  • Much improved

The horrendous performance and synch problems of a few years ago seem to be firmly in the past now (although I eventually had to delete all my previous entries and start again from scratch to get the app to function again even after the bug fixes went in as my existing data seemed to have been irreparably corrupted somehow which was a little annoying) but I’ve had no trace of a problem with the old creeping slowdown horrors since. I can recommend the app almost unreservedly now and am glad I didn’t abandon it completely as I almost did, with the only real proviso being that it would be nice to be able to create my own permanent categories without, for example, having to type out “Groceries” or “Parking” manually every time I buy same.

Hi Thanks for updating your review. Can you make sure both your devices are updated. Turn off iCloud sync for both. Turn on for one, let it sync, and then turn on for your other. This should get things going again. If this doesn't work, it may be that you have some corrupted data in your iCloud store - drop me an email at emile@getpennies.com and I'll guide you through restoring things! Cheers - Emile
  • Only budgeting app for me!

When I got to college, I tried every budgeting app I could find, but Pennies is the only one that has worked for me! It’s simple and straightforward to use and perfect for everyday budgeting. As someone who has fairly uncomplicated budgeting needs, Pennies has been perfect - I am able to conveniently input my expenses and easily see at a glance if I am spending appropriately. It has genuinely helped me improve my spending my habits!

  • Finally found a way to start saving

Tried a few of these spending tracking apps. This has been the one that has been so easy that I’ve been able to keep it up for over a year. Before I could not find the extra to put into savings even though I knew I had extra $. Since I’ve started using it I’ve not missed my savings goal at all. So blessed to have this app!!! This one is so simple to use that keeping it updated is doable so much more than the other apps I tried.

  • Doesn’t work anymore!!

Was really nice, but won’t open for some reason for a month now… i cant see my budget…. Meh. Fix this please…
  • Helps and works ok

Still testing it but it is helping well to budget. It’s easy to edit and this is useful as well. A pop up has become faulty recently asking for feedback where I’ve had to restart the app after clearing the cache/history 2-3 times. The daily amounts are confusing as I’ve chosen weekly budgets, and colours can’t be changed. I’ve found switching between spent and left frequently and maybe this could be combined. Everything else is good.

  • Sad that I have to leave this review

Sad that I have to leave this review. I love the design of the app and I would use it a lot. The problem is their iCloud syncing doesn’t work. I’ve tried messaging the creators through email to which they said they would get back to me within 48 hrs…. It’s been 3 weeks and they still haven’t responded. They only sent an automated email back in response with “frequently asked questions”.

All I want is for them to fix the iCloud issue and I’ll be happy to keep the app but for now I feel like I wasted my money cause I need it to sync between devices. Quite disappointed.

  • Brilliant

Brilliant budgeting app simple and easy to use. Needs to be developed to contain widgets. This feature would revolutionise things, it’s annoying not being able to see info at a glance and having to open the app every time. Other than that brilliant app really making a difference in my everyday expense tracking.

  • Helped me buy a wasp nest

I see what all the buzz is about.
  • Simple yet powerful

The *other* budget apps were too complex to be useful for my needs. Good info, I’m sure, but realistically I don’t have time to input all the data they need nor the time or skills needed to interpret their results.

*This* budget app, Pennies, I’ve found uniquely practical and useful where it counts. It connects me to my spending and my limits easily and in a visually useful way. Quick. Simple. Check it on the go. Keep it with me all the time.

It does one thing really well: monitor spending progress during the budget period (set by user) and warning you visually with colors when you approach or exceed defined limits. This quick glance system easily shows which budget categories I need to be careful with and slow down to meet my goals

In brief: I’ve tried on a number of apps but prefer this one because it is easy to input data and easy to read and monitor the results. I want it to do just a few things we’ll. Keep it simple. That it does.

  • Simple and Superior Budget App

I use Mint to keep track of my finances; it has a built-in budget generator and links with my bank account for constant updates. However powerful it may be, the app is extremely dense. It takes time to load and time to navigate to the budgeting section. Even then, the interface is crowded for the amount of information it tries to display! Pennies is ONLY a budgeting app. It JUST does budgets, but it does them flawlessly. It loads almost instantly on my iPhone, and the interface couldn't be easier or more pleasant to use. No, it doesn't link with my bank account. I view that as a strength. Pennies cuts away an extra layer of complication and vulnerable security. And by requiring that I manually enter my purchases, it makes me really think more about my spending habits. All in all, a stellar budgeting app.
