### 2/5 — Never loads

*2025-09-25, version 2.0.10*

Decent app when it loads but more often then not, get to the Y ready for workout and it won’t load. Kinda useless when it doesn’t work regularly.

### 2/5 — Never loads

*2025-08-03, version 2.0.7*

Decent app when it loads but more often then not, get to the Y ready for workout and it won’t load. Kinda useless when it doesn’t work regularly.

### 2/5 — Amazing Idea, HORRIBLE implementation

*2025-06-19, version 2.0.6*

I went to the Y to get in shape. I personally hate working out part of because I never know what to do. This app gives me step by step instructions so I don’t have to think about my routine, I just open it up and go.

That said, the app is buggy as heck. It crashes constantly, logs you out mid workout, create workouts where every exercise is duplicated, losing your workout which requires you to force close the app, etc.

If you’re going to use the YMCA for your workout, this can help you get started, but you may grow frustrated the longer you use it as it seems like it was developed by someone with no professional experience, likely made for fun by the head of ITs brother in law. ChatGPT could build a better app than this.

### 1/5 — Update is terrible

*2025-05-05, version 2.0.4*

Old version although crashed once in a while, actually worked. New version does not. You cannot add exercises or additional sets to generated workouts.

### 1/5 — Loses workout

*2025-05-01, version 2.0.4*

Really glitchy. After new update I’ll record my workout exercises then finish the floor ones at home. When I get home and open the app I have to log on and now have lost all my entries. Every time you close the app you now have to log in. This means you have to go to the website and re-enter all your information, if you can remember.

I’m sure the gyms pay a good price for this app, but I’m not sure I’ll continue to use it. Maybe find a separate app to log.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work

*2025-04-14, version 1.1.41*

I started using this app because the Y suggests it for people starting their workout journey once you have your first meeting with a personal trainer.

The app has never submitted a workout regardless of how many times I’ve tried and no one seems to know what the problem is. The app showed 3/24 (my start date) and “day 1” since the day it was set up.

I figured 128 people couldn’t be making these problems up when I saw the rating but figured I’d try anyway…and it doesn’t work!

### 2/5 — So glitchy

*2025-01-23, version 1.1.41*

Been using this app for years. Chronically unreliable. Right now the app is locked up and will not create the next workout or accept the current workout. I have tried logging out and logging back in, restarting my phone and even uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Totally dead in the water.

### 2/5 — Great in theory…

*2024-09-05, version 1.1.41*

… but in execution, not so much. The interface of this app is not user friendly at all.
Every time you try to watch a gif-like-video on how to do a specific exercise, whatever you are listening to will completely close out. So you have to open your audio app and start your music/podcast/audiobook back up from a different app, as opposed to it not stopping audio at all or even just pausing audio.

Loading and saving workouts is glitchy. I’ve had to submit workouts I’ve done the day before again the next day because it just doesn’t save sometimes for some reason.

There is no syncing to Apple Watch or Apple Health to track things like heart rate, calories burned, etc. It feels very primitive, for lack of a better word.

Not to mention the interface is ugly. Sorry! But it’s true. Not sleek at all, and quite clunky visually and loading-wise.

I really hope this app gets some TLC- because I LOVE the idea. I just don’t love this app *yet* 🤞

### 1/5 — Broken app

*2024-02-14, version 1.1.41*

The app crashed every time your finished n submit it
You cannot go back and look at your work out
Doesn’t go low enough for beginners and older folks to start
Not happy with the app

### 1/5 — Worst app ever

*2024-02-10, version 1.1.41*

This is the most user-unfriendly app ever. It’s supposed to help with machines at the Y, but you can’t easily setup routines on a specific machine. Way quicker to just use paper and pencil. The coders who wrote the app have likely never been to a gym.

