My biggest issue is that if you put in multiple stops (sometimes just to force a different route) and you do not drive exactly to those stops, it will continue to try and route you to those stops, with no (cancel stop) prompt. You need to stop your car and replan a route. It is also slow to identify traffic problems or road issues. I once drove 15 km down a road to find the bridge was out. Google and Apple would have known about this. It does work nicely in CarPlay, and it does talk to my OBD dongle, so I hope it will improve in future. ### 3/5 — Frustrating, Buggy, Inconsistent, not worth the subscription. *2026-08-25* I had seen several references to ABRP as being the smarter way to plan long distance EV trips. We tried, we subscribed, we got frustrated and gave up. (1) Car Play in a Kia was flakey. The map would occasionally zoom out and then get stuck at fully zoomed out. Not use when doing a long trip. (2) We specified a charging network preference, multiple times it chose a rival network nearby that would have cost substantially more. (3) While planning a trip on the phone (17ProMax with latest iOS), we could put the start and end points but when we wanted to swipe up to specify the EV SoC before departure, on multiple occasions the tab would slide back down preventing us from changing the SoC. A restart of the app and the function came good. Overall it was massively buggy so we went back to our EVs own planning app and route planning which always chose our preferred charging network unless it wasn’t possible, gave us a good understanding of the expected SoC at the destination point. The only thing it could do was aim include a preferred destination SoC. Oh, last thing, online connection to our EV didn’t work. We appreciate that this was an EV issue rather than ABRP but it just added to the frustration. ### 3/5 — Cannot select Custom Vehicle in Route planner *2026-08-19* After creating a custom vehicle due to my new model vehicle not being listed, the custom car cannot be used in the route planner. Despite it being the selected vehicle, it does not appear in the planner which repetitively asks for a car to be selected again. Just another bug I guess. Have requested my new model car be added to the list. The app seems well designed otherwise. ### 2/5 — Terrible *2026-08-19, version 7.1.5* If I try to change anything, the display constantly flickers and is unusable. No integration with Contacts Trying to enter a destination is not intuitive. ### 2/5 — A Worse Routeplanner (AWRP) *2026-08-18, version 7.1.5* Use PlugShare instead! ABRP has really gone down the toilet the past few years. Can’t use ABRP w Android Auto or Apple CarPlay unless you have a premium subscription (Good luck figuring THAT out; the interface is so obtuse that you can’t GIVE them your money). PlugShare works beautifully with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for FREE. ABRP keeps inexplicably disconnecting navigation while you’re driving without even notifying you (surefire way to get yourself stranded w a dead battery). PlugShare never disconnects. ABRP’s interface is a nonsensical mess; whereas, PlugShare’s is pleasantly intuitive. Enough said. ### 2/5 — Buggy *2026-08-17, version 7.1.5* Tried to used multiple times and the app is flipping out. Entered an address and the app won't resolve. Open a saved route and the app freezes in a flicker. Saw some good reviews but seems to have some issues. ### 4/5 — 7.1.5: several bugs remain *2026-08-15* The app has greatly improved but version 7.1.5 seems to only use current location when sharing the plan with Google Maps, making this feature effectively unusable for planning. The issue is not present when sharing plan with Apple Maps. For example, if I plan a London-Edinburgh road trip but live in Norwich, ABRP tells Google Maps that departure of the trip is from Norwich instead of London when the plan is shared with Google Maps. There is another bug: details of charging locations are not displayed anymore once they’ve been bookmarked. Clicking on the location only displays “dropped pin” Please fix. Also, just like you can send the journey defined with ABRP to Google Maps or Apple Plans, a great addition would be to be able send a trip planned in Google Maps or Apple Plans to ABRP to tweak it in terms of chargers etc. Another suggestion: could you please keep a list of the chargers excluded in the “Charging settings”, so that they can be included again more easily if need be? GPS lags and sputters. Display