## What is Above?

Everything you need for your hike
Above accompanies you from planning to the memories afterward. Create your own route, keep track of your position, progress, and elevation profile on the trail, and preserve every hike with photos, notes, and detailed tour data.

Plan your next hike
Set your destinations and let Above find a suitable hiking route. Review the distance, elevation gain, estimated duration, terrain difficulty, and challenging sections before you start.

Plan round trips or point-to-point routes and adjust them with your own waypoints.

Know before you go
Above warns you about known access restrictions and protected areas, both while planning your route and on the interactive map, with official Swiss sources and OpenStreetMap coverage worldwide.

Stay oriented on the trail
Record your hike and see your route, current position, progress, and elevation profile together on the map. Topographic maps, points of interest, relief shading, and slope-angle layers help you understand the terrain. Downloaded content remains available when there is no cellular reception.

Weather and route alerts notify you about relevant conditions and when you leave your planned route.

Preserve every hike
Every recorded hike becomes part of your personal hiking archive. Add photos and notes, and keep your route, distance, elevation gain, duration, and reached summits together in one place.

Group your hikes into collections
Combine related tours into a collection: build a multi-day hike from separate recordings, gather everything from a hiking vacation, or bring a long-distance trail like the Jakobsweg together in one place.

Your automatic summit log
Above automatically identifies summits from recorded and imported hikes. Review your ascents, summit statistics, photos, and personal notes whenever you like.

Discover and import hikes
Search for hikes from hikr.org directly in Above, or import GPX files from other apps and websites.
You can also import previously completed hikes and bring your existing tours, summits, and statistics into Above.

Your data belongs to you
Above does not require an account and contains no advertising. Your data remains on your iPhone and, optionally, in your personal iCloud.
Your hikes can be exported again whenever you need them.

This update fixes two issues: a crash on launch when Above tried to reopen the Map tab, and missing elevation data for planned routes outside the Alps.

Above kann jetzt abgeschlossene Touren zu Sammlungen zusammenfassen, mit einem gemeinsamen Cover-Foto-Picker und der Möglichkeit, Sammlungen direkt an andere Above-Nutzer zu übertragen. So lässt sich eine mehrtägige Wanderung aus einzelnen Aufzeichnungen bauen, alles aus dem Wanderurlaub sammeln, oder ein Fernwanderweg wie der Jakobsweg an einem Ort zusammenführen.

Above warnt jetzt vor bekannten Zugangsbeschränkungen und Schutzgebieten, sowohl auf der interaktiven Karte als auch bei der Routenplanung, mit offiziellen Schweizer Quellen und weltweiter OpenStreetMap-Abdeckung.

Unter „Karten & offline“ in den Einstellungen siehst du jetzt, wann die Kartendaten zuletzt aktualisiert wurden und wann die nächste Aktualisierung ungefähr ansteht.

Above taucht jetzt auch in der Spotlight-Suche auf. Tippe den Namen einer gespeicherten Tour oder eines Gipfels ein, um direkt dorthin zu springen, oder bitte Siri, sie oder ihn in Above zu zeigen.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-14

Map data can change over time: summit names and elevations may be corrected, and previously unnamed summits may receive a name. Above automatically updates this information for reached summits when new map data becomes available at the beginning of each month.

Completed tours remain unchanged as a record of your hike. If you want to update the summits associated with a tour, use the “Update Summits” button while editing it.

Above can now import FIT files in addition to GPX files.

The Summits tab now appears only when your completed tours contain summits, keeping Above focused on the way you hike.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-08-08

Above zeigt jetzt ausführlichere Informationen zu Hütten und weiteren wichtigen Orten auf der Karte. Bei geplanten Touren stehen diese Details jetzt auch offline, also ohne Mobilfunkverbindung, zur Verfügung. Die swisstopo-Landeskarte lässt sich jetzt in den Karteneinstellungen als sichtbare Kartenebene ein- und ausschalten. Routenlinien sind bei hohen Zoomstufen jetzt transparenter, damit darunterliegende Wege besser sichtbar bleiben.

Above 1.0.2 polishes the experience with easier sharing, more control over offline maps and improved map reliability:
• Share complete tours with other Above users, including the route, photos, notes and tour details.
• See names for lakes and rivers directly on the map.
• Choose whether planned tours are saved offline automatically, or download them manually when needed.
• Fixed issues that could prevent maps and routes from loading correctly after returning to the app.
• Short recordings now reliably show a map preview.
