The Course is the result of the collaboration between two Columbia University psychologists: Dr. William T. Thetford and his colleague, Dr. Helen Schucman. In 1965, Helen experienced what she described as a Voice which spoke clearly in her mind, saying “This is a course in miracles. Please take notes.” With Thetford’s support and assistance in transcribing her shorthand notes, Dr. Schucman took down some 1,500 typewritten pages of A Course in Miracles over a period of seven years. The voice, which spoke through Helen, clearly identified himself as Jesus. The “original edition” is the unabridged volume of the Course as it was completed by Dr. Schucman and Dr. Thetford in 1972 and before further editing had taken place. Course in Miracles Society [CIMS] is a 501 (c)(3) [non-profit] organization incorporated in 2000 which holds the copyright on A Course in Miracles Original Edition©. It is an international group of Course students and teachers organized to discover, authenticate, and propagate the Divine Teachings of A COURSE IN MIRACLES. In the months preceding the beginning of the dictation of A Course in Miracles, Dr. Helen Schucman experienced a series of vivid waking and sleeping dreams. In three of those dreams, she was presented with a book. It was thick and black and had large gold letters on the cover. In one of those dreams, she saw it draped in a strand of pearls. That image is reproduced in the artwork for this edition in homage to Dr. Schucman’s perseverance and dedication to the completion of the Course. There is an ancient symbolism to pearls. From the earliest of times, pearls have been considered miraculous. Unique in all the world of nature, their beauty comes from the most mundane of substances and yet, it is somehow transformed by a living organism into one of the most beautiful objects known to man. Highly appreciated! Unfortunately since the last update the great audio function enabling you to listen to the texts being read to you DOES NOT work anymore at all. (No error message displayed.) That makes it awkward to use, easier to try to find a paper copy if possible. It would also be better if at least the part most recently viewed were downloaded, better still if all were, as going back to it later when out of Wifi range means the page/lesson is not viewable. I can’t even bear to listen to it at the delay and speed. I use the reading feature on my iPhone but wish it was just in the app so I can adjust it. It’s waaaaaay too slow. Maybe it’s there and I can’t find it? Also, how do we cut the music out while he reads. I feel like I am missing something. Can’t imagine that there aren’t any choices. I can’t listen and hear words when music is in the background. I have a condition that i cannot listen to music. It’s an irritant to my brain. Please separate the music from the voice. I find this to be a great app to listen to while I am doing other simple things like driving or watering the garden. The music and pace of speech is perfect for me while I am doing other things. The calming music seems to put me into a place where I am more able to comprehend the true meaning of the course which I have found difficult to do by reading and studying the course. Overall, it feels like this app helps me to let go of all the craziness in this world and be more receptive to the amazing teachings in A Course In Miracles. This app is helping me realize all of God’s blessings are within us and it is merely our responsibility to let go and decide to truly trust God. However, once I got to Chapter 9, the audio only works for every other section and this continues in Chapter 10 and perhaps beyond. I have an iPhone and restarted it a few times hoping the problem would go away. I am left to assume the recordings have been erased on the server? I waited several minutes for each blank recording to come on but nothing ever happened. Recordings that work only take a second or two to load. Overall, this is an awesome app and I love the relaxing music, calm voice, and pace of the recordings. I just wished all recordings worked as I am having a hard time understanding The Course given the missing sections. My understanding of The Course increased significantly listening to the recordings. I think the calmness somehow has a better way of channeling the message to me verses reading it myself or with others. I just downloaded your App. It looks great, very complete with all three sections and audio. I appreciate all of your work! However, I find the audio speaker’s voice a bit slow for my ears and taste. And, some may find it a bit fast to follow. Most audio Apps have the ability to set the audio speed to various rates; 0.8, 1, 1.25, 1.5, etc. I think this App would be just perfect if you could add an audio speed button like most audio Apps to accommodate those of us whose ears and brains process words at a different rate than the speaker is reading!