color scheme decided to do its own thing. Nav voice unmuted itself. ### 2/5 — It used to be better *2026-08-09, version 7.1.4* I don’t know what happened recently to this app but it used to be great. Now it seems to have gone downhill in the past year with really flaky ux. Screens freeze, there are frequent hangs when I look up alternate routes, and it just ignores route selections at times. The ux has also become pretty unintuitive. Like when I try to select next charger, it keeps selecting the same charger. Then I have to cancel my route, mark the charger as do not use, then I have to re plan after removing my previous stops. I also can’t connect premium features like Enode ### 3/5 — SoC indication while navigating is always off/incorrect *2026-08-05, version 7.1.4* The app works wonderfully but when I set the state of charge of my car before starting the navigation, when the navigation starts the state of charge indicated is always off. For example my car is charged to 50% and when I start the navigation it will say it’s only at 31% for seemingly no reason. ### 2/5 — Hit and miss *2026-08-03* Sometimes it seems to work well. I love being able to plan charging on long trips. But this last time I noticed all sorts of issues. From freezing while navigating to incorrect speed postings and just general issues with proper route selection. Might be time to seek out another product. ### 4/5 — Great for planning, not so much for navigating. *2026-08-02, version 7.1.4* The good: This app has taken ALLOT of anxiety out of making trips in our EV. The bad: Even with solid cell service, it frequently gets behind or looses where it is all together. The blue guidance line often goes missing at complex intersections (!!) and the speed limit indicator routinely fails to up date, with 70mph displayed though 30mph city zones. We’ve had to pull over numerous times to confirm our route in Google Maps. ### 2/5 — Don’t bother *2026-08-02* Update August 2026 I decided to give it another go as I had some long journeys to do. Managed to log in ok and pay for a subscription, and pleased to see live data working again. Not pleased to see the new CarPlay layout which is very cluttered - was much better when charge level and speed were in top left and bottom left corners. The speed display overlaps the speed limit which is messy to look at. Charge remaining is very inaccurate - when setting off it plans for a charge at 15% but during the journey it gradually updates to as much as 40% remaining, but does not replan the charger accordingly. Often when forced to detour it does not replan the route and instead freezes until reset. Speed camera alerts are generally out of date. Traffic is also generally inaccurate. There is a lot of work needed to make this usable. Update June 2025 Since the latest update it is now impossible to log in to the app. This is such a shame as it had started to become ans excellent app, but it has now dropped back to being absolutely awful. I am now cancelling my subscription. Update May 2025: The most recent set of updates to this app have caused serious problems that are making it unusable. The main issue is that for the last few updates it can only connect to my OBD dongle for a couple of seconds at a time, then disconnects for several seconds, and repeats. Original review: ABRP is starting to get good now. Speed cameras and CarPlay Dashboard screen are very welcome additions. I drive a lot in East Anglia where there tends to be very poor phone reception for miles at a time, so some form of offline mapping and planning would make the app perfect. ### 2/5 — Promising but buggy *2026-08-01, version 7.1.4* Tried to add Tesla and connect per Reddit recommendation but the connect journey completely broken in app and browser. Kind of useless without ### 1/5 — Update broke GPS *2026-07-26, version 7.1.4* After the latest update the app randomly freezes on car screen and stops GPS location updates. The HUD displays only one thing as next turn and it's both wrong and doesn't change. Although force quitting the app on phone unfreezes GPS updates, HUD never unfreeze and remains stuck. ### 1/5 — Unable to use premium features *2026-07-25, version 7.1.4* Thought I’d give this app a go for a month. Have been billed for the month and subscription is showing as active in Apple, but the app just shows the standard account ### 1/5 — Wow… *2026-07-25, version 7.1.4* A few years ago I was a bit impressed with how ABRP helped find charging stations, but