### 2/5 — Not available in Apple Watch?

*2023-09-30, version 1.1.41*

Doesn't your app state "your favorite wearable device? But not Apple Watch

### 1/5 — Needs to be fixed and updated

*2023-09-18, version 1.1.41*

It won't submit or generate a new workout. I rely on this at my gym. Please fix!!

### 1/5 — Needs a SERIOUS HISTORY overhaul

*2023-08-07, version 1.1.41*

This app could be so great if you fixed the constant issues. I constantly get logged out, kicked off, or my account goes inactive. The videos need updated. The animations are so old and don’t accurately show what to do. This app has so much potential. I also feel like the “prediction” for weight is also off. I always just get “best” for amount of reps and would like an actual number sometimes. Will switch to a better app like fitbod soon.

### 3/5 — Time to step up

*2023-04-10, version 1.1.41*

As a frequent user of this gym app, I must say that it feels quite outdated. In order to keep up with the current trends and offer a better user experience, this app needs to incorporate some of the latest and greatest features available, such as integration with the Health app and the ability to track heart rate. Many other fitness apps already offer these features, and it can be frustrating to manually input data from this app into other platforms like Fitbod. It's time for this app to invest in upgrading its technology to match the expectations of today's users.

### 2/5 — Great in Theory, Awful in Execution

*2023-01-30, version 1.1.41*

Been using this app for 6 months. Absolutely love the functionality. It works very well at providing an interesting list of exercises each day for my workout. But...
There are so many things wrong with this app it is almost unusable. Very frustrating:
Consistently quits and often difficult to get it to relaunch
If you want to add a set, it causes an error--every time. There is a clunky work-around I've discovered, but it is frustrating.
The interface to edit the type of exercise of equipment is very cumbersome. There is no easy search feature.
I laughed when I saw people at the gym printing out there workout and keeping track on paper, now I know why!

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2023-01-20, version 1.1.41*

I just had the app set up for me at my local YMCA. I was anticipating a custom exercise program that accommodated my limitations : age (73), arthritis and joint replacement, and the fact that I can no longer get up from the floor. Instead I got a one size fits all list of routines that featured lots of on the floor exercises and bench exercises that I can’t possibly do. I will have to see, and pay for, a personal trainer.

### 1/5 — Food Journal

*2021-08-29, version 1.1.40*

Accidentally hit food journal and there was no way to get out of it. Had to delete app and reinstall it. You have a problem there. And I shouldn’t have to rate this review to send it!!!!

### 1/5 — Needs work

*2021-01-07, version 1.1.36*

For an app that’s been around as long as it has, it’s crazy buggy. I’ve had the same workout three days in a row. They don’t respond to social media, and there’s been no updates in two years. Disappointing as it’s set to work with my gym.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unstable

*2026-05-16, version 2.0.15*

Does not save properly and changes seem rare and arbitrary

### 1/5 — Very Glitchy

*2026-02-06, version 2.0.15*

The program is great the application struggles to connect to the servers. It will often not submit and reset all of your progress. Does not allow you to change the weight in the application.

### 1/5 — Totally unreliable

*2025-12-15, version 2.0.14*

How is this app still so bad? Almost every time I use it, it either cannot connect to the server, or even worse crashes when I try to submit my workout. It’s gotten to the point where I have to take screen shots of each page of my workout so I can submit when the app decides to start working again. This doesn’t seem like a difficult product to maintain. So what is going on???

### 1/5 — Create account?

*2025-12-10, version 2.0.14*

I would like to use this app, but there is no way to get in touch with Support to create an account.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2025-10-03, version 2.0.10*

In theory this app is pretty great and that hit balance is your workouts to hit all muscle groups, to use different methods to work the same muscle groups etc. And it increases the workload very gradually.

HOWEVER, the app itself is always rife with bugs. Either at duplicates all your workouts, or doesn’t let you submit them, and rather just resets all the workout data that you’re already entered… Or it won’t let you change the weight for the exercise exercises, even though it offers a pulldown menu to do exactly that… Every time you do it it’s just revert back to what it wants. A lot of just app coding errors like that. Wish it could be better.

