like the reddit app.

Only feature it is missing is the ability to swipe through posts. In this app you have to exit every post snd click on the next one.

One annoying thing with this app too is that when you click on a post with a video or gif it doesn’t open the full video. So on every post you have to click the post, then click the video, then click off the video to get comments and finally click to exit the post. Overall it takes to much time to navigate posts.

  • Came from Apollo

Let me start by saying I can’t from using Apollo. I probably won’t ever use the Reddit official app, so I’m glad this exists, but the user experience is so abysmal…it’s like the programmers never uses the app themselves.

Example: clicking on a link to a video, opens with the video only taking up half the screen, so you have to click on it to get it full screen. Then the play controls are extremely limited, play pause only, no sound controls etc. then when you try to go back to the thread you have to click a link to load comments…what the heck is this? It’s not intuitive AT ALL. I have no idea how to subscribe to a subreddit, how to share anything, mark individual posts read…

Just go through and use the app, it’s really not good

  • Use as last resort

I don't know what up with the ratios. This app is not designed well, flat out. The gestures are unintuitive, and really seems more like devs won't let a whiteboard idea die than make a well functioning UI. Besides that, it is a warren of half baked design ideas. For crying out loud, the logo is a button to switch between light and dark mode.... who needs that?!?! Why replace a standard UI feature like the logo being a home button with something people absolutely do not need instant access to....

Besides all that, its riddled with bugs. Gestures constantly skip around the screen, causing you to execute the command you were trying to do on a completely different post. Ads just... open your browser for no reason even when you can't see them.

    Its a mess.

  • Horrible UI

This app could be so great. Could being the word of day here. The UI is awful. Straight awful. The posts on Reddit is on your left. So you would normally use your left hand to navigate. Simple enough. So how to change your subreddit you are in. Use your right hand to open a menu, scroll down, now select a different subreddit. Now back to left hand. But if you dare swipe back in the left menu. Start all over with the right hand. Why on earth am I feeling like I’m playing a mobile game to navigate an app? If going navigating Reddit on the left, than have ALL parts of navigation on the left. Go to the settings. Right side. Now the settings menu is centered. Oh good lord.

  • Never mind, overhearing back

07 Aug 2022 - Overheating is back again, was just using the app for about 30 minutes and felt it through my case. I use an Apple silicone case so it isn’t very thick. Hot to the touch after taking the case off. Previous update and original review follows: Overheating issues were fixed. Developer commented that it was due to bad banner ads. I still have the other issues so not 5 stars but still the best experience I’ve found as most other unofficial Reddit apps that would measure up require you to buy the app to post or sign in with an account. Not giving those apps the time of day. Original review below for posterity: As of writing this (24 July 2022), the app is causing my phone to overheat. This started within the last 1-2 weeks. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max that’s up to date on the latest public iOS 15.6 (no beta channel). Sometimes it takes about 7-10 minutes, other times it’s noticeable within just a few minutes. App is also up to date. Not sure what’s causing the issue. Going to check out other apps because I’ve had assorted smaller issues (GIFs playing slower than they should be, accidentally triggering gestures while scrolling). It’s not every iPhone that these issues happen to as my roommate uses the same app on an iPhone 12 and doesn’t have the overheating or GIF issue.

  • Usually excellent

I would give this 5 stars (even with adds at bottom of app), but over the last month or two certain adds have been causing a huge amount of issues with crashing and locking up the app.

I’ll have no issues until the add pops up then it will have little to no input response. Seeing input lag when commenting on posts, will also see reduction in phone performance for about 10 seconds after closing app or crash. (For devs: Specifically the adds with a little v in the top left corner. On iPhone 13 pro.)

    5 stars otherwise.

  • Was a great app

I’ve been using it since like, 2015, and today, with a much more powerful phone, this app just chugs-in a bad way. Old phone: iPhone 5c. Current phone: Xr. This is ridiculous.

I finally got sick of my upvote swipes upvoting comments and posts I didn’t intend, and keyboard freezing and lagging, and this being the only app that made my phone overheat like this so I deleted the app, finally. Probably won’t be downloading it again.

The last time an app made my phone chew through battery and overheat like this was Polemon Go. Ask me if I still have that installed, two years after deleting it.

  • Slipping in quality

Have used since 2016 and love this apps functionality more than any other Reddit app. It’s simple, efficient, and customizable without bloat. As of recent it has caused many issues in my phone such as not being able to play videos in other apps while this one is open. And worst of all causing my phone to overheat! Within 15 mins my phone is hot to the touch and won’t perform actions smoothly. It would be a terrible shame to have to find a new Reddit app so I hope they fix these optimization problems soon.

  • Needs more customization options and fewer bugs

For a couple weeks it seemed ok compared to clients that don’t even support multireddits, but it has bugs (such as in the video player) and there is no way to disable swiping from the left on comments so it constantly activates the functionality there when I want to go back to the previous page. They say the reason they don’t make it optional is that it’s a gesture-based app, but so are Apollo and Slide. Not only do Apollo and Slide allow you to disable swiping from the left on comments, they also have fewer bugs and much nicer user interfaces.
