For me, it seems to be some of the best I've used. I particularly like that it will process large blocks of speech, rather than halting in the middle when I pause to gather my thoughts. But, saving text is precarious. I've accidentally deleted long passages by closing the application or just the document. I must be very diligent about saving blocks of text promptly. It's like the olden days of hitting CMD-S every few sentences when writing in Word so that a crash wouldn't wipe out much work. And, "yes, I walked five miles to school uphill both ways... in the snow. So you kids better stay off my lawn!" Yeah, the aspects of this application for saving text do make me feel like the grumpy old man I've become. And, even though this application is updated frequently, this significant downside has not been addressed. The core speech recognition function is great. ### 2/5 — I loved it until it let me down horribly *2018-10-31, version 1.6.7* Why the functionality on this app is fantastic, it’s tendency to loose connections and lose large patches of text me that it is simply not worth using it until they find a way to properly buffer or stop you from recording if the text is not going to be recorded. ### 2/5 — Low functioning app *2018-06-28, version 1.6.6* I’ve been very disappointed with this app. I used Dragon for a long time and I loved it in every way. It never failed to understood my speech, get the spelling, punctuation and grammar correct. This app has been very disappointing. This app offers very little considering the time it takes to correct the errors. I could’ve manually typed the piece. I’ve found it to be undependable and too much effort to edit all the errors. ### 2/5 — Mixed emotions *2018-05-30, version 1.6.6* I love the app and it’s functionality. I like speaking and seeing what I said on screen. Then being able to edit any mistakes or mis-interpreted words, then being able to continue. However, the app easily loses connection then freezes up and loses everything you have written. I learned this the hard way losing my daughter’s whole wedding speech that I had written. It was a masterpiece if I do say so. I never had a bigger kick in the gut then when the app froze and I lost everything. Fortunately, I had most of it in my heart and I winged it. I was told it was beautiful. But I still feel the one I wrote was better. I was bitterly disappointed. There needs to be a save feature as you write so you don’t lose everything if you are accidentally get disconnected. It could be an awesome product if this could be done. ### 4/5 — Only one thing is wrong *2018-05-20, version 1.6.6* Only problem was that I was 5 minutes in to a text and the phone fell asleep and deleted my 5 minutes of rambling. ### 2/5 — Extremely useful but freezes and crashes *2018-05-16, version 1.6.6* The app is extremely useful as my job is busy and fast paced. The more you use the app the another it becomes as in terms of dictation and voice recognition. However, 1/4 times of its use the app freezes then crashes deleting what was already dictated. I’m using a iPhone 7plus. Hope this issue gets resolved as it has the potential to be a 5 Star application. ### 3/5 — Sometimes it works… *2018-03-06, version 1.6.6* I paid $10 for this app and I have gotten about five dollars or somewhat less worth of value. When it works, it does a reasonably good job of translating my voice, about 90 to 95% accuracy. But three times in the past week I have dictated A fairly long note and at the end received a message “ Error in cloud transmission“ and the whole message was lost. I see that Nuance company is a contributor and my experience with them has been abysmal. Think PaperPort and Dragon Dictate. Both of these programs had much promise and started out well but the customer service was so poor and the lack of progress in the company Was so invisible that I had given up on both. Am I going to throw away my $10? Probably. ### 2/5 — Lost notes because of error messages *2018-01-27, version 1.6.6* Works well most of the time, but I have lost several important notes after an error message appears and nothing is saved or able to be transcribed. This has been extremely frustrating. Fingers crossed for an update, because this technology is essential for my work. Please update!!!!!! ### 2/5 — Works well, when it works *2017-12-04, version 1.6.6* It does fine translating a couple of sentences, but I need something that’s going to allow me to dictate as I drive. The app seems to lose everything it’s recorded every time I change cellular towers — about every 5 minutes on the freeway. The translation is pretty good, but the app is useless to me. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Lying sacks of sh** *2020-08-01, version 1.7.2* Icelandic my a**! Y’all are liars. In the description list it says Icelandic, but once paying for this and looking, it was not an option. I’m looking to be able to voice to text Icelandic, and you just took my money for nothing. There are free apps that do better. Disappointment. ### 1/5 — I want my money back *2019-11-14, version 1.7.2* Had high hopes for this app but was disappointed as the voice to text failed multiple times. Paid the $8.99 to transcribe and then submit weekly reports without having to write it out. Attempt after attempt I was received “null” errors and finally gave up. There’s an app on my phone called voice recorder that said it something similar to what I was looking for if I upgraded (with a free trail period) which I did and that worked perfectly. So I’m out the money for Activate Voice but at least I solved my new. Buyer beware of this app! ### 1/5 — Stopped