  • Like the app but the buyer fees are ridiculous

    I like the app. It’s pretty easy to list items and I like being able to find things I’m looking to buy not easily found other places. However the added buyer fees are ridiculous! As someone who sells and buys I would rather have the selling fees then placing that responsibility on the buyer. The buyer looks at the cost of item and by the time they check out and shipping, service fee, processing fee, and tax has been added that $10 item is now $20. Or even worse. It’s hurting sales. People are looking elsewhere to spend their money and it’s forcing sellers to greatly reduce the price of their items. You should remove the buyer fees and go back to the old selling fees. My only other issue is the lack of repercussions for anyone on the app. There are lots of people with ridiculously high cancelation rates. I’ve personally dealt with people who repeatedly “sell” items they don’t have and then cancel the order on the last day they have available to ship it, then relist. They do this over and over again. I’m not sure the end game other then maybe making it look like their sale numbers are higher then they actually are. Nothing is done other then a warning way down the page once the person hits a 50% cancelation rate. I notice they usually use sought after new and popular items to do this with. Also happening are alot of stock or stolen photos and listings for items they’ve ordered but aren’t in their possession.

  • Hate/Love

    I had been selling on mercari a few years and loved it. I slowly stopped once i went back to work. Recently i started back up and sold over 2k in a couple weeks. I was thrilled and even tho you’re only allowed to take out $600 a month i figured i just buy bday/xmas gifts on there with the rest of the credit giving the cite business since i had been happy with them. I ordered a dyson submarine vacuum before i had made all these sales so i used partial credit and the rest on my credit card. However I never received the item. USPS claimed item was left in/or around the mailbox. How on earth is a vaccumm going to fit in a mailbox? and why would they leave it around it if we live in a area where all mailboxes are at the corner of the street. We have a ring camera and it doesn't show anyone delivering. I contacted mercari with the issue and they said to contact the carrier, they were not responsible. I disputed the charge on my credit card because after all the money went to them. Now mercari has locked my account since i desputed the charge. Theres over 2k in credit and i had just shipped about 1k worth of stuff. I have tried contacting them and just get the runaround. I even contacted my credit card and try to undo the dispute which you can not. Im so stressed and mad at myself for trusting a site. Hoping someone else has answers for me!

  • 𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕔𝕒𝕣𝕚 𝕀𝕟𝕧𝕚𝕥𝕖 ℂ𝕠𝕕𝕖- 𝔼𝕌ℝ𝕄𝕐𝔸 Amazing app!

    Okay so I've been using this app for YEARS. I have made a couple thousand dollars on everything I've sold. I mainly buy and resell clothing but some electronics too since I manage a phone store. When you sell something please be aware that you do not receive payment until the item is received by the buyer and they have inspected and given you a rating. After you receive a rating you then rate the buyer as well. The ratings are kind of nice but once in awhile you will run into a buyer who is just an a hole and gives you a 1 star because it took you an extra day to ship the item. (Yes it's happened to me a couple times.) I blocked them and refuse to sell to them again. When buying stuff please look at the other persons profile. Read the reviews they have been given and how many listings they have. You can also see when the last time they posted an item was to determine if they are still active. If the buyer doesn't rate you within a couple days then mercari team will automatically give you a 5 star with no comment. When selling please make sure to take good quality photos. And please make a detailed description of the item. Trust me, you don't want the item showing up different than you described it.

    Overall this is the best app I have used to sell and buy items. The only thing I wish they would improve is maybe a live agent to talk to instead of waiting days for an email about your issues.

  • Easy to use, but most issues fall on seller

    I’ve been using this app for years and have made a decent amount of money on my used items I’ve also spent a good amount on purchases from here. I would have to say that from the perspective of seller you totally get the short end of the stick. The fees just keep climbing, an unwarranted low rating for a sale with no merit is permanent, and they will not remove it. A real time example is when I sold a Harry Potter Lego set in my description I clearly stated the box it’s self had been damaged in storage and. The buyer left me a two star rating saying the item was great in excellent condition and was shipped fast but the box was damaged so they gave me that rating considering I had only sold about 5 items at that point it move my 5 star to a 4.5 I reached out to support to ask them to remove it using my original post that had !pictures! of the damage I specifically listed on post with **read before purchasing ** at the very first line of description and I was told that they would not be able to remove it and nothing could be done about it which I found incredibly unfair my page did not make another sale for several months after that with so many sellers anything less then Five stars does not fair well I ended up deleting my account and starting new all because of one person and I had a lot of items that I had to manually relist one by one which is very frustrating and time consuming.

