### 4/5 — Getting rid of AAA

*2026-04-17, version 1.0.1*

There is so much they need to make clear about this app. For instance, looking for patterns over time. I reached out and they were wonderfully gracious in explaining it. That being said, using the app and trying to use music app while driving crashes my Apple CarPlay in my VW. Could be a VW problem with software connecting to the phone but I didn’t have this issue before AAA app.

### 3/5 — Not Clear

*2026-04-16, version 1.0.1*

This app does not clearly explain how it determines ratings.

### 3/5 — Keeps you a good driver… somewhat

*2026-02-10*

I like that the app holds me accountable for distractions and speeding.
However, I feel as though it promotes running red lights as every time I stop do a light it dings me for hard braking to the point I feel like my score will be better if I run the red.
I hope they will update the software to notice hard stops at intersections and take that into account for the score.

### 4/5 — Reminder of your driving

*2025-12-10, version 1.0*

App is really strict about hard braking. Otherwise it does what was designed for. Does not recognize railroad crossings.

### 3/5 — Useful but annoying

*2025-11-15*

PROS…
1) can save you money
2) persuades you to drive better

CONS…
1) It doesn’t stop recording your drive when it should…

EXAMPLE - I got home, threw keys/wallet/phone on table, let the dogs out, decided to check app rating on last drive… well, it thinks I’m still driving and guess what, since I just got on my phone, we’re just going to mark you down for distracted driving… 😒

2) Records “events” that aren’t your fault and punishes you for them…

EXAMPLE 1 - The on-ramp I take to work everyday is sketchy, you have to accelerate from 35 to 70+ quickly because it’s such a small ramp. Well I had to accelerate quickly to merge in like normal… nope, can’t do that, we’re just gonna mark you down for hard acceleration aka unsafe driving… 😒

EXAMPLE 2 - Had to slam on my brakes to avoid the 2 deer that came out in front of me on the expressway … well, you were probably tailgating or something, we’re just going to mark you down for hard braking aka unsafe driving… 😒

**Developer response:** Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for the frustration this has caused. Please contact AAADriveAppsupport@acg.aaa.com so we can assist you directly.

### 2/5 — Penalizes for stop and go traffic

*2025-08-21, version 1.0*

The app is fair when it comes to speeding, but it inappropriately penalizes drivers for stop and go traffic jams. My family and I do not make hard stops, but any time we are in stop and go traffic jams, it gives us one star. Not sure what AAA expects us to do when we are in traffic jams.

### 2/5 — What a mess

*2025-07-24, version 1.0*

I’m pretty sure the passenger in my car that you can’t even see is more distracting than the HANDS FREE CarPlay features I use that still get me dinged. Can’t even ask for directions without losing a star.

Tracking doesn’t start and stop in a timely manner - I can park and go into the gas station and it’s still recording the trip for the 5-10 minutes I might be in there which means it’s logging I’m using my phone while driving even though I’m not even in my car.

Was opted out of this program without my consent 6 months ago. Never received the discount for the driving I had done the previous period. Getting signed BACK up for this was a giant headache for myself and my broker. You should be making things more simple and more affordable for your customers, not worse.

### 2/5 — Needs some work

*2025-05-04, version 1.0*

This app is pretty decent! Works good and records instant. Only complaint is it should not deduct 1 star just because I tapped screen of phone. Even if I use hands free through my car stereo “Bluetooth” it’ll deduct a star. That’s messed up, ITS HANDS FREE CALLING.

### 4/5 — I like it

*2025-02-19, version 1.0*

The app forces me to be mindful of how I am driving. The reason I gave it only four stars is that the retention of the history is only 30 days.

### 5/5 — Much improved

*2025-01-14, version 1.0*

The newest version of this app seems to be much more accurate and easy to use. I appreciate that it reminds me about logging my drives & I can easily remove ones where I wasn’t driving.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Rating System is Unclear and Punitive

*2026-03-04, version 1.0.1*

I’ve been trying to figure out exactly how the rating system works and it seems extremely arbitrary and unclear. For example it rates you 1-5 stars on 3 different criteria, however your overall score is clearly not merely an average of the 3. Because sometimes if you complete a trip with 5 stars in 2 of the categories and 1 star in the remaining category, it will give you a 1 for the whole trip. Why even show multiple rating criteria if the final score practically only relies on one of them?

My biggest complaint, however, is that it’s realistically pretty much impossible to maintain a high score in many real driving conditions, such as someone pulling out in front of you unexpectedly, heavy traffic conditions, or a traffic light changing when you’re already near it. A single hard braking event from any of these and you will literally get a 1 star for the whole trip and potentially have your whole drive score drop 5-10 points. In short, your score will depend way more on the traffic conditions you’re driving in than it will on your behavior as a driver.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2026-02-18, version 1.0.1*

Put in my cell number numerous time and it won’t let me in. What happened to the old version of AAA Drive. I didn’t have any problems with that one..