working correctly no response from developer *2019-09-30, version 1.7.2* I started using the free version, liked it quite a bit went to the paid version and it was working fine for many months and then all of a sudden stopped taking transcriptions longer than one minute. It just give me an error. I contacted the developer twice via their email app and still not have heard back after several weeks. frustrated that is not working correctly and no one will respond to my request for help. ### 1/5 — Needs Update for new IOS. *2019-09-18, version 1.7.2* This is the best voice to text app ever. I gave it one star because it seems to need an update in order to work with the new iPhone IOS. It simply won’t record and reports problems with the cloud. I’ve used it for years and love the app, so its very discouraging that it stopped working. I’ve become dependent on it to do all my writing work. ### 1/5 — Please update this app. *2019-09-18, version 1.7.2* I’ve used this app for 2 years now. It came it handy for writing blogs and important stuff. Now I’m mad that this app stopped working for like the past two weeks now. But who ever runs this app. Do use a favor and please just update it. Honestly I’m tried seeing the “Cloud transactions reported an error” popping up on my screen. Plus you deserve one star for not updating this app and for paying attention to what your users are trying to tell you online. ### 1/5 — Worked great for a few days *2019-09-15, version 1.7.2* I though this was just what I needed to be able to talk to my mom, who can no longer hear without having to type things. Worked great for a few days and she loved it. It was more like having a conversation. Now I continue to get a cloud error message! I’ll be looking for a different app. ### 1/5 — Poor *2018-07-11, version 1.6.6* Downloaded this app in hopes of using it for work. The first time I used it and it worked great. The second time I used it- it would continue “recording” and the when I clicked done it said that it hadn’t finished recording at all. Instead of letting me know beforehand that it wasn’t receiving it at all. It simply crashed each time. Now I use notes app from Apple to dictate what I need for work. I tried to get a refund from Apple and they didn’t allow it. Lame. Don’t buy this app- waste of $9.99. ### 1/5 — Functionality - poor; speech recognition - poor *2018-01-05, version 1.6.6* Product was purchased due to experience with nuance dictation in the past. This app is not very good at all. Tough to use. Can’t see at the transcription. You’re better off using the native speech recognition app that is on your keyboard from Apple. ### 1/5 — Bill is not happy *2017-11-17, version 1.6.6* Very crude and basic. I can't believe they charged even 3 dollars for it. It works ok for a while but then it freezes up and you loose everything. Grrrrr. When you send your text, that's all you send. You lose all spacing, titles, paragraphs etc. like I said very crude and basic and not useful at all to me. ### 1/5 — Wasted 2.99 *2017-10-09, version 1.6.6* This app is no better than the voice to text function already included with the iPhone. In fact at least the iPhone lets me see the text that is being transcribed as I’m speaking. This doesn’t even show that. It’s so much better than Siri. I wish there was a way to integrate this in the apps and replace Siri on my phone with this app. Rather than copy and paste ### 5/5 — So much more accurate than iPhone’s basic. *2019-09-12, version 1.7.2* This is my go to app for dictation. You can’t see the text building while you’re dictating, so it’s a leap of faith to keep talking. I’d prefer to see the text but... such is life. ### 5/5 — Perfect! *2019-06-28, version 1.7.1* Best voice to text app available that I have found it and I have gone through pretty much all of them. This actually picks up everything clearly and dictates it correctly. This app unlike others rarely if it all messes up words or phrases unlike others where I have to constantly go back and correct them which defeats the purpose of voice to text (and it's frustrating to fix half of everything that you’ve dictated). It's nice to that it works with commands for dictating text that That are for dictating text on Mac but also work for iOS. Some of the commands I'm still figuring out and they might be because of enhanced dictation but overall they work. With iPhone 8 I don't have an option for enhanced dictation but on X there might be an option for enhanced dictation. Don't waste your money on any of the other dictation apps. They're completely useless and will frustrate you to no end. I have wasted way more money than I would care to admit on those and this has been best app that I have found and I always come back to it. ### 5/5 — Not for me *2019-05-17, version 1.7.0* If u constantly want your train of thought interrupted every 3 seconds or so to restart this thing.... go for it! If u are serious about recording your thoughts to ward off writers block later get a DIFFERENT APP! I have to find the on I had before that I could talk and actually have it convert to a written document. 3rd grade level ### 5/5 — Indispensable *2018-06-25, version 1.6.6* As my blog activity grows and I generate more and more posts in order to stay up to date, I find that this app is absolutely indispensable. My iMac is an older one (2014) so the equivalent app won’t work properly on it anymore. This was a happy find, seeing that it works almost perfectly on my iPhone 8 Plus. The type of job I have requires me to do very heavy documentation and to be very detailed in my documentation therefore this app is awesome I highly recommend it.