  • Has a major flaw…..the pre shipment label

    Mercari is fine usually , but several times now I have encountered a seller who will simply create a pre shipment label for the item I purchased without sending the item. Mercari then sends me an email saying “get excited your items on the way” , even though the item hasn’t been dropped off at the post office. The seller then has 15 days to drop the item off. Your only recourse is to “request” a cancellation from the seller , who already is using a loophole in the system to trick Mercari , and even if they don’t reply they still have the full 15 days to take their time and mail the item. If the seller doesn’t send your item after 15 days then yes you can get a refund from Mercari , which can take up to 10 days to be back in your account. So 3 weeks or so after you placed an order you get your payment back. And once you get a refund they consider the transaction closed & there’s no way to leave a review for that seller to let people know they may or may not get something if you order from this person. It seems that Mercari has set things up to make sure the sellers don’t get in trouble for not honoring a sale and shipping the item. The person that made me go through this last hassle , who had a 5 star rating , simply re-listed the exact same item for a higher price. I will probably still use Mercari as it is a good place to find collectibles , but not happy with this aspect of the service.

  • Going downhill fast

    I have been using this app for years. The customer service is abysmal the way they deal with customers and sellers as I am both is horrible. Shipping is insane they will blame the post office and say that they are in line with everyone else but they aren’t they are greedy and want more and more of your money while not understanding that it is killing their business. On one of the main pages it states for you the seller to price your items competitively which is hard to do when you are looking at insane fees. A t shirt four to seven ounces costs $7.40 to ship which makes it not even worth it to sell most items anymore. Other apps ship that same shirt for 4.50 or so and then you can bundle for another two or so until a few items become free to ship. I have been a seller and buyer for years have spent a ton more than I earned and still don’t have instant payout. I have to wait sometimes a very long time before being paid out other apps have this pretty early on. They also unlike other apps charge after the fact if the box you used to ship items makes your package weigh a little more. Other apps give you five shipping forgiveness tickets a month this comes in great if you want to ship your customer a little something to say thank you maybe an extra shirt or something along those lines. Again I haven’t used the app in quite a while due to these reasons it’s sad cause I used to buy multiple things a week.

  • Used to rate Mercari as the best but…

    Now they’ve added features to the app that I absolutely do not like. Firstly, they raised their shipping rates which affect both the buyers and sellers. With the amount of volume that is shipped out through the app, I know for certain that they can renegotiate better rates even with postal rate increases. Instead they pass it on to us. To boot it always defaults to the carrier with the highest option to ship (UPS) so I’m sure they're getting paid on the back end, making a profit off it. For those of us who have our own accounts with USPS and Federal Express, we should still have the option to use our own carrier accounts to ship. The sellers and buyers are helping keep the USPS and other carriers employed & busy so the rates should be lower. The app used to let us ship on our own, now our only option is to use the carrier and rates that they have defaulted. Some of us can get better rates than what they offer. Seems like the bigger an app gets, the greedier they become. On top of that, they now make “recommendations” for sales prices to sellers as we post an item, then if it’s not what they think it should be they say “slow sale”…no one needs their input. They’re getting a portion of the sale amount so why should they care what we price things at. It’s an unnecessary and annoying feature. I like the old Mercari much better.

  • Shipping costs

    That app is overall good and easy to use, however it does lack some areas. The first thing Is shipping costs, especially with USPS. They claim it’s discounted shipping but eBay, Pirateship and Facebook marketplace all have better shipping costs specifically in the up to 1 pound Category and don’t option for a 12oz package. They must not be passing all the discounts onto their customers and keeping some. Another thing is your conversations are AI monitored. You mention Facebook or a website and you get a warning and conversation deleted. You also can’t look up usernames so if you stumble upon someone and like what they have make sure to follow them or you’ll never find them again. You don’t get paid until people rate you which could hurt a lot of sellers but it doesn’t bother me much. There’s really no way to dispute a rating and some people just hate life so they give you a not so nice rating for no apparent reason. Getting paid could be easier. eBay has direct deposit daily and it is a nice feature. Here you basically have an account and they hope you spend more of it before you eventually cash out. Fees are ok but when you’re selling very cheap items your basically paying 20 something plus percent because they charge an extra 50 cents for every transaction on top of the 2.9% processing fee and 10 percent commissions.

    I’m so happy that I joined Mercari to sell my things !! I buy and resell expensive items and sell them to customers for a fair price !! I also love the new changes Mercari has made on the app!! Thanks to Mercari I am officially a full time seller!!

    Now the downfall of selling on Mercari is that there are customers who unfairly give you a bad rating. And you can’t read the review first before rating them back, so you go and give the buyer an excellent review. This is so unfair because you’re not given the chance to defend yourself and your left with a bad rating that was given to you unfairly.

    Mercari really needs to work on this it really would be nice if they can allow us s to read the reviews from the buyer first before giving our review explaining our situation. I’m a perfectionist and getting a bad review unfairly affects my ability to sell my items . Of course nobody is perfect but I do check my items thoroughly before posting them for sale. sometimes I’ll make a minor mistake with an item . But when it comes to other items like makeup or clothing I check it thoroughly before categorizing it . Some costumers that buy from you are sellers too and they know what it means to have a five star review. So again please Mercari I’m begging you fix this problem thank you.
