Most of the multi-pack sources have reset at volume 1. I can’t see which volumes I’ve purchased, or find unpurchased packs to buy them. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed the app and bought dozens of puzzle packs. **Developer response:** Oh no! This wasn't our intent. Please email us at support@eggheadgames.com and we'll give you coupons to get past this problem. We upgraded to Apple's latest purchasing code and somehow in some weird corner case, it seems some volume 1 purchases were lost which seems to be causing this. We can usually fix it with a coupon or few. Again, apologies for this! ### 3/5 — Great app but I’ve run out of games *2025-01-07* I been happily using this app for several years and played each puzzle at least twice. But they don’t seem to be adding anymore puzzles. When I attempted to email them from their service page, after I’d filled out the email form it told me that using that form was forbidden (say what?). Anyway, I’d love it if they’d add some more acrostic collections but I guess I’ll have to find another app. Ce la vie! **Developer response:** Edit: we've found and fixed the problem with the form. My mother used to buy these magazines and I’d spend hours trying to figure them out. Fun to see them in an app. However some of the puzzles are very dated. ### 5/5 — Great Puzzle App *2023-04-18* This is one of my favorite apps. I’ve enjoyed acrostics since I was a kid, but doing them on paper required lots of transferring letters from one part of the puzzle to another (it reminded me of double-entry bookkeeping). With this app, both halves of the puzzle are kept in synch, so it’s easier to guess words and see if they fit. The puzzles themselves are well-constructed, with a mix of tricky and easy clues. And the add-on packs let you keep refreshing new puzzles at a reasonable cost. Many thanks to the developers! ### 5/5 — Best Acrostic Puzzle App Ever *2023-01-17, version 4.8.9* I love acrostic puzzles because the best of them set my brain on fire. This app, especially with v 4.8.9, lets me be fully immersed as I bounce seamlessly from clues to grid and back. I can see what’s important at each stage and enter or erase flawlessly. Egghead Games’ Acrostics is the best acrostic app I’ve ever used, and the range of puzzles goes from easy right up to the acrostaholic pinnacle. My favorite puzzles usually are the themed CynAcrostics, which I find comparable to the New York Times’ acrostics. (Later.) But right now I’m having a wonderful time on her American Acrostic Volume 10, “Puzzling American Music”. I literally can’t put it down as one puzzle feeds into the next! ### 5/5 — CAN NOT OPEN! Deleted twice, re-downloaded, rebooted the phone, chanted magic incantations, laid on hands, burned incense… Nothing! Tap to open. BLINK! Gone!! However, since the 4.8 update of June 2022, there seems to be no way to purchase puzzle packs on ipad. I've contacted support with no response, I'm hoping posting something here will get someone to notice. I've tried many times and while I can see the packs for sale, there is no way to purchase them. Please help! EDIT: problem fixed in new 4.8.1 version! Support was great! **Developer response:** Edit: I'm so glad we were able to find and fix this - with the help of people like yourself. Regardless, there has been a general Apple problem with purchasing lately that we've been trying to find a workaround for. It's affecting many apps and even Apple's own store (some volumes can be purchased there). The least-worst workaround we've found is restarting the device, and trying again, or, if possible, trying to purchase on a different device. If the problem resists these workarounds, then I'd REALLY like to hear from you so we can give you a special version that might help us narrow it down (and I'll be sure to get you some extra volumes too!). Had fun with some of those. Added $3.99 in app purchase, now I can’t even open the app anymore. It immediately shuts down. ### 1/5 — It would be nice if this worked *2020-01-31, version 4.0.6* Paid 3.99, downloaded a set, and couldn’t open it. Stupidly, I thought the problem might be on my end, and downloaded another set. Same non-result. Apple support shrugged, told me it wasn’t their problem, and pretty much recommended that I give a 1-star review and hope that the developer responded and took some responsibility. We’ll see. ### 2/5 — Buggy *2024-02-26, version 4.10.2* There are some issues here. Sometimes the clue states that the answer is two words, but it’s only one. Choosing to erase mistakes will sometimes erase correct letters. I’ll immediately put the correct answer back in and retry to erase mistakes for the correct answer to now remain. There’s a