### 5/5 — A Great Learning App

*2021-05-23*

Just got this app and it seems like a lot of fun. So much to do and see in this app! Glad I got it. I’m taking Emma’s free photography class and this will also help me more cause there are others that participate and show off their photos and help others with their own questions. It’s easy to understand and only $4.99 in American cash for one whole year. I’m happy I got this app…

### 5/5 — Excellent Course

*2021-04-02, version 3.28.1*

I have just finished my year. This App is all organised and easy to use. Most importantly it is an excellent vehicle for accessing top quality materials and activities. If you are looking to progress from a beginner this is for you. The course is well structured and organised with excellent support. I would unreservedly recommend it to anyone. Additional high quality support material is available through Amazon. I can’t believe the progress I have made this year. It’s been enjoyable and fun too.

### 5/5 — Excellent app & community

*2021-02-13*

Excellent addition to the A Year With My Camera instruction/community/group/brand. Easy to use, mobile or desktop, keeps everything all together in one spot. The FREE AYWMC lessons are really terrific for those wanting to understand all the functions and workings of DSLR cameras. Building block style, presented in manageable chunks, your photos will improve tremendously in a short time. The community is terrific as well-lots of talented folks willing to share & help.

### 5/5 — Highly recommend!

This is such a great app to have for anyone starting with a manual camera or just plain need some motivation to get their camera out again. Great to have everything for AYWMC in one location on my phone and very easy to use.

### 5/5 — Great Course

*2021-01-03, version 3.19.2*

Just finishing the year it’s been unbelievably good value week by week projects a supportive community I’m taking pictures that just were not possible a year ago. Gone from my iPhone to taking my Camera everywhere! The building blocks and structure really worked for me because you add gradually and practice so everything sticks. Not just technical projects but composition to water splashes and a lot more! It suits me that there is no pressure its your own pace. A life saver in lockdown Definitly easy to recommend!!!

### 5/5 — Absolutely fantastic

*2020-12-31, version 3.19.2*

This is a wonderful course. As an absolute beginner I found this course perfect. The lesson plan is so well organised and clear. A difficult subject made accessible to all. Well done Emma and the AYMC team. Friendly supportive community. Easy to use App. Not only will You learn how your camera works (and what all those settings are for!) Emma’s lessons all cleverly help you become more creative and certainly makes you challenge yourself. Highly recommended

### 5/5 — Great app!

Everything is all on one place from homework to blog posts, groups to join, new events, projects and community. This app keeps you up to date.

### 5/5 — Lovely community

*2020-12-30, version 3.19.2*

A lovely community of photographers and aspiring photographers. Emma’s weekly classes have helped me so much to improve in my abilities. I highly suggest to join the specialty groups (also in the app) for fun weekly challenges and to connect with people who share the same interests.

### 5/5 — Absolutely excellent

*2020-12-30, version 3.19.2*

This app enhances the experience of the excellent online course “A year with my camera”. It enables you to share, inspire and be inspired, constructively comment on each other’s work and generally feel like you are a member of a like minded group of people. I highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — Great photography App and course

*2020-12-30, version 3.19.2*

Emma and her team run an online photography course that lasts for one year. It covers all the basics needed to get you from using auto settings on your camera to having full control. The App community is a positive and helpful group made up of people who are doing the course and those, like me, who have completed it. As well as the course homework there are weekly and monthly challenges, if you want to do them. Within the App there are groups where members can discuss and answer each other’s questions and post their photographs.
The course is free and the App is a very reasonable price.

### 5/5 — Incredibly effective!

*2020-12-30*

Started this course 6 months ago and can’t believe how much I have learned as an absolute beginner. The support in this community together with the course itself has made this app the best purchase I have made!

### 5/5 — Wow, What can I say

*2020-12-30, version 3.19.2*

I am a complete beginner, having always set my camera to ‘automatic’. After only 2 months into the course, I’m now using ‘Manual’ and setting my own Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speeds. I never thought I’d be doing that! So can’t wait for the next 8 months. The App is a godsend in that you can post your homework and give and receive reviews and helpful advice/tips etc. It’s also lovely to see everyone else’s homework which can also be an inspiration. Emma Davies is a fabulous teacher and has a way of getting things across to you that you can understand. Her admin team via the App also support this. I can’t recommend this enough.

### 5/5 — Join the fun

*2020-12-30*

No popularity contest here. A great place to learn photography from the ground up

### 5/5 — Superb Course

*2020-12-30, version 3.19.2*

Fantastic photography course. Weekly lessons are bite sized so are very achievable, written in an easy to understand manner. Very supportive admins and community. Additional resources are available for the keen enthusiast. Through this app I have learned how my camera works and how to use it off auto. Would highly recommend this app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Immediate Cash Grab

*2026-04-09*

This app may be wonderful and useful—the 5 star average rating would certainly suggest so—but I will never know. There is no way to preview or explore any part of the app without creating an account and paying the subscription. It seems very reasonably-priced and it’s well-reviewed, and I’d almost certainly pay the subscription fee if I could just at least see what the app is like first. Devs: if you ever add a free trial or a limited demo mode with a paywall, I’ll happily give it a second look.

