### 3/5 — Feature needed

*2023-09-18, version 1.10.6*

Would love if there was a way to test my strength in different movements and see how they progess over time without being in a workout.

### 3/5 — Needs more data

*2022-03-08, version 1.6.0*

This app is for the activ5 dynamometer / force sensor. It should allow users to see all data. This app needs a raw data output screen, so we can see force over time on a chart, without the need to open up an exercise.

It would also be cool to measure max grip strength, among other things, to show off the device to others. I'd love to hand someone my activ5 and challenge them to beat a max grip strength or other type of high score.

### 3/5 — Custom workout

*2022-03-06, version 1.6.0*

Would be nice to be able to create a custom workout for those of us who are not fitness experts. Why does it need to test my strength each time? Especially if I am rerunning an exercise. Why do I need to choose to return to the exercises or repeat each time? All this overhead.

### 2/5 — Update issue

*2021-04-07, version 1.3.3*

Most recent App update deleted my logged in access. Using my same email and original password wasn’t recognized! Used password “forgot feature” and waited on email with renew access information! Noting received. Evidently lost all history and setup information! NOT A GOOD JOB ON VALIDATION UPGRADE FUNCTION!

### 4/5 — Needs to have workouts from the classic app!

*2021-03-25, version 1.3.2*

I like the idea of setting your own strength for each exercise, especially since I like to use my Activ5 in the mornings. I would like to see workouts from the classic app, however, or at least the ability to customize a workout routine (adding exercises to a routine, setting the time for each one, etc.).

### 4/5 — Good when you work out how to do old app exercises

*2020-10-29, version 1.1.3*

Disappointed at first as didn’t have the old exercise routine for seated. I’ve finally worked out how to do the old exercise routine.Go through the all exercises and ‘heart’ the all the exercises from the old seated exercise routine (if that’s what you’re missing) and when you go back to exercises in the Train section is there is a heart at top of page with all your favourite exercises. Then when you go into it you get the option to have the exercises follow on after each other. So really works out better because you can make your own exercise routine up which you couldn’t do in the old app. Also in profile go to themes and change from basic to spaceship, hot air balloon or speedboat.

### 4/5 — Won’t rotate for IPad

*2020-10-09, version 1.1.1*

Love the concept of this device. Makes exercise fun for a couch potato. Very frustrated the app will not rotate to use with an iPad in a case.

### 4/5 — Love this but it needs a beginner workout

*2020-10-07, version 1.1.1*

I’m using my Activ5 everyday. Even in confined spaces I can work out. I’m not a complete newbie and I thought I was fairly fit but the intermediate workout is proving challenging. There isn’t an easy version where you can gradually build up to doing the full exercise and it would be great to have videos rather than the static pictures and to be able to cast the app onto my TV or laptop when I’m exercising at home. Those are minor niggles but the lack of a beginner workout might put some people off.

### 1/5 — Use the old grey app

*2020-04-26, version 1.0.1*

Only just bought my Activ5 and was prompted to download this new app. Struggled with workout instructions and finding exercises for couch, office etc. Downloaded the old ‘grey’ app and massive difference. It’s much more clear and concise. My advice...delete this app and stick to the older one

### 2/5 — Not as good as the old app

*2020-04-24, version 1.0.0*

Yes it looks cleaner and the Apple Watch integration is much smoother. However, in every other way this app is a downgrade to the classic (grey icon) version. The instructions for each pose are hidden by a flick up which is very close to the Home Indicator. You can’t start the workout until you dismiss the tiny instructions text. This kills the flow of a workout, makes me have to interact with the phone so much every time.

Seriously - just copy paste the workout view you had for the old app and this would be perfect.

### 3/5 — Ok App missing

*2020-04-23, version 1.0.0*

Missing Ability to create your own routine. This would make it far more useful to me than waiting for my physical therapist to adopt the expensive version, learn about it, figure out what works, then develop exercises close to the already created one. Hey Activ5, let me create my own!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App no longer pairs with device

*2026-07-23, version 1.12.8*

They let the early adopters down by not maintaining the app. On a phone running iOS 26.5, device cannot be found in Bluetooth. Nor can you pair it in the app: the LED light on the exercise device alternatively flashes green, then blue, with an error message of “cannot connect. Try again later”.

### 1/5 — Love the device, hate this app

*2025-04-14, version 1.11.0*

Seems to allow no flexibility for choice of exercises besides its presets. Isn’t there a Freeform option?

### 1/5 — Potentially great, but flawed execution

*2024-01-10, version 1.10.6*

Really wanted to give this a 5* review, but every time I try to get back to using it I get frustrated.

The first issue is hardware… why is it not rechargable, or at least designed to easily replace the battery? The awkward and fragile clips to get to the battery feel like they’re going to break every time I replace it (which is every time I dig it out of the drawer and think maybe I’ll try again)

Second, and the reason it ends up back in the drawer, is the app. It’s iPhone and ‘portrait’ only. No landscape on an iPad, which really isn’t a huge ask for a device that’s really designed to use landscape and that’s how the folios, cases, and even the stand that comes with the device encourage you to use it that way (the iPad falls off if I do put it in portrait orientation!). I gave this feedback when I bought the device - 3, maybe 4, years ago now, support said it was coming “real soon” … guess their idea of soon and mine isn’t the same.

