I’ve been critical of the free version of this app, but this morning I went out to photograph the sunrise based on the recommendation of this app when I looked at the weather and said it was gonna be cloudy. I figured oh God, another not worth it sunrise but boy was I wrong. It was a great sunrise well worth getting photos of so my opinion on this app has changed dramatically.Show lessneed406

Thanks so much for the review. Sorry it hasn't worked well in your case. I'm actively working on a few projects to hopefully improve the accuracy of forecasts provided by the app. Right now this data comes from a third party and is based on the NAM weather model in the US, if this weather model is incorrect then it can throw of the forecast for Sunrise/Sunset. I'm hoping to introduce real-world conditions from local weather stations to correct forecasts the closer to Sunrise/Sunset you get. Hope you'll check out Alpenglow again in the future once I have this in place.It’s never been accurate for me
It’ll say there’s going to be this utterly fantastic sunset. I’ll go out and it’s the worst more bland thing you’ve ever seen. Happens multiple times. Going to give it more chances since I’ve paid for it now…Andrew culley

Overall a really good app just one problem that constantly reoccurs, the app doesn’t remember my subscription and keeps telling me I need the Pro version to access certain features which I already have so I have to keep trying to restore purchases until it finally recognises it.Ryan.English

I got this app reccomended to me and I’ve got to say I love it, it’s quite cheap band has really helped me decide whreyer I should be lazy or go see the sunset the things I would change tho are giving a wider time frame for sunset bc I seen that the sunset is looking amazing 15-30mibs before the forecasted time. Another thing is putting a compass that works on the map so I don’t have to leave the app figure out how many degrees it was and go on my own compass app, and one last thing the gallery dosent seem to work on my phone but overall amazing appShow lessnatiiiiii101

Thanks so much for the review. With Alpenglow v9.0 you can now rotate the map to orientate it or tap on the user location button twice to activate the heading mode and have iOS orientate the map accordingly. The issues with the Gallery have also been solved with some more features and improvements on the way.Not bad but not great either
I have the free version and while I have been thinking about purchasing the pro version the other day, I went out to photograph a sunrise because the app said it was a 52% chance of a good sunrise. It was totally cloudy. There wasn’t even a glimmer of sun, this is happened to many times for it to be a one time event. I don’t know if the pro version is any better but the free version has made me not want to spend the money after I was seriously considering doing so $25 is a lot of money to spend to have an app that is wrong about 75 to 85% of the time. It’s not just wrong when it says it’s gonna be a good sunrise or sunset and it’s not. Otherwise, when it says it’s not going to be, but it ends up being a good sunrise or sunset. I give this app two stars. Sorry, hopefully the developer of this app can improve it so I can give it a higher.Show lessDeveloper Response

I was so excited after finding this app, but after almost a year of using it I’ve found it can do more harm than good. I cant tell you how many times I’ve seen Good or Great as the forecast a few days out that gradually get reduced to fair or poor. Seriously 90%+ of those that ive seen ended up dropping to fair or poor. Then on the flipside there have been some absolutely killer sunsets when the apps forecast said poor or fair.
What prompted me to write this was the other night. It had been raining all afternoon and was going to clear up about an hour before sunset, and more often than not thats a recipe for a crazy one. I left home but forgot my drone, was trying to decide whether I should turn around or go. Looked at the app and it said “20% poor.” Of course then I missed one of the best sunsets ive seen in this city with a crazy rainbow. Its my fault, my instinct was that it was going to be good but the app nudged me the other way.
My advice is to use this as a quick look to see what theyre forecasting, then check the weather yourself. If it rains all day and clears up towards the evening, be ready!Show lessAxilrod1

Sorry to hear Alpenglow led you to miss a good Sunset. I’m actively working on improvements to the forecasting as unfortunately weather forecasts themselves can be incorrect and sunrise and sunset forecasts are based on those which can throw things out. I’m also planning on adding some functionality to use local weather stations to use real world conditions closer to an event to determine whether to increase or decrease a prediction. Hope you see some improvements in the coming months.Not working
