### 2/5 — New update ruined the app

*2026-07-22, version 3.4.0*

This app used to be great and very user friendly. The new version is very difficult to find items and some every day items aren’t even on it. I continue using the app because it’s my only real option but the new update is awful.

### 2/5 — Expected a more sophisticated app

*2026-06-16*

The “Learning Center” is helpful on here. However, the UI really isn’t great. I find myself tapping several buttons/tabs to try to get to the right screen.

This app is helpful if a product has already been added, but beware, some listings are outdated and don’t reflect the current ingredients. None of the items I’ve submitted for review have been added after months of waiting.

Since most products I’m searching for aren’t on the app, I’d be nice to be able to search specific ingredients and just piece together products myself. I reached out about that via email so maybe they’ll add that functionality in the future. Instead, I’ve uploaded my allergen list into Chat GPT and rely on a custom model that I’ve trained to alert me of any allergens/possible allergens in an ingredient list. 🤷‍♀️

### 3/5 — Not user friendly nor up-to-date

*2026-02-27*

I found the previous version of this app much easier to use and much more user-friendly. This version has a lot of discontinued items in it. Also, the way items are returned in searches, makes it hard to see the full title sometimes and it’s just confusing overall. Can the app be updated to remove discontinued items or give users the ability to let you know of discontinued items by the click of a checkbox? If not, this would be a good option to add. Is there a way to remove specific brands from searches? If not, this would be a good option to add as well. Being Canadian, there are a lot of brands listed in this app that we cannot purchase in Canada and if I could remove those from searches, it would make it much easier.

### 3/5 — Could be Better

*2026-02-07, version 2.9*

A lot of items don’t have photos with the name. The scanner is extremely finicky. Half of the time it won’t scan items. I usually have to take a photo of the barcode and upload it. It’s good for identifying ingredients so far.

### 2/5 — Needs scan adjustment

*2026-02-06*

I can’t scan any item, it doesn’t focus

### 1/5 — Scanning feature

*2026-02-06, version 2.9*

The scanning feature is picky with the bar codes it will scan. It seems to have problems focusing on the bar codes. It’s not my because it’s new.

### 2/5 — Barcode Scanner blurry!

*2026-01-29, version 2.9*

I love this app, but after the last update my barcode scanner pictures are always blurry, so blurry that it can’t read the barcode!! Please fix!

### 2/5 — Great concept. Needs major improvement

*2026-01-28*

My allergist set me up on this site after completing chemical allergy testing. It is a great concept but not so great in terms of functionality. It is clunky and I have a hard time finding products that are current and available in Canada. I wish they would work with the cosmetics industry to partner and make this more useful

### 1/5 — So hard to follow

*2026-01-12, version 2.9*

This app used to be easy to follow. I like the scan aspect, but it never works right or can’t find products. I dread having to find a new products in this app now because it takes so long and is not easy to figure out. Plus half the stuff they mark “safe” isn’t even around anymore or it’s a new name. Things that are normal house hold items can’t be found either. It’s really a waste of a resource most the time.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-01-04, version 2.9*

This app is difficult to use. The scanner is terrible. Most of the products recommended are discontinued. Popular products that have been on the market for years are not listed. Just terrible and frustrating!

### 1/5 — Won’t scan after latest update

*2025-12-10, version 2.9*

Loved this app but now it’s unusable

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2025-12-07, version 2.9*

I don’t think anyone is taking care or working on updating this app. It feels like it’s been forgotten about. Someone else said that information about ingredients are inaccurate and that’s true. Bare Minerals isn’t even in here. 😞Dermatological allergies are miserable and whoever runs this app doesn’t seem to care AT ALL. Dermatologists who use this app should be angry because this app is one of the reasons we go to a certain
dermatologist.

### 2/5 — Camera Function Does Not Work

*2025-11-11, version 2.7*

I just downloaded this app yesterday after leaving the allergist. The camera barcode thing will not work. I have other apps on my phone with the camera thing and they all work fine. Can’t see how this will be very helpful.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-11-06, version 2.7*

The app is terrible. We were diagnosed with an allergy in summer of 2024 so I’ve been using this app for around a year. Initially, I contacted the company to tell them that most products were saying “under review” or “upc code not registered”. They said please check back every week or so as items get added. One year later tge app has the same results. I’ve scanned three items this morning. None of them were uploaded or worked properly. It really could be a valuable tool if it worked properly. Hopefully, someone who uses this app will take the idea and make an app that is useful.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2025-11-01*

Missing a lot of common/ popular products and brands. I have submitted several items for review over 4 months ago and they still have not been added. Requires a product barcode to submit a product for review which makes it difficult if it is not something you have previously purchased. And despite this, almost every product that is included in the app is missing a picture and accurate name. Hard to trust it is reliable. Additionally, the names of my allergens in the app do not match up with the names of ingredients it tells me are “unsafe” in certain products. There is not a good info guide on how to determine other names for my allergens that might show up in ingredient lists. I end up googling on my own to try and figure it out.