### 1/5 — Keeps you a good driver… somewhat

*2026-02-13, version 1.0.1*

I like that the app holds me accountable for distractions and speeding.
However, I feel as though it promotes running red lights as every time I stop do a light it dings me for hard braking to the point I feel like my score will be better if I run the red.
I hope they will update the software to notice hard stops at intersections and take that into account for the score.
My score was 98 when I started and I have not changed my habits. As the time grew closer for it to stop tracking, it seems as though it is rating my driving harder.
I also dislike how the app says I am 5 stars for my speeding but then I got to trends an it is 79. How is that possible.

### 1/5 — The app is confusing and invasive.

*2026-01-09, version 1.0.1*

Right off the bat the fact that you need to keep the app running in the background and give it full location access all the time is suspicious. The app itself is also not intuitive, I was getting a score of 30 out of 100 because I kept my phone in the cup holder. Once I started sitting on my phone so it would not move I started getting 100.

### 1/5 — Did not give discount

*2026-01-04, version 1.0.1*

I was monitored for 6 months and have a driving score of 95. They did not apply my discount to my renewal. I have talked to 4 different people and spent 4 hours on the phone and everyone says “you have to talk to someone else” and “I cant help you”

The app is a scam

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work.

*2025-07-24, version 1.0*

App doesn’t log your driving.

### 1/5 — Miles not counting

*2025-06-26, version 1.0*

I manually add all the trips and miles and it keeps showing less than 600, while i had over 1000 miles weeks ago. AAA is scamming people and trying to record their drives without limits. Very disappointing.

### 1/5 — Miles not counting

*2025-06-22*

I manually add all the trips and miles and it keeps showing less than 600, while i had over 1000 miles weeks ago. AAA is scamming people

### 1/5 — Someone needs to know the rules

*2025-06-05, version 1.0*

I was specifically told by my AAA insurance Agent that I had to drive a minimum of 15 trips and 400 miles and it would send me a text message to opt out. I’m at literally 55 trips and 1500 miles and they now tell me I have to record trips for 91 days. That would be all well and good if the app was accurate which it is not. If you live in an area with easy pass lanes, the app clocks you at the stop and pay speed limit and dings you for speeding. I’m my case the drive through speed limit is 70 ( up here in Maine for the summer ) and the stop and pay is 35 mph -so I get a ding just about everyday. I do not recommend the app.

### 1/5 — Crazy algorithm

*2025-04-26, version 1.0*

My driving record shows zero distraction over my entire driving record which makes sense as I never touch my phone while driving. However my overall score in distraction is dropping at a steady rate. I work from home Friday and it still dropped a point from Thursday. Don’t know what crazy algorithm they have.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — SAFE

*2026-04-09, version 1.0.1*

The app focuses me on driving SAFE, not being in Hurry .

### 5/5 — Good app to keep you safe

*2026-01-27, version 1.0.1*

Keeps you accountable

### 5/5 — Read The Road Ahead

*2026-01-02, version 1.0.1*

Hello Everyone! This app teaches all of us regardless if age to be a more conscientious driver! A conscientious driver is a driver that demonstrates a high level of awareness, responsibility and
attentiveness on the road.
They prioritize safety by adhering to traffic rules, maintaining a proper speed and avoiding distractions. Thank You AAA for making the roads safer!👍🏻

### 5/5 — Improvement

*2025-11-21, version 1.0*

Easier to use as just set and forget now. No more logging each trip.

### 5/5 — Fred

*2025-09-27, version 1.0*

Keeps me on my toes

### 5/5 — Drive app is super

*2025-09-21, version 1.0*

This helps me to stay focused on my driving and be a better driver. It saves u money too while training u to avoid accidents. Win win get it I love it. It is fun too

### 5/5 — Better

*2025-09-18, version 1.0*

This app so much better than using AAADrive through the AAA mobile app.

### 5/5 — Avoided crash

*2025-09-09, version 1.0*

App keeps u focused. I use Waze which gives me feed back on approaching hazards and posted speed limits. I was doing a little under the speed limit ( every other car over the limit by 10 and 15 mph). Main highway with confusing entryways. Observed a car on my right entering and could immediately tell he wasn’t stopping. My speed and focus enabled me to have a control braking. I could see the other driver didn’t have a clue as he crossed over the highway in front of me.

### 5/5 — Excellent app and accurate tracking!!

*2025-08-26, version 1.0*

Excellent app and accurate tracking!!

### 5/5 — AAA Drive 2.0 is super easy to use

*2025-07-24, version 1.0*

AAA stepped up their game and revamped AAA Drive with a user-friendly fair user based insurance scoring system. As long as you don’t text while driving drive the speed limit and don’t hard break like a maniac you’ll get a great score and it’ll help your insurance rate. I would highly recommend this app!
