I mean, I get it, there’s probably only one person working on it, and they’ve probably got more projects than just writing and supporting this app, and plus there’s a web app *and* an android app, so I can’t be too hard on them. still, between the buggy nmea2000 implementation on the CB2 (no way to disable individual nmea2k messages, and the device doesn’t negotiate for who’s the master GPS on the network, just spews GPS data) and the poorly-documented works-sometimes-kinda iOS app, I’m honestly regretting my decision to get the CB2. here’s some bugs: - when I try to have the CB2 join my local wifi network, which it claims to be able to do, it just creates a new network with the same SSID as my local network and never tries to join the current one. if I select ‘direct’ when configuring the network, it creates its own network but the app doesn’t automatically use that ssid and tries to reconnect to “ACR_AIS” again. - if I swipe up too far in the app while scrolling down in the larger pages, the connection drops and puts me back at the main menu pretty sure the rest of the bugs I’m frustrated with are in the hardware implementation. I understand that the law says the ais transponder has to have its own gps antenna, but why, when both of my gps antennas are less than 1m apart horizontally (though 12m apart vertically, the main one is at the top of my sailboat mast and the ACR one is at deck level) - why does the ACR gps antenna consistently read 60m away from my position? two other handheld GPS units confirm my position agrees with the masthead unit. ...and that’s the REAL frustration for me - the AIS GPS being 60m off from my other primary GPS... now there’s two “sources of truth” on my network. which means that both OpenCPN and Navionics are struggling, with my own-boat indicator jumping around like crazy as it tries to interpret all the incoming position messages. the other day I had a two-hour sail, but Navionics reported it as over 50,000 nautical miles sailed, just because my position jumped back and forth so much! argh. I’m tired and frustrated. I hope there’s an app update to address the app bugs, but even more I hope there’s a firmware update to bring this device up to the standards I was expecting from the ACR-Artex name. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Possibly the worst app I’ve ever used *2026-03-27* I have a difficult time believing that this high end rescue device will work as intended based on this associated app ### 1/5 — Useless app *2025-03-21* Can’t even login. Every time I try to connect to the epirb it crashes and restarts. I am unable to retrieve any test results or battery level. The link to the manuals doesn’t even work. I think/hope the epirb is good and working but if the app is any indication of ACRs technology, I have to wonder. ### 1/5 — 2024: app still garbage *2024-10-27* Just dropped $1000 on a V5 EPIRB and registered it. I’m confident in the device but this app is useless. Did they ship the dev version? No embedded help, not even a link to the YT video that shows how to use NCR.
