  • Still good

I used this a few years ago but stopped because the video player had a lot of issues and I think some other things. It runs much smoother and better now. The only problem I have is with the “hide all”/“hide read”/“mark all as read”. If you hide everything with or w/o marking as read, and refresh, everything you just hid is now unbidden. So hours of scrolling through things and then hiding all of that simply so it doesn’t show up yet again, only for *all* of it to show up again. It happens if you leave the app for awhile and come back as well.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU for giving the ability to filter subs. I get so sick of seeing the exact same ones over and over on r/all and ones that I have no understanding of (like fandoms I’m not a part of).

EDIT**** now I remember why I deleted Narwhal. The “hide all” feature doesn’t work either as intended or as expected. It’s *so* frustrating when 100s of posts you specifically didn’t want to see again show up AGAIN AND AGAIN. I don’t mean to be harsh, it’s a great app. It’s just that one thing that ruins it for me.

  • One of the best apps I’ve found, but some major issues

I love using this app. It feels much cleaner and streamlined than the main Reddit app, and feels more like old reddit than anything else.

My biggest concern, and why this app is 3 stars rather than 4, is that recently ads have become much more invasive. I don’t mind the banner ads that are occasionally at the bottom, or ads occasionally between posts while scrolling. What has become invasive is that there are now auto-play video ads that randomly take over the screen. They also sometimes open a browser and redirect to an ad page without being clicked. This is unacceptable and has caused me to research using another third party app or even switching to the native Reddit app.

    More minor issues I have:

    - lack of support for reading wikis and sidebars through the app instead of in-app browser.

    - lack of ability to add flair to posts or view user flairs as icons in comments

  • A great Reddit app, needs an update

The swipe feature alone makes this a must have. I’ve tried the other apps and I keep coming back to this one.

Unfortunately it isn’t the best. Several key features are missing, force me to use the official Reddit app (and that thing is awful). Some comment threads won’t load, no cross posts, no awards and no mute/unmute options. If the devs could fix those, this could be the definitive iOS Reddit app.

Also want to note: video links from commenters are auto-muted when previously they were not.

  • Best Reddit app period

This would be a 5 star review if their search function wasn’t absolutely horrid. You can’t look up an individual subreddit without having to dig through a bunch of other subs that aren’t relevant to your search. Give us the ability to look up a specific sub we want to join and this is an easy 5 star review.

Besides that, it’s got the best upvote/downvote swipes and being able to click on a post and read the comments while checking out the post is amazing.

Please just improve the search function.

  • Almost perfect

I think this app is one of the best ways of browsing reddit on my iPad. However, there is one complain I have: The left sidebar, where you scroll through the list of posts in a sub, is just too narrow.

There is the <-> icon at the top of the screen, but, from what I can tell, it can only be used to make the comments section on the right even bigger, but there is no way to make the topic section on the left any bigger than a narrow bar. Since every post title takes up multiple vertical lines, you can see fewer of them on the screen at once, and it takes a lot more scrolling to get through a sub than it would if there was a way to make the list wider (so that each topic takes up only one).

    I would like to see:

    - An option to at least split the screen 30/70, 50/50, or 70/30, between the topics list and comments view. This could be done by simply adding a couple more buttons at the top, near the existing one.

    - And/or I think it would be nice to be able to use a horizontal 2 finger swipe gesture to slide the divider back and forth (essentially doing what the <-> is doing, only adding the ability to 2-finger swipe to the right to shrink comments and expand topics list).

    - An option or button to set it so that the posts/topics list takes up a majority of the screen while you’re scrolling through it, until you tap on a post, which will automatically expand the article/comments side of the screen.

  • Best reddit app I’ve found.

I’m not one to leave a review typically, but this app is my most used by far and it deserves praise. The most used functions of reddit such as browsing and sorting through posts and comments are nicely designed and intuitive to navigate on both my iPhone and iPad. Though there are a multitude of options in menus and sub menus that I personally found confusing at times, there is no doubt you can make the app as simple or complex as you’d like. Signing into my reddit account was easy and has me replying to comment threads or scrolling through my favorite subs in no time. The developers constantly make minor tweaks and subtle improvements that keep the app running smooth as silk. My only gripe is going through my comment history and not being able to pull up the original post from my comment alone, but rather I would have to select the OP’s profile and scroll through to the post to open it. A minor inconvenience that I don’t feel warrants a less than 5-star review from me. Overall, if you’re looking for a great reddit browser for your iPhone or iPad, look no further than Narwhal.

  • used to love it.

i loved this app for years and used it religiously, but lately it’s become too difficult. gifs with audio should be pretty standard by now but narhwal doesn’t play them in-app. the video player is constantly breaking and glitching out, right now it won’t play any audio with videos. the version history shows only occasional bug fix updates, but this app desperately needs a rebuild (as was teased 2 years ago) and new feature set in order to stay relevant to what’s actually happening on reddit. i would love to come back if a true new version ever ends up releasing but until then, i’m switching to Apollo.

  • One of my most-used apps

Great app. I enjoy the gesture-based navigation.

However, there seems to be a bug with one of the gestures right now, where the “swipe from right” gesture doesn’t work while the scroll bar is visible on the screen. It’s actually quite an annoying bug, since I use that gesture so much. If I hadn’t been using this app for so long already (with all my preferred options, etc) I might choose another app for my reddit usage solely based on that.

  • I can’t do it anymore

I am so done with this app. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been my go-to Reddit app for the longest time. But I can’t handle it’s inability to play video anymore. I cannot count the amount of times I’ve had to exit a post and re-enter to try and get it to play a video clip. I’m sorry devs, I can’t do it anymore. I’m off to Apollo or even the official app. When and if you fix video to the point where it consistently plays, I’ll be back in a heartbeat. I’ve invested years in using this app and it genuinely hurts to move to another. But enough is enough.

  • Among the best reddit apps on iOS

Smooth. Really clean interface. Love the full screen aspect of it.

Couple of things I wish they’d add. Please let us have a better report function that allowed us to say why we are making a report. Also wish we could type a word in subreddit search and have it display all the subs with that word. Makes finding niche subs much easier.

Hope those come in a future update. Keep up the great work guys!