### 1/5 — Paid subscription only

*2025-12-05, version 4.85.1*

First, the app developers ask for your email address. Then they offer a paid subscription. There is no other option. If I would have known this, I would never bother with the app in first place. Poor practice!

### 1/5 — User Beware

*2022-06-30*

I didn’t have a issue with app but found the community rude and unhelpful. If you don’t agree with them 100% then you must be doing something “wrong”. Instead of accepting your view, it is condemned but I’m sure this will be disputed by the group as well. Bottom line, not for me and will never recommend to anyone who ask. I would recommend a site that might cost more but as a broader view of photography. Not worth the time or effort.

### 1/5 — Why can’t I sign in on my ipad?.

*2022-03-31*

I downloaded the app on my phone and paid for it, and I realized it will work better for me on my IPad. I downloaded the app and tried to sign in and it’s saying it doesn’t recognize it. HELP!

### 1/5 — Not working

*2020-09-10*

Is anyone having trouble with this app suddenly not working on their iPhone? It worked fine for a month and now I suddenly can’tEven open it. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it :(

### 1/5 — App won’t let me on.

*2020-09-02*

The app just won’t let me agree to its policy so I can’t get signed on

### 1/5 — Login problem

*2020-06-08*

The first time I tried to log in I had a problem with the iPad selecting the password. Subsequent attempts to reset the password have resulted in my email account being deemed invalid. I don’t know how to contact anyone to address the issue. The result is I have an app that I am blocked from using. This is very frustrating especially in a paid app. Help!

### 5/5 — Brilliant app and community

*2025-12-26, version 4.85.1*

I’m not one for reviews but this app has been amazing. Well worth the small fee to join a well structured and professional course and be part of a supportive community of photographers. Although I usually use my desktop to post on this forum, the app makes it much easier to catch up on posts from other users and get involved in the community.

### 5/5 — The best educational experience of my life

*2025-08-31, version 4.75.1*

I have recently finished my first “year with my camera” and I am a much more competent, skilled and inspired photographer than when I began. The course - delivered in bite-sized emails, weekly for a year, covers way more than Weber expected to learn about photography. It’s absolutely brilliant. Simple to understand AND really stretching.

### 5/5 — Want to learn how to use your camera? Get this app

*2025-07-10*

This app is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to use their DSLR or other expensive camera. It helps you get away from using the e automatic setting.

The lessons are laid out with a weekly homework assignment but you can work at your own pace.

The first section is the technical part which helps you understand how to set the settings. The second section teaches composition.

Well thought out in easy to understand bites.

## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Blown away!

*2024-05-09, version 4.34.1*

I have just signed up to this course/downloaded the app, and I am blown away! It is fantastic with brilliant content and I would be stupid if I did not use it and finally get ahead in my photography which I have been struggling with for years now!
Love it! Simply fantastic

Thank you.

### 5/5 — AYWMC is the best!

*2022-08-18*

AYWMC is a great learning experience. The people that you meet through this is an added bonus. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Enjoying the app

*2021-12-30*

I love this app. It allows me to post on the go. I actually feel like I’m more involved with the AYWMC community more now that I am using the app more.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2021-12-18, version 3.43.2*

This is a great community for the AYWMY photography course. One can get excellent feedback and support. Lots of groups for posting photos -

### 5/5 — Positive and Rewarding Experience

*2021-10-19, version 3.43.2*

I have thoroughly enjoyed this course. My knowledge has improved and continues every time I take my camera out, (not sure my family always like standing around waiting for me to make a photograph though). I have also gained confidence in that I’m happy to be seen taking photos in public places. I know, mostly, what I’m doing and don’t worry that others might judge me. Really pleased there are groups to join at the end of this month as I would miss belonging to AYWMC.
With thanks to Emma, the team and all the others in my cohort (#november2020) who are so supportive. Just seeing others photography is learning and we have all grown and improved. I Love You All!

### 5/5 — Now I understand my camera

*2021-09-12, version 3.42.3*

I have had a camera for 30 years but used it on auto. After 9 months on this course I understand how to take a good photograph, it doesn’t always work but at least I know what I’ve done wrong. Good fun because it makes you try all sorts of different photos. So pleased I found this course, thank you Emma.

### 5/5 — Great course

*2021-07-12, version 3.33.2*

I’m 9 weeks into it and would definitely recommend. It takes everything slowly and clearly. I wasn’t an absolute beginner, I’d been to U3A sessions but this is the only structured course I’ve done. I’m definitely benefiting from the course, it gives the clearest explanations I’ve come across. There’s also community involvement through the app if you want and extras every weekend (which I haven’t got involved in yet).