Fix the software, and I’d consider it a 4 star device (the battery situation is going to cost it the final star).

Right now, once again, the device is sitting on my desk, open, waiting for a battery … that I’m probably not going to bother putting in because the landscape issue means I know I’ll use it for a week, never get into the habit, and back in the drawer it’ll go

### 1/5 — Crashed at open

*2022-12-19, version 1.9.2*

Crashes at ooen

### 1/5 — JUNK

*2022-01-06, version 1.5.2*

You can’t even set this up with an iPhone 11. When you try to set it up, the only weight it will let you enter is 120 pounds and the only height it would let me enter was 7‘11“. I guess if you are a 7 foot long piece of pipe this will work for you. If you’re a human keep looking. I can’t believe Apple actually sells this in their stores

### 1/5 — Why no landscape view

*2020-12-27, version 1.2.1*

It would be great if this app would run in landscape mode. It’s much easier when using it on an iPad.

### 1/5 — Not an improvement on Classic

*2020-09-16, version 1.1.0*

The classic app for this device isn't perfect, but the new and don't one is useless on the iPad. Unlike classic it does not support the larger screen properly (2x magnification just looks clumsy) and no landscape mode so you can't use it in a lot of cases.
disappointing considering the price of the device

### 1/5 — Not As Good

*2020-08-29, version 1.0.4*

The Activ5 Classic app is, unfortunately, so much better. Combined weight totals are much more addictive to chase. There are a better variety of workouts for seated only (I’m a wheelchair user) and the new app has a bug making the double squeeze to start an exercise not work. I also prefer the continuous pressure trail in classic compared to the stop and start straight trail of the new app... Such a shame...

### 1/5 — No coaching curve

*2020-05-29, version 1.0.1*

There is no “curve” with any on the exercises in this app - it’s a straight line and then rest. Quite boring and not challenging enough. Looks like the “curve” is available in the classic app and not this one.

### 1/5 — Non Responsive

*2020-05-16, version 1.0.1*

I’ve recently found my Activ5 and wanted to start using it. Got the recent app, and it just hangs all the time. I couldn’t sign in, it doesn’t show photos of the work outs. I downloaded the Classic version and it worked fine. This app needs some serious work before it’s ready to be used by us.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great!

*2026-06-04, version 1.12.8*

A great app for a wonderful exercise machine. Isometric exercises are so important, and being able to measure your strength progress with this tool is fantastic.

### 5/5 — Amazing System. Underappreciated.

*2021-06-09, version 1.4.1*

I’m shocked at how few App Store reviews there are for this system and I hope that doesn’t discourage the makers/developers from continuing work in this product because I think it’s amazing. A full strength workout with a device that fits in the palm of your hand. An app with a multitude of workouts and programs to keep things fresh. What’s not to love? Especially in the pandemic, I can’t believe this thing didn’t take off. It’s perfect for quick workouts in between zoom meetings. And when we get back to normal, I’ll definitely be packing this for work trips to fit workouts in on long flights, in my hotel room, etc. Wonderful product - I hope this never gets abandoned!!!

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2021-01-23, version 1.2.2*

I started using before reading the reviews and was surprised by the negativity as found the app very easy to navigate. There are plenty of workouts that flow from one exercise to the next as well as the choice to choose under ideal exercises. If you “favourite” individual exercises it then gives you the option to turn them into you own workout by automatically flowing from one to another.

### 5/5 — Great Workout

*2020-05-15, version 1.0.1*

This is a small device paired with a great app to deliver an amazing workout. It lets you target the areas you want to workout, or choose a fully guided workout. It’s a lot of fun as you watch the app react to the amount of pressure you are placing on the device and trying to follow the guide lines. I was impressed after just using it the first time the impact it had on my muscle. You feel like you left the gym. You can literally take this device anywhere and workout. Look forward to future updates!

### 5/5 — More Daily workouts please.

*2020-05-07, version 1.0.1*

App has really improved UX from Classic version, requires less interaction with phone and adds quick strength test to each exercise. I just wish a fresh daily workout would be shown after completing one to encourage doing multiple.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2020-05-01, version 1.0.1*

Love this app for quick workouts any time.

Exercises are easy and effective.

### 5/5 — Pleasantly surprised

*2020-05-01, version 1.0.1*

I was skeptical that something so small could actually make me feel the burn. Boy was I wrong! This little thing goes everywhere with me and l love the ability to sneak in a few mins of exercise when I have downtime

### 5/5 — Love at first sight

*2020-04-28, version 1.0.1*

I started working from home 3 weeks ago, and I bought it to solve the lack of exercise. In addition to completing a workout in about 5 minutes, there is also a workout that you can sit down, so you can do muscle training quickly in the gap time. The UI of the application is also easy to understand. You can also link with iPhone health care. Previously, I’ve previously used Nike's NTC, but this Activ5 is actually works.

### 5/5 — New app!

*2020-04-20, version 1.0.0*

I stopped using my activ5 a while back. Until I saw that there was a new app. I’m back! Glad to see updates coming in. Keep up the good work!

### 5/5 — Fun and Effective

*2020-04-16, version 1.0.0*

This has been a lifesaver, especially since it doesn’t look like gyms will be open any time soon! I would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay on top of their training during quarantine and beyond.