guidance was pathetic. Today was our first road trip on a new route in quite a while. So I plugged min mi OBD-3 and went….about a mile and I switched to the fruit guidance app… I really thought Rivian would’ve made ABRP at least work. It took almost an hour to provide initial guidance, and after I selected the route, no more visual map and laggy guidance next to the fruit brand. Je l’ai utilisée pour la première fois lors d’un déplacement à La Rochelle avec ma moto électrique. Je l’ai configurée pour emprunter les routes secondaires, éviter les autoroutes et n’utiliser qu’un seul type de recharge. Franchement, l’application est excellente. Elle est très bien conçue. Le seul petit point négatif que je relève concerne le GPS : lorsqu’on se trompe de route, l’itinéraire ne se recalcule pas automatiquement. On est alors obligé de faire demi-tour pour retrouver le trajet prévu. Un recalcul d’itinéraire en temps réel serait le bienvenu. Enfin, un choix un peu plus large de modèles de motos électriques dans les références disponibles serait également appréciable. ### 5/5 — Super App fürs Routing mit dem e-Auto *2026-07-26* Das ist die beste App für die Lade-Planung beim Reisen, die ich kenne. Seitdem wir die App nutzen, planen wir kaum noch Pausen mit Restaurant Aufenthalt ein, da man nicht mehr grundsätzlich bis 80% lädt, sondern nur so viel, wie wirklich erforderlich ist, um zum Ziel oder dem nächsten Ladestopp zu gelangen. Vielfältige Voreinstellungen ermöglichen eine gute Möglichkeit, dem eigenen Sicherheitsgefühl entsprechend die Ladestopps zu planen. Thank you for understanding! ### 5/5 — A must have *2026-07-07, version 7.1.3* We just completed our first extended trip in our EV. I’d like to share some tips for other EV owners. You give it your source, destination, and any stop you want and it determines the best route. You pre-define it with your car (model), starting charge, desired arrival charge level, your favorite charger brands (think gas stations), etc. It figures out your best route to get where you are going. I also select a bathroom nearby and also a food stop if possible. I always start with a 100% charge and like to arrive about a 40% charge. ABRP then calculates you stop here for 13 minutes, there for 22 minutes, another one there for 17 minutes and you end up at your location with 43% charge remaining. However, I don’t like ABRP’s actual route guidance. It is to (voice) chatty for me while driving. But each stop has an address so I put that address into Apple Maps (Google Maps, Waze, whatever) and Maps is more knowledgable about traffic delays, best routes, etc. Same destination (kind of - more in a minute) and for me less voice chatty. Same destination, not really. Maps gets you to the address. However I’m sometimes dropped off at the street address, not the final maze in the parking lot to the front of the store. But even that isn’t good enough. This is where ABRP comes back to life. ABRP’s destination is the lat/long of the actual charging station which is usually in some far corner of the parking lot. No looking around to find it at the mall. ABRP is free but you can get a paid version. I paid for 1 month while I took this trip. It gives you additional features but honestly I don’t think I needed or used any of them. I do want to support the developer so I’ll see what future trips require. One thing I (we) would like is the ability to say something like find me a DQ (Dairy Queen) along the route as well. That feature doesn’t exist on either ABRP or Maps that I know of yet. So we sill watch for DQ signs and venture off the route on our own at times. You also still need the charging stations app to use and pay for the electricity. I probably have a dozen now. Electrify America, ChargePoint, EVgo, Tesla (no I don’t have a Tesla but I have a Tesla charger adapter), Shell, Blink, etc. A couple of stations supposedly will simply take a credit card, but I found the app more reliable than a simple credit card. ### 5/5 — Not all chargers are listed but loving it *2026-07-05* Good thing is that it looks for chargers that are nearby other chargers and restaurants or restaurants room by default So if some charger was not working there can be backup chargers also the estimated time to charge at a station is also good ### 5/5 — Most helpful *2026-06-18, version 7.1.2* This app makes me so much more confident when I travel long distances in my EV ### 5/5 — Must Have *2026-06-12, version 7.1.2* Amazing must have app for EV drivers.