bunch of little things like this that make this app not worth investing my time or money in. Update: to the developer, the puzzle where I experienced the most issues, and the one that caused me to stop, but not the only puzzle where I experienced these issues, is the one that uses a quote from Simon Singh’s “The Code Book.” I was on the newest app update, iPhone 14 Pro Max w/ most recent version of iOS. I don’t recall any specifics about which individual puzzles than what I listed above. I played around 40 puzzles and was working my way through the expert puzzles. I hope that helps. I can add some specifics about the puzzle I listed. I had all answers correct and the puzzle wouldnt finish. It stated that I had an incorrect answer. Checking for mistakes erased correct letters and I put those back in and finally got it to accept that the puzzle was finished. I recall one answer being “selectw”. It would erase the first e and t and did so multiple times. Then it was just the t that was erased and then it stopped marking it as incorrect. ### 2/5 — Works great on iPad. Not so great on MacBook *2024-01-19, version 4.9.11* The app plays well on the IPad but on the M1 MacBook, despite the store saying it will work on Macs, you can't enter letters into the grid. Instead you hear a beeping noise every time you try. So, a very mixed review. ### 2/5 — Lacking *2023-01-17, version 4.8.9* When I first downloaded this, I found the puzzles to be fun. There was a good selection of easy and difficult. But when you add packages, they don’t tell you the difficulty, you just choose one, and I found they were WAY too easy. There’s no challenge when you can finish it as fast as you can type! I’d recommend listing the difficulty in the additional packages, and offering some more challenging ones. ### 2/5 — Can’t open now *2022-12-02, version 4.8.5* Just purchased a new puzzle pack and the app won’t open now. I’ve enjoyed this app immensely until today. ### 2/5 — Disappointing *2021-12-05* Even on full size iPad, the display is pretty awkward, as the clues and solution really can't fit on the screen. I was disappointed in the puzzles themselves. Some were fine but a big chunk of them are in Spanish and too many are heavily British in word choice, clues, and sometimes spelling. I especially hated the ones by Cyn, attempting a show-off humor, usually with a British slant that left the clue incomprehensible even after I'd solved the puzzle from the other words. **Developer response:** Thanks for the review! First, please contact support to get a refund if you're not satisfied for any reason. If you're not happy, I'm not either. Some specifics: Screen space is never enough for acrostics, so several mechanisms exist to improve this: "pinch/zoom" the grid area, plus you can hide individual areas with the buttons on the top. Re puzzles: there are 10 sample puzzles from 6 publishers (60 puzzles total) who are all quite different, including one Spanish publisher Tav Ripo. Lovatts has British puzzles. Penny Dell and Puzzle Baron puzzles are the most "mainstream". Acrostics by Cyn and Acrostica puzzles tend to be preferred by acrostics enthusiasts and are mostly USA English. I love the way this digitized version lets you experiment with words and do an easy erasure and re-do. ### 5/5 — Best of the Best *2025-03-17* I have played these Acrostic games by Egghead for years and absolutely love them. The format of the puzzles runs smoothly and I like the fact you can have a little help if you want it. The content of each puzzle is interesting and often amusing. A good form of entertainment that keeps me on my toes mentally. I had a problem with my iPad and lost all of my purchases. Egghead responded immediately and restored everything right away. Good people to work with. ### 5/5 — Love This App *2025-02-27* This is one of my favorite apps. Really like the different challenge levels. My favorite game is Acrostics by Cyn. Would like to see more of those. If you like word games and haven’t yet tried an acrostic, you should give this one a try. When I recently had a problem with the game not opening, I couldn’t believe how responsive Michael was. He had the problem fixed in no time. Later when both mom and sis passed away, I didn’t bother. Now that I am retired and need exercise my little brain cells and to conserve our trees, I found this app. Boy, so easy and thoroughly enjoyable. Keep them coming….. ### 5/5 — This is the only game I play on my phone *2024-04-28* It’s how I get to sleep at night, the only thing that helps my insomnia. I play it for 30-45 minutes and it wears my brain out enough to finally sleep. Works better than melatonin. Wish they had anagram magic squares as a game app though.
