  • Privacy Violations / Data Farm

Why does this developer need to make users agree to allowing them to track, store, and reserve the right to share and sell data such as users’ purchases, user content, all contacts, etc. for the functionality of this app?? Frankly, I don’t even see why it would be necessary for the dev to know users’ identity to provide this service. Though NOT unique in its functionality, the safety features appear robust on their own merits. That said, this is a paid service that’s marketed as the ‘most powerful safety app’. Safety and privacy and intertwined and inseparable.

So, how can any app that blatantly and extensively violates users’ privacy for present or future financial gain be considered user-centric with safety as the primary function and outcome??? The fact is that users are paying for this service twice, with a cash subscription AND with their data, which is now considered to be the most valuable commodity in the world. At the very least, devs that collect profiling data should follow the standards set by Google, Facebook, etc. and provide ‘free’ services in exchange for data without an additional subscription for those that are fine with this type of exchange.

  • A must have!

My son found this for me since I am alone a lot and I have a non-epileptic seizure disorder due to a brain condition. I used to use an SOS app which was useful for what I needed at the time, however it had quite a delay. This app however my son said, from the time I hit the button and the app notified my emergency contacts and my daughter got to me was only 34 seconds!
From someone who deals with regular seizures the rapid response time of this app is highly appreciated! Definitely a must have for not just loved ones who may be left alone but this would really come in incredibly helpful in any emergency situation, and is definitely worth the $9.99 a month for the unlimited for me!

  • False alerts

    I had two false alarms.
I thought 12 to 18 hours was enough time to check in on the app.
First false alarm, I guess I forgot to check in or it’s faulty because I couldn’t believe I forgot to check in since I’m always on the phone, I could have sworn I did check in… oh well.
Second time was an accident but I’m not sure how since the phone was in my pocket and parachute was activated and recording. You need a long press to activate it and I know I definitely did not long press it since I was working with my hands at the moment.
I love the idea but not if these false alarms keep happening no one will take it seriously if I’m ever in real danger.

  • Are you kidding me

I open the app for the first time in a while since i havnt needed to use it to record something urgent.

Im forced to sit through an introductory video after the app reinstalled itself. I already had to wait 10 seconds to get the reinstallation, then the video wouldnt allow me to skip it.

    Utter design failure.

  • 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Absolutely DISGUSTED that this is now a subscription app. I've had it for years and luckily never had to use it. Really glad I didn't ever try only to find out I had to pay mid-emergency. Deleting the app immediately.

Hi there! It seems like last time you opened Parachute was in 2017, so you would have missed a ton of new features and updates, and it seems like you also missed the emails we have sent out in the years since. Parachute 4.0 is a members-only app. For early adopters of Parachute, like yourself, we upgraded you to Parachute 4.0 completely free of charge two years ago, and provided you with a complimentary membership. You can read our Parachute 4.0 launch blog post at parachute.live/4.0 for more information. We have tried reaching out to you but have not heard back. Parachute memberships start at $3/year or $0.25/month for Parachute Micro, our most affordable membership. On our help section you will find several free alternatives to Parachute that may work for you, depending on your needs. You will also find more about our ethics and why we are a members-only app. Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, and stay safe! Best wishes from New York!
  • Won’t activate with locked phone

Used it for the first time during police stop. I asked Siri to activate the application as I have it setup in a shortcut. The application still required me to unlock my phone so it would start. I had the time to do this. Others may not. It works well besides this activation feature glitch.

Hi there! When wearing a face mask on a Face ID iPhone (without a fingerprint sensor), if the iPhone’s “Require Passcode” setting is set to “Immediately”, and if the iPhone is locked, the face mask can cause Siri to fail to automatically recognize your face and think you are not authorized to use the phone, which in turn leads to Siri asking you to enter your iPhone passcode. This behavior is controlled by Siri itself, based on your passcode settings, and it would apply to all apps, not specifically Parachute. Here’s a few things we can suggest on our end: 1) If you haven’t done so already, make sure to pick up the latest iOS update, as it contains improvements specifically for face masks. 2) There have been articles published providing some workarounds for making Face ID work with a mask, by using the “Set Up an Alternate Appearance” setting under “Face ID & Passcode”, although we have not tried this ourselves. 3) Depending on how you use your iPhone and what your risk profile is, you can set your iPhone’s Siri setting to “Allow Siri When Locked” and the “Require Passcode” setting to something other than “Immediately”. You can still force the passcode on at any time by pressing and holding the power button along with either of the volume buttons. Make sure to also set up Parachute’s Superlock add-on, which locks down your phone while continuing to live-stream your video, audio and location undisrupted. 4) Lastly, if you have a few minutes to file this directly with Apple at apple.com/feedback, it will amplify the need for addressing this in future versions of iOS. We are always standing by and ready to help with all your concerns, questions and feedback. Thank you for relying on Parachute for your safety and best wishes from New York!

Ummmm my contacts are not certified to help in emergencies! I just downloaded this app and I’m just figuring out it doesn’t call 911?? I may cancel. What’s the point if I have to solely depend on them for help .

    Developer Response

Parachute is designed to be used all around the world, including in countries and situations where our members do not want to alert local authorities and emergency services. There are also times when our members want to alert their emergency contacts with their live video, audio, and location, but it may not be relevant or applicable to emergency services. Our philosophy is to always give our members the tools to adapt Parachute to their own needs and requirements, and not force them to use it in a specific way. Therefore, emergency services alerting is optional on Parachute, via the Emergency Services add-on. Once you are approved for early access, you can set up emergency services via the Emergency Services add-on under the “Add-Ons” section. If you are looking for something more closely tied to 911, we provide a list of alternatives in the help section of our website and we’ll also be more than happy to suggest some alternatives that may better suit your specific needs. Feel free to contact your Parachute concierge any time via the app. You can cancel your membership any time via the “Manage Membership” button in the app
