A Course in Miracles began with the sudden decision of two people to join in a common goal. Their names were Helen Schucman and William Thetford, Professors of Medical Psychology at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. As its title implies, the Course is arranged throughout as a teaching device. It consists of three books: a 669-page Text, a 488-page Workbook for Students, and a 92-page Manual for Teachers. The order in which students choose to use the books, and the ways in which they study them, depend on their particular needs and preferences. The curriculum the Course proposes is carefully conceived and is explained, step by step, at both the theoretical and practical levels. It emphasises application rather than theory, and experience rather than theology. It specifically states that “a universal theology is impossible, but a universal experience is not only possible but necessary” (Manual, p.~77). Although Christian in statement, the Course deals with universal spiritual themes. It emphasises it is but one version of the universal curriculum. There are many others, this one differing from them only in form. There are other Course apps now, but this one - at once simple and thorough - is still the best. Having the complete Course on my phone makes it available to me any time and anywhere. The reminder function actually makes it possible for me to actually visit workbook lessons on the hour and half-hour as they sometimes ask. (Possible, but still never yet fully successful!) The search function makes it possible to look up any word in the Course. Using this, I have found many quotations buried deep within the text that would have been lost, probably never to be found again. The search function also brings me to new ideas and insights by making it possible for me to compare all the different ways a word is used in the text. I have much fuller and more complete working knowledge of basic words like “forgiveness,” “guilt,” or “atonement” because of this. I also use the app to read and meditate on the workbook lesson every day. Since it’s on my phone, when I need assistance I can bring in my favorite commentators for help at any time. I so appreciate this little app. It is helping to bring me into a whole new world of understanding and power Thank you! ### 4/5 — Very good app, but can be a little better too:) *2022-03-12* Overall, this is a very good app, with lots of great functionality. I especially appreciate the ability to underline sections of text and also create comments and notes. The search function is also extremely good! I highly recommend the app. Notes to developer for improvements: 1) when I tried to contact your support site from the App Store, the attempts constantly timed out and your server did not work. Please fix this so that we can contact support from the App Store. 2) please give the ability to store a group of underlined passages into a group name. Then, if we clear the underlined passages but later want a specific group of them back, allow us to restore a given set of underlines by its group name with a simple command. 3) when we do a search and then click on a search result and are taken to the resulting text, please allow the notes and underlining functions to be directly accessible from those text pages. Currently, if we want to add notes or underlines, we must go out of the search text and back to the book text and look up the text and then underline or take notes from there. This is a lot of trouble. Thank you for a great app and for striving to make it even better! ### 5/5 — I Am So Grateful for this App *2021-09-27* I'm still finding my way around the app, but it is a wondrous thing! I used to listen to this lovely voice on You Tube, but having it connected so intimately to visible text raises my ability to comprehend the text, by both hearing it read reading along without having to hold the book. Controlling where I can pause it to reflect on what I have heard and read is most helpful, as is the ability to underline, and listen again and again as I absorb what ai am hearing. Where I live now, I no longer have an ACIM group meeting where we can read and reflect together, and I have missed that so much. But the app goes far to keeping me 'connected' by enhancing my participation in the apprehension of The Course. You can listen to the text with music or you can choose to turn the music off. We can use the table of contents to find and listen to any part of the text we want. In Audible, the chapter numbers have no relationship to where you are in the text, but this app lets you choose exactly which section you want to listen to.I also like to set however many reminders I want and when I get them.
