Excellent free accessible dictionary for a beginner

I’m learning Irish on duolingo , and for my purposes this dictionary serves me very well! Thank you!

Best Irish Dictionary

Excellent coverage with attention to idioms. Usually two spellings found, one with h and one without. Pronunciation also.

Italian?

Sounds like a heavy Italian accent
The idea is brilliant though

Pronunciation

I downloaded this app because of the added feature of word pronunciation. The Irish is awful. The voice sounds like a drunken Italian just guessing at Irish. As a dictionary, however, it’s very good.

Awful pronounciation

The Irish words are read out by a non-Irish voice and are pronounced completely wrong. Even the English words sound a bit dodgy. Also the app tries to directly translate phrases which don't mean the same in both languages

Not very good

The translator is European not Irish and pronounces a lot of the words wrong.

A lot of words in this aren't gaeilge, the grammar can be terrible. There is no k,y,q,w,y in the gaeilge alphabet yet there are a lot of words that have them letters here.

Not everything about the app is completely terrible but that translator definitely is. She takes no notice of the fádas whatsoever. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. I would not listen to or use a single translation that woman says, it is not gaeilge she is speaking, it sounds French or Spanish or something similar I am not sure?

Great to see an Irish translator in the App Store and hope it improves in the future!

Phrases

Phrases and idioms are the tough parts of this language. This ap seems to have them.

Best irish dictionary so far.

This irish dictionary really stand out among the 5 or 6 I have tried.

Especially for the simple look up of am Irish word to English and visa versa.

Toy do have to know a few spelling rules. But for the most part, I find Irish words without having to search all over the Internet.

I use this app exclusively die Irish dictionary when I am studying during lessons.

NOT Irish at all

You need to get a native speaker from A Ghaeltacht to pronounce all the words in this dictionary; otherwise, don't bother to have them pronounced at all. It's as if someone were trying to pronounce Vietnamese with a thick Russian accent and the person doing so claims to speak said Vietnamese.

Very strange Irish

Irish as spoken by a Vietnamese maybe?