### 3/5 — Suggestion and Can AI help?

*2025-10-14, version 2.7*

I’ve been using this app frequently the last few weeks and would LOVE to be able to just take a picture/scan the ingredients of an item and get and instant report indicating if it’s safe or unsafe.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Faulty

*2026-06-27, version 3.4.0*

I use this app to avoid chemicals I am allergic to. However there is a new display bug; when I click on any product under the UNSAFE list, the product listing switched to Safe! This is dangerous. Please fix this weird bug

### 1/5 — Do Not Use

*2026-06-21, version 3.4.0*

Do not use this app. I have allergic contact dermatitis. I went through patch testing and was diagnosed with multiple allergies, one of which being Balsam de Peru. This app needs to be pulled. I had a very severe reaction to Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen which was marked as safe on the app. However, after a severe flare and being completely confused as to what is going on with my skin, I did a deeper dive on the sunscreen. It contains a chemical called Octocrylene. This chemical is a synthetic cinnamate derivative. Do not use this app if you have a newly diagnosed Balsam de Peru allergen, it will not help with identifying cross reactions.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-06-17*

I was genuinely excited when I first downloaded this app. As someone with multiple chemical allergies, I thought it would become an essential tool for helping me identify products that contain ingredients I need to avoid.
Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. While the concept is excellent, I found that the vast majority of products I searched for or scanned were not included in the database. Time and again, I was unable to find information on products I own or was considering purchasing. Because of this, the app has proven to be far less practical and useful than I had anticipated. I rarely use it now, as I cannot depend on it to provide information on enough products to make a meaningful difference in my daily life. The idea behind the app is outstanding, but its usefulness is currently limited by the lack of comprehensive product coverage.

### 1/5 — Out of date

*2026-06-04, version 3.3.0*

This app is horribly out of date. There have been products on here for a year that are still under review. I have to rely on this app for every single thing I use and it’s impossible to find products because it hasn’t been updated in years it seems. Companies are changing product ingredients constantly and this app never updates. I’m told to only use things on my safe list but it gets harder by the month. This needs to be addressed, I rely on this!!

### 1/5 — Not compatible with iPhone

*2026-04-08, version 3.1.0*

Unfortunately, not mobile friendly which defeats the purpose of having an app. Unable to see any products because half the screen is entirely cut off.

### 1/5 — So Hit or Miss

*2026-03-26, version 3.1.0*

I've had this app for about 3 years. I don't know what development is being done or how they are testing. Sometimes when I use the app, it pulls up what I need and is usable. Other times, like today, I try searching for anything in any category or shows up with nothing. Whoever the developer is, I would recommend better testing and QA to ensure you're not breaking things each time you push a new version. Love the idea, horrible execution.

### 1/5 — Needs updating

*2026-03-23, version 3.1.0*

For someone who relies on this app to choose every single product for my life, this is app is absolutely awful. Half of the products on here aren’t even made or sold anymore. I have had products “Under review” for almost a year. WE NEED AN UPDATE. I was told to only use products approved on this app but there’s barely anything here. This makes my life extremely difficult. In today’s digital age, this does not make any sense to me.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2026-03-22, version 3.1.0*

This app was great until they decided to upgrade it several months ago. You can’t find more than half of everything you scan, the pictures they add are not helpful like they used to be. My dermatologist is not happy with the updated version of this app either. It’s really too bad. They rolled out this update long, long before it was ready.

### 1/5 — Limited information

*2026-03-10, version 3.0.0*

It seems that every product I scan is either under review or not available. I wanted to like this app but it’s not very helpful.

### 1/5 — Used to be great until they updated to the new app

*2026-02-09*

I miss the old app. This new one could be great, but most simple everyday products are not even on it. I have to go look at the Skin Safe website to find them. I have tried adding products, but they are all still “processing” months and months later. The “purchase” option is still inactive. The new app still won’t work on any device that has a VPN despite multiple emails to tech support. I have found several items that are included in both my safe and unsafe categories. The app is not reliable anymore to provide accurate information and has resulted in an allergic reaction.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Game Changer for Managing Contact Dermatitis

*2026-07-09, version 3.4.0*

I absolutely love this app! As someone dealing with contact dermatitis, it’s been a lifesaver for finding products that won’t irritate my skin. It’s user friendly, accurate, and has quickly become one of my must-have tools for managing sensitive skin.

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2026-05-07, version 3.2.9*

We have a good luck with the app for the type of chemicals that granddaughter is allergic to. We love that we can scan the barcode now this is so much easier than it was before

### 5/5 — Derm recco

*2026-02-08, version 3.0.0*

Helps navigate complex sensitivities and allergies

### 5/5 — So appreciated

*2025-02-18, version 2.4*

I’m so grateful for this resource! Being able to check a product in the store is a game changer!

### 5/5 — There’s a way to find out if the item is not on your list due to your allergies

*2021-04-19*

You can search for any brand that has products in the database, even if none of their products are safe for you. If you search the brand and it doesn’t show up, then it isn’t in the database and you can then check the product ingredients.

### 5/5 — Beginner user

*2019-03-23*

I hate to say it, but I tested allergic to quite a few of the chemicals and I am simply grateful to have this app. It sure helps with not having to bring a binder with me everywhere I go to see if I am allergic to the products I purchase. This is going to be a rough life since I live in a world of daily chemicals used! Maybe in a few months, this app will have a way for me to scan an item that is sold and I will know immediately if I should purchase the product item or put it back on the shelf! Thanks and let’s see if I can make it through this sensitivity of mine!!! God bless this team of developers and gatherers for helping those like myself with chemical sensitivity! It has been a tough road for me and thankful for every result I get from Dr. Martin and ACDS Camp!

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2018-04-26, version 1.0*

Love it! Would be great to be able to submit products for review.

### 5/5 — Extremely Handy App

*2017-04-29*

Was recently tested and I’m allergic to 4 allergens. The app stores the complex names of the substances, which I can reference when I need them, and also lists products that don't contain them as a reference when I'm shopping. You can even save a list of favorite products. This app is so handy and convenient. One suggestion for an update, would love to be able to list products that do contain the allergens as a quick way to know what to avoid.

### 4/5 — The camera works again

*2025-12-12, version 2.9*

Immediately after getting the latest update, the camera would no longer focus on barcodes. Now, after the latest iPhone update, it works again.

### 4/5 — So Helpful

*2025-02-21, version 2.4*

This app has been so helpful with navigating my new allergies! I do wish I had the ability to click on an ingredient and see WHY it’s an allergen.
