Unfortunately I used it for the first time today and it only recorded 5 minutes of my 20 minute conversation with the doctor. During this time I didn’t receive any other calls, had a strong wi-fi connection, and plenty of memory on my phone so not sure why it would stop recording. Disappointed on my first use of the app. ### 4/5 — Helpful but has limited functionality *2023-09-25* Recording my appointments has been amazing, especially since my limited memory is a chronic issue. I wish I could export the information, especially as a text file so it could be incorporated into my text-based chronic health journal. The conversations can be shared with another person, but only within the app. I could play the audio and let my phone write it down (voice to text) but this seems like something that is a realistic addition for future versions of this app. The existing transcription is incomplete (only transcribes subsections of the conversation), and it doesn’t have perfect selection of which sections are the “important” information. The library of medical jargon didn’t recognize about half of the medical terms mentioned during the appointment, so I had to go in and change those manually. I noticed this occurred more often with abbreviations of diagnoses, including diagnoses that were recognized by the app when saying the full name. ### 4/5 — Dr visits *2022-12-21, version 2.22.1* Always very helpful to have a recording of the visit. When I got home, and listened to the conversation between me and my doctor, I picked up information that I had not heard. The Abridge App is wonderful. I think parents of teenagers could benefit from this valuable app since a lot of young people would rather their parent/s to not be in the exam room. As someone with a chronic illness that involves several systems in the body, I have a bunch of appointments and sometimes they can be overwhelming with a lot of new information thrown at me. It is easy to miss some details that may be important. That is where Abridge comes in because you record the appointment and can go back to listen to either the whole appointment or go back to a certain part of the conversation. The app transcribes the recording and even picks out “meaningful moments” to make it easier to go back and find certain things mentioned like medications. I highly recommend this app especially for anyone who is chronically ill or for your elderly parents etc. The recordings can be shared with family members to keep them in the loop so everyone is on the same page in caring for you and/or your loved one. ### 5/5 — Medical translation like Magic! *2022-08-11, version 2.21.0* I’ve started using this app with all my doctors appointments and pediatrician appointments. I no longer need to take detailed notes, and can share notes with my wife if she can’t join or I can’t remember the details. It’s a marriage saver! Downloaded for myself but the app tells me “not open for new users” so that’s a one-star failure. But when I went to sign up I got a message stating that: “It’s so great to meet you but…unfortunately, Abridge for Patients is currently unavailable for new users.” I am not sure why this is as it seems like other people have recently been able to access and use the app. However, I wish there was some disclaimer in the description for new patients so that they don’t have to go through the disappointment I just did, hope you guys start accepting people soon but I’m deleting the app. ### 1/5 — NOT taking new customers. *2024-09-23, version 2.26.0* Unfortunately you cannot use this app as a new customer. Legal issues?? ### 1/5 — No transcription *2024-07-02, version 2.25.0* I was really excited for this app based on the description and stellar reviews from other people with chronic illness. I tested it out at home and pretended I was talking to a doctor about hypertension and my current medications. I definitely used medical terminology, but the app said it didn’t find any in my audio. I also thought that it was meant to transcribe the conversation and highlight medical concepts, but I’m not getting any transcription of my audio. Unless I’m missing something, this app does not deliver. Super disappointing. Edit: I realize now it’s not picking up any audio. It’s definitely a problem with the app and not my phone because Medcorder works fine. ### 1/5 — First Question They Ask: “What’s your phone number?” *2022-10-16, version 2.22.1* Installed it. Opened it. Promptly deleted it. The very first question they asked was, “What’s your phone number?” I get it. Ostensibly this is a security feature. But it’s not the only way to provide security. It is one of the only ways to get you on their telemarketing lists. And even if that isn’t their intention, it’s easy enough for an employee to download a copy of the phone database and sell it for a few hundred dollars. Security is best served with options. Use an Authenticator app. Use an email address (and yes, I have disposable email addresses that I make unique for every website and app so I can track to see who has sold my info. And when I get a spam on that email address, it can only have come from one source. So that website or app gets deleted from my life). Or make the user lose their data if they forget their password. We are more than 3 decades into needing to manage passwords. If someone forgets a password, it means they aren’t using a password manager. And they should lose their data. Period. I need an app like this. But all the one’s I’ve seen ask for a phone. Umber. There is no reason for it other than spam or the devs being too lazy to implement an Authenticator app. Download ONLY if you are comfortable not only letting this app listen in on a doctor’s visit but you are also OK it potentially letting a drug company selling a new drug target you with direct phone calls. Because that is absolutely a possibility with this set up. ### 1/5 — FYI: THEY KEEP TOUR DATA HOSTAGE *2022-08-19, version 2.21.0* Once you record something with the app, they decided you cede all rights, and will not allow you to download the audio, or download or print the transcript. The only way to share is if someone else downloads the app, and again, they have no way to print or use the info in any real way. It’s a shame because it had a lot of potential, but not giving me full access to the audio from my own doctor’s appointment is beyond a dealbreaker. ### 1/5 — Not accessible *2021-08-08, version 2.10.0* Downloaded this app for multiple reasons. Couldn’t get past the number verification. I don’t have a cell, just a home phone, they never sent a code. Currently blocked from trying again. Better to use a normal voice recorder. Way easier and less annoying. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — It does what it says ❤️ *2024-08-02* Very needed service, for any human navigating health care for yourself and others you love and support. It is essential for chronic illness management, especially when you have more than one medical condition/specialty to coordinate care. Many medical specialists are not willing to coordinate care with other doctors/specialists. As a layperson/patient/caregiver, it can become quite difficult to coordinate multiple conditions/doctors/specialists. As a multiple chronic illness patient who doesn’t always have a companion during appointments, Abridge is the next best thing (probably better). Currently, there is a waitlist for new users. I’ve had an account for a few years, but have recently had to switch devices a few times. I had a significant number of appointments recorded and I don’t want to lose that history. Support has been super friendly and responsive, but in the end, I was advised to start a new account and get on the waitlist. Use this app. Most doctors are found in the directory connecting a name the audio notes. Highlighted diagnoses and medications are easy to spot and read.