Also you are not allowed to give feedback directly to active trax, you have to do it through your gym, and they aren’t always cooperative or interested.

### 1/5 — Fix it!

*2025-09-06, version 2.0.10*

Latest update shows the developer did not test it before posting it for use. Obviously they don’t use it themselves.

### 1/5 — Buns

*2025-08-19, version 2.0.9*

Nothing works

### 1/5 — Horrible App!

*2025-07-30, version 2.0.7*

This app is horrible! Half the time it logged you out and you lose everything that you input. The other half the time when you try to input it manually, it tells you that you didn’t even put a number in your rep section and you can’t submit until it’s done. Both the web version and the app are horrible! Don’t use this app. Do yourself a favor and find something else and be willing to pay for it because this will not help you track properly!

### 1/5 — Latest version regressed

*2025-06-28, version 2.0.6*

Never has been a great app, but latest version is worst. Hangs up much more frequently, requiring me to turn phone off and back on. Almost always refuses to submit workout after Incomplete one. Have to go on web browser to go to Activtrax site and manually fill in workout sheet.

### 1/5 — Mike

*2025-05-12, version 2.0.4*

I updated this week and this version is terrible. It will not add additional exercises and it will not submit the workout when it is completed.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love it

*2025-06-30, version 2.0.6*

This is FREE. It works
As described. My YMCA showed me this app.
Now I can go to the gym and follow these suggested workout. It has been a huge help. I don’t have to figure out which machine and weight to use it tells me. Come on anyone know of any other app that tells you which numbered machine to go to and what weight to select.
If not then this is definitely 5 stars.
Did I mention it’s free. Thanks.

### 5/5 — Update needed

*2020-02-14, version 1.1.36*

A really good app but the video format need to be updated, Some time I don’t get what the work out is so I use to click the video but now I can’t. *******Please fix the video******

### 5/5 — Don't may for personal trainers ever again!

*2019-05-22, version 1.1.36*

This is the absolute best app! Spits out different workouts each time. Customizable. It's like having a personal trainer write you a new workout each time but it's FREE with YMCA membership. Videos and directions for each exercise. This program and app is life! It's been a God send.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2017-09-13, version 1.0.127*

This app is great for people who don't know what they need to do at the gym to get a complete workout. Also a great place to record your workout.

### 4/5 — App does not let you change workouts

*2019-10-24, version 1.1.36*

I was contacted by the owner and he tells me they are working on the sync issues with Apple devices. Hopefully we will see something soon!

### 4/5 — Can timer be added?

*2019-01-24, version 1.1.36*

Would love to see the timer (where the rest time is given) in there.

### 4/5 — Question

*2018-08-23, version 1.1.36*

I really benefited from this app when I worked out at the Abilene Tx YMCA.
I’m at a different gym now and wanting to use it there. Is this still a working app??

### 4/5 — Really useful

*2018-05-08*

I went to the Y to get in shape. I personally hate working out part of because I never know what to do. This app gives me step by step instructions so I don’t have to think about my routine, I just open it up and go.

I’m now on day 41 and I can really see the changes, and people comment about how I look all the time.

I would recommend this app to someone that isn’t super hardcore and wants most of the upsides that a personal trainer provides but with nearly no cost.

### 4/5 — Great for newbies!

*2017-08-22, version 1.0.127*

I'm new to weight training but this app is making it super easy for me to get my workouts done. My only concern is that sometimes the equipment numbers don't match up with what is on the app but that is likely a gym issue, not necessarily with the app. I've only had this happen once at my regular gym but last weekend I went to a different YMCA and even after updating the location, all of the equipment numbers were off.

### 3/5 — Quirky

*2026-01-13, version 2.0.14*

I use it but when I decide to change the weight, it doesn’t let me. So frustrating. Also, the date is wrong.
