Apollo has now closed down, this update pushes out a few fixes to make everything a bit nicer in that state, so explore around! - Adds ability to migrate your Apollo Pixel Pals to the new separate Pixel Pals app, and even includes a fun easter egg if you do so. If you're not familiar with Pixel Pals, it's a really fun app that lets you customize your iOS device with a variety of cute virtual pets. It'd really mean a lot to me if you checked it out and considered supporting it! - Added a bunch more wallpapers to the "Goodbye Apollo" Wallpaper Set. It's available in Settings, and is a great way to remember Apollo for years to come with some incredible wallpapers by the amazing designers who have created Apollo's icons over the years. - If you have time left on your subscription, you have the option to go to the Settings tab and decline the automatic refund. Developers pay refunds out-of-pocket, so your kindness and consideration would mean a lot to me there given how unexpected the last few weeks have been. Cancelling your subscription in the Settings app isn't enough, you also have to manually decline the refund in Apollo if you so choose. As the hour gets closer the app will change automatically to no longer being able to browse Reddit, but you'll still be able to open it and customize the home screen app icons with the over 100 incredible icons added over the years. Pixel Pals migration, wallpapers, merch, and more are also available, as well as the possibility of another fun easter egg revealing itself. I feel like I've said it a lot over the last few weeks, but I feel so, so fortunate that I've been able to build an app over the last 9 years alongside such an incredible community who helped me to shape the app for the better. I've met and talked with so many cool people, and the app is infinitely better than it was from the outset because of it. I'm heartbroken it's ending this way, but I've loved every minute of building this app for you folks and wouldn't have done a thing differently. Love y'all. - Christian

This update for Apollo includes a few important features: - Apollo closes on June 30th, if you have time left in your subscription, this update allows you to decline a refund on the remaining subscription time. If you don't decline the refund, you will automatically receive a pro-rated refund for the remaining time. If you've been happy with the service I've provided over the years, please consider declining the refund as they are refunded out-of-pocket. I thank you! - Added a "Goodbye Apollo" Wallpaper set. If you want to remember Apollo for years to come after its shut down date, and support its creator one last time, consider checking out the incredible set of Apollo themed wallpapers, created by talented designers who have built Apollo icons over the years. - I've unlocked all the icons in the app for everyone, and even added over a dozen new ones that I had planned to continue adding over the next year plus. Also themes are now available for all. I have another update coming for the end of the month that adds some additional cool features, so stick around and keep browsing until the curtain closes! If you're unclear about why Apollo is closing, Reddit recently announced some very, very expensive API prices for developers, and in combination with only providing 30 days to enact the changes, Apollo won't be able to afford continuing beyond Reddit's cutoff date of June 30th, 2023. There are more details in the ApolloApp subreddit if you're curious. As mentioned through the in-app announcements, it's been the pleasure of a lifetime building Apollo for you over the last 9 years. I thank you so much for your kindness, input, and generosity over the years. - Christian

Price History of Apollo for Reddit

Description of Apollo for Reddit

Apollo was an iOS app for browsing Reddit from 2015 to 2023. In 2023 Reddit announced significant price changes to their API, going from free to potentially costing tens of millions of dollars per year, with 30 days notice before developers would start incurring charges. As a result, Apollo was forced to shut down after the better part of a decade building for an incredible, supportive community. With over 100,000 five star ratings, and many accolades, I was incredibly proud of what Apollo accomplished. The app now exists in a commemorative/historic state, with a thank you message, the option to unlock a Goodbye Apollo wallpaper pack, and options to export data if you had the app downloaded previously (shake the device), and all previous app icons are now automatically unlocked. You can also use the app as a hub to get updates about other things the developer (Christian Selig) is working on. Again, thank you so much for all the years of fun, it was the honor of a lifetime building the app for all of you!

  • Amazing app & incredible developer

Apollo is the perfect way to access Reddit. With lots of features that are convenient to use, and tailored to the average users needs, it's leagues better than the official Reddit mobile app. I cannot stand the website any longer, I've been spoiled by Apollo.

The developer is responsive to bugs and feature requests, allowing for the community to make requests to make the app better. Not to mention the app is free, with no ads or requests for payment, the premium versions of the app only add minimal features that are nice to have, but not critical.

With the changes that Reddit is implementing, Apollo has announced the inevitable shutdown of the app, due to the pressure applied by Reddit's CEO u/spez. I'm sad to see it go, especially because of corporate greed, but I am grateful for the full clarity that Christian, Apollo's dev, has provided over the years. I hope that Reddit backtracks, so Apollo can carry on, but at this time I have deleted my account, and uninstalled Apollo. Thanks for the amazing app, Christian.

  • The best app for Reddit

I'm ashamed to admit that I've been a Reddit user for 7 years (of course, there are others worse off than me, but personally, those 7 years account for a sizable portion of my life). On the upside, most of those years were spent on Apollo, which is, in my opinion, the best third-party app to use Reddit with. If nothing else, it handily beats out the official app. It offers a sleek, user friendly, easily customizable Reddit experience, and provides users with a number of quality features the official app doesn't have—including accessibility options—and unlike many other apps, every update has only made it better. It pains me that Reddit's recent policy changes and its resultant, frankly awful treatment of anyone who voiced concerns has forced Apollo and several other third-party apps to shut down. Apollo is a gorgeous app, designed by an open, communicative developer; all in all, an outstanding example of what an app should do to offer an excellent user experience. I can't imagine using Reddit any other way, and I'm sorry to see Apollo go. As they say here in NJ and probably many other places, it's been real.

  • Best app for Reddit browsing

Thank you Apollo for all of the wonderful features and elegant UI choices that the original Reddit app could only dream of achieving. Thank you for the gestures, great media players, fantastic iOS support, and so much more. Thank you for caring about its users and not defaulting to throwing ads at its users for profit. It’s a shame that Reddit’s API changes and their greed have eventually come to shut this app down. This app did not deserve what Reddit threw at it. Ultimately, now many users will no longer have the great functionality of Apollo, and will be forced to use the “official” Reddit app filled with unbearable design choices, incessant ads, and countless other issues that make it unbearable, all in hopes that they can maximize profits by making sure everyone must use their ad-infested app. Even Apple loves this app and Reddit is sadly taking this app away from them as well. I’m really sad to see Apollo go soon but it’s impact will never be forgotten. Christian, if you’re reading this, thank you for the app and all of the hard work you’ve done for the Reddit community. Keep on creating and I hope you the best!
