## What is Accompanist?

Accompanist is a real-time music slow downer and speed changer. Take any song you own and pull the tempo down to learn it — or push it up to performance speed — with the pitch locked to the original key. Built for dancers and teachers, and for any musician learning a song by ear. All in real time, all on your device.

CHANGE SPEED ANY WAY YOU LIKE
• Speed and volume bars always on screen — drag either as the music plays.
• A clear 1× marker to snap back to the original.
• Plus / minus buttons that nudge by 0.01×.
• A type-in field for an exact speed.
• Quick presets across your range.
• Set your own range and centre — from a gentle 0.9–1.1× to a wide 0.25–3×.

KEEP THE PITCH — OR LET IT MOVE
One toggle decides how the music responds:
• ON — tempo changes, pitch stays in the original key. Perfect for drilling choreography slowly, or learning a riff note for note.
• OFF — the classic record-speed effect.
Set the speed back to exactly 1× and the song returns to its original sound.

SEE THE WHOLE SONG AT A GLANCE
A tempo chart maps every speed and volume change across the song, above a waveform of the music — with your loop and markers on it. Drag it to scrub and read values anywhere.

LOOP & DRILL A TRICKY SECTION
• Mark A and B and the music loops that section on repeat — drill a hard 8-count, or a fast solo, as slow as you like.
• The loop region shows right on the progress bar, and clears with one tap.
• Speed Trainer — each time the loop comes round the tempo nudges up, so you build to full speed automatically.

KEEP THE BEAT
• Tap along to set the BPM, then get a "5, 6, 7, 8" count-in before the music starts.
• Turn on the metronome to click along at your tempo while you teach.
• Drop section markers (Intro, Chorus, the lift) and jump straight to any part of a song.

A PROFILE FOR EVERY DANCER (PRO)
• Record your speed and volume changes as a song plays and save them under a dancer's name.
• Press play and the app drives speed and volume for you — hands-free — so you can watch the floor.
• Edit the whole routine point by point in the profile editor.
• Share a profile with another dancer; it reattaches to the same song on their device.
• Profiles back up to iCloud and restore on your other devices.

VOLUME, FADES, AND BOOST
• Per-song volume, independent of your phone's volume.
• Boost above 100% to lift a quiet recording; set your own volume range.
• Smooth fade-in and fade-out.

EXPORT YOUR ADJUSTED SONG (PRO)
Save the music at your chosen speed — following your profile's changing speed and volume — as an audio file. Pick the format, see the size, then play it anywhere.

ORGANIZE INTO FOLDERS
• Add a whole folder and keep its subfolder structure — perfect for a class (Warm Up / Barre / Centre).
• Make your own folders, open them, and play straight through a folder.
• With Accompanist Pro, sync folders across iPhone and iPad over iCloud.
• Share a whole folder — songs and profiles included — with another teacher (Pro) via a link.
• Import from Files, or from Google Drive / Dropbox via Share ▸ Accompanist.
• Pull the audio out of a video (Pro).
• Keep playing in the background and over AirPlay.

MAKE IT YOURS
Six colour themes, from Midnight to Sunset.

ON YOUR APPLE WATCH
Control play/pause, speed, volume and skip from your wrist — run the class without reaching for your phone.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No accounts. No tracking. Your music stays on your device.
The free version shows a small banner on the playlist and settings screens; Pro removes it.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.11.7 — 2026-08-20

Fades that stop where you tell them — and nothing lost by accident.

• "Stop fade" now really stops. The fade no longer carries on across the chart, or into a routine you were recording.
• Choose where a fade lands: end a fade-out at 30% to talk over the music instead of silencing the room.
• Fade length is remembered instead of going back to 5 seconds.
• Discarding a recording asks first — and the button says "Discard" rather than "Cancel".
• The welcome tour now covers fades, and its beat page matches the new tap tempo.
• Tapping the beat now settles on a steady number instead of moving with every tap.
• The metronome and count-in follow the song's speed — slow a track down and the click slows with it.
• Nudge the tempo by one beat at a time, and it's remembered the next time you open the app.
• "Count me in" now works with the metronome switched on.
• The player page fits on screen without scrolling on more iPhones.
• Your library is easier to reach: just tap the song title at the top.

### 1.11.4 — 2026-08-13

• Accompanist now speaks six more languages. The whole app — player, profile editor, tutorials and the Apple Watch app — is now available in German, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Brazilian Portuguese, alongside Spanish, Russian and Chinese.

• Fixed: saving a recorded routine could close whatever screen you were on — Settings, your playlist — and drop you back on the player. In rarer cases the routine you were about to save could be lost with no message at all. The app now waits until the screen is clear before offering to save, and it never discards a take it is holding for you.

### 1.11.3 — 2026-08-11

A guided tour, a rewritten Profile Editor guide, and a fix teachers asked for.

• The Profile Editor now opens the profile you last played. If you have several dancers saved for one song, tapping the editor took you to the oldest routine instead of the one you were just working on.
• New: a short visual walkthrough on first launch, covering adding music, changing speed, saving a profile per dancer, recording, A–B drilling and the metronome.
• The Profile Editor guide has been rewritten as illustrated pages that show each gesture — including how the speed lane holds a value while the volume lane slides between them.
• Both walkthroughs can be reopened any time from Settings → Help.

### 1.10.0 — 2026-07-29

• Your speed dial is now a live speed & volume chart — scrub it like the timeline to read the exact tempo and volume at any moment in your routine.
• A rebuilt profile editor: drag points right on the chart, pinch to zoom into a tricky passage, and keep your place with an overview of the whole song.
• See every beat — the editor draws a high-resolution waveform of your music, so you can line your speed and volume changes up to the sound itself.
• Undo and redo any edit, and touch and hold either button to see everything you've changed.
• Hear it as you build it, with a mini player built into the editor.
• Speed buttons your way — pick your own one-tap speeds, or let them follow your range automatically. New 0.9–1.1× range for fine rehearsal work.
• Timeline scrubbing gains finger-precision: slide your finger up while dragging for finer seeking. Plus a clearer loudness waveform and a one-tap A–B loop reset.
• Fixed folder sharing and saved-profile taps.

### 1.8.0 — 2026-07-21

We gave the Pro membership page a refresh:

• Clearer at a glance — see exactly what Pro unlocks, and what's always free.
• The yearly plan now shows your savings and its equivalent monthly price, so it's easy to pick the plan that fits.

Plus the usual round of performance and stability improvements. Thank you for using Accompanist — happy dancing!